Fred does a SUPER job releasing these gems! Top quality, beautifully curated. Gorgeous and hugely important in preserving the jazz heritage.
Thanks for the vid, I missed a couple of these titles. Great label putting out great music. It would be cool to see just you 3 guys do an overview video for the upcoming RSD 2024 Jazz releases. Cheers!
More to come on that front soon. - Chris
Hello Mike, Chris and Felipe, Thanks so much for your video, i really appreciate!!!! I'm back after my health problems. I'm working on new projects🙂
Thanks Fred! We are so glad to hear you have recovered and are back at it! - Chris
Thanks guys, great to hear the background. I stumbled across Sam Records with one of my favourite jazz musicians , Chet Baker. I have Volume 1 and 2. They sound incredible. You have inspired me to seek out other artists on this label.
Our pleasure! Enjoy the journey. - Chris
Great video, the three of you 👍 - well done!
It's very hard not to like - even love - any of the Sam releases (as your selections also show).
The "Jazz sur Seine" that Chris shows is also VERY good and accessible - a superb starting point for somebody that is new to jazz.
Thanks for linking to my interview w. Fred and the shout out - most appreciated ❣
See you soon in a stream near you 😉(but off for a vacation the next Friday).
Sam Records, One of the very very few that gets it right from beginning to end. No nonsense just pure quality. Records worth their value.
Great catalogue of music, top level reissues and Fred is the man! Enjoyed this one, Gents!
Great conversation about such an amazing label. I really like all the small details, Fred sends a message when he ships for example. I think the same about the Heath Bros, such a great release but the Sahib got way more attention. But damn it, you’ve cost me money again 😂.
Another great topic Sam Records you three broke down the label to the fullest I’m definitely going to grab some of the titles you featured especially the Clark Terry.
Yeah I want that Clark Terrry now too! - Chris
Great one. I think for me it’s impossible to pick 5. I love them all.
expected, lol! F
Great topic , love you guys , I have 3 releases from Sam , but all the Chet Baker lps for me
Afternoon in Paris was my first. I didn’t know anything about it, but it looked so damn cool I had to get it. I’ve been hooked ever since.
The Heath Brothers Paris 76 Side B track is the best previously unreleased live Jazz track I have ever heard. Simply a great audio and audiophile experience. Highly recommended.
Ron Jefferson played/recorded tons with Les McCan. Also he was the bassist with Charlie Rouse's and Julius Watkins' fabulous Les Jazz Mode albums.
Thanks for the information. Love Les McCann's stuff. I will check out the Les Jazz Modes. - Chris
Yeah Les jazz Modes.. Aside from the fabulous solos it has some cool futuristic vocals ..sort of Bop meets the Jetsons...@@JazzBums
Ron Jefferson is my favorite Sam records release.
Yes - that is a really great record 😊
Art Blakey live with the jazz messengers is so good as well.
Going to visit Sam records when i go to Paris in June 😀
See you soon in June 🙂
@@samrecords8628 we will visit the shop !
@@samrecords8628 june 21st or 22nd 🤩
Thomas (from SAM records), question for you: will you truly strictly limit the Sahib LP press to 3000 copies, as indicated on your website, or is it a FOMO trick (which I can understand: others do it all the time)? Congratulations on the great work you do releasing these archives!
Sam has always been very transparent, I don't see any reason for that to happen. Thanks for watching! F
Sorry for my late reply but i was out of business due to heath trouble.....i'm back now!!!! Good question, i sign agreement for 3000 copies only. So, this is a strickly limited edition. I plan to make a 45RPM edition of this in 2025 🙂Thanks for your compliments on my work!!!
What is the music used for the intro of this video?
🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
Wonderful conversation, guys. Bottom line - if it’s released on Sam Records, get a copy. Great selection from each of the bums.
This is pretty much our strategy lol - Chris
Nathan Davis is €60, so not that expensive. Great choices.
Interesting. Are these digital or aaa? Do they explicitly call out the source?
Not sure in a broad context, but the Sahib Shihab was cut from a file that was made directly from the master tape. I think that has possibly happened on others as well, but not sure. Either way they sound amazing. - Chris
There has been a digital step/restoration on all the Sam releases made by the same Parisian sound engineer - Fred mentioned this in my interview with him (JAN 2024). Video on my channel - please see the link in the description.
[To original commenter] I hope for your sake you’re not one of those people who automatically rule out records that are mastered from digital. There’s a lot of great stuff out there like Sam Records that puts a lot of care into the process and is very much worth your time and money even if digital files are used for mastering.
@@xentakis I don't know if your comment was meant for me 🙂 - but as one can see in my Sam Records-related videos, I appreciate both the sound, music and visual site of all of Fred's releases. So digital recording/restauration done properly is perfectly OK with me 👍
@@Claus-CaptainPhoenixCorner I meant that for the original commenter not for you (and I really enjoyed your video with Fred!). Digital vs. “AAA” is a natural question, but I think some people tend to fixate too much on this one question.
