Stan, thank you for being one of very few artists who keep stressing on getting the "value" right. I knew that "value" was important, but I didn't realize how important it was. You really drilled home how much "value" is so much more important than colour. It was magic to see how you can use any colour as long as the "value" is correct.
I learned a lot from this lesson!

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for these lessons. For 6 months I have been struggling with watercolors. I always thought I was good at portraiture but recently have been so disappointed and feel as though I"ve lost my talent. But your first video, on how much water should be in the brush, showed me the major mistake I've been making. Not one other video has mentioned this. And each subsequent lesson has taught me something I didn't understand.
So Thank You from the bottom of my heart. You are the art teacher I have been waiting for.

Using a round brush instead of the flat brush would work just as well. Using a small brush and going very slow, would work great. If you work slow with a small brush your painting would simply be much more realistic.

Dear Stan, I have been working, and I do mean working as sometimes it's very slow, on my watercolor portrait skills for quite sometime. I've watched numerous videos, but something you did in this video has unblocked a block in my painting, and for that I thank you. I had forgotten to pay attention to this all important concept of value that you made so abundantly clear in your tutorial. I will take what you have shown and try to use it. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this, you are a great teacher.

I hope you continue YT watercolour lessons. I recently discovered your channel and just with your two videos I've seen I've already learned so much.

This has been the clearest and best explanation in watercolor painting that I have seen yet. You simplified things for me.

Fantastic video, really takes a lot the pressure off when approaching a painting this way, definitely going to try this method!!

Love portraits in watercolor. I was always hung up on skin color. This is a wonderful lesson. Thank you so much.
