I had lower back spasm earlier this Jan. Called an ambulance. What this gentleman is saying helps. Except this is my first time. Panic. Used a walking stick. Every morning 4.30am, I crawled (faster than using walking stick) to my window grill. Held on to my dear life and did half squats. 1 month improved. By Mar, I'm back. Never appreciate mobility until now. Thank you God for taking away my mobility so that I appreciate it more.

Hi, I experienced lower back spasms beginning of this month!! I panicked, never had spasms, felt like something was on the verge of popping in my lower back!!! I would exert so much energy in trying to control the spasms that all my energy would sap away and the pain was excruciating! I thought I was going to die. Crawling to the window ledge yup that was me too! I used my head board of my bed a lot too. I'm still not 100% I hope you've made a full recovery.

Been having spasms for a month but lost health insurance when I became unemployed and MRI is like $12,000. Can’t get out of bed, can’t sleep in bed. Too sick to work and too poor to get better. Gotta love the American healthcare system.

I was in the same boat. I live in the US. I ended up begging the hospital for a xray. My xray showed enough for them to push my doctor to send me to a specialist. I did 2-3 months of physical therapy. Then they sent me for an mri and emg. I got health insurance through the state with workers with disabilities, you still pay for it but cheaper than most insurance. I got fmla to protect me at work. Prayers to you! I hope this helps.

    Active muscle spasm?
    DON'T:
-Stretch that area for more than 10 seconds at a time
    -Apply heat
-Go lie on the couch or in bed for hours at a time
    -Let yourself get dehydrated
-Dig into the affected muscle with a tennis ball, fingers, etc.
    DO:
    -Ice the area
-Engage the big muscles that will help offload the work from the muscle in spasm. (For a low-back spasm, doing some squats can really help get those lower glutes firing, which should help.)
-Use small, rhythmic motions for 20 seconds at a time to help the muscle spasm calm down. Stop if you feel the muscle in pain get a lot tighter. (Example: lie on back and rock knees from side to side gently.)
-Drink lots of water; electrolyte drinks can help too
-Use magnesium oil and arnica/comfrey on the affected muscle.
Great tips in this video! I learned some new things to try. Thank you. :)

I've had this exact injury multiple times. Historically, I needed 2-3 weeks to heal up, and this was with heat therapy and lots of stretching. I had no idea the stretching and heat were actually bad for my condition (it feels good in the short run so it's counterintuitive as Leon explains). I stumbled upon this video and so glad I did. I healed up in just one week this time following Leon's advice. Thanks for posting this video!

Then when a new doctor with 18 years orthopedic experience had him get moving and start doing exercises after the first day or so, my husband started bouncing back quicker. He went back to work (light duty of course) after 2 days this time. You just have to know your body.

Muscle relaxers helped, and a bit of oxicodone, but now I am in my 11th day, and the pain and spasms upon arising remains for as long as noon. No matter the pain med or not. My husband’s doctor said NO don’t just sit around all day. Every 30-60 minutes you should move around. Worst thing to do is sit in one position and have your back get locked up. And this came from a doc with 18 years orthopedic experience.

  • @kevincastillo868

I get the worst Leg spasm. I feel like my toes are on the wrong sides. My muscle flips upside down. Worst pain. I can feel my back spasm will come anytime. Now. 😅 My best advice that has helped me recover is: 1. Don't move stay still. Wherever you are at get to a place where you won't move. 2. Start to breath in slowly and breath out slowly. And keep repeating. Big breaths slow in and slow out. Once you start to feel better start massaging. If possible take a cold shower. And continue to breath in and out. Hope it helps . It helps me alot.

Lifted a 24 pack of bottled water up and out of the back of my truck. Now excruciating lower back muscle spasms. Can’t even walk without a cane in each hand. I am a senior citizen, down for the count and looking for help! I can live with lower back pain but these spasms are incapacitating. I’ll start using ice. Ibuprofen helps a little.

I'm hoping I can make it another 20 years and gain that senior citizenship. These past 20+ yrs dealing with lower back pain regularly has been rough and I can relate all too well to the 24 pack of water. Personally I've noticed arm extension alone can throw my back out. From lifting the 24 pack to doing something as simple as throwing a light item in the grocery cart and everything in between and beyond has done it over the years. Hopefully you healed up quick & don't need the assistance of the cane anymore. I don't wish back pain upon anyone

That's odd for heat and cold therapy. I'm allergic to the cold I have cold urticaria so I can't put anything cold on my skin. So I use heat. I have herniated disk l5 s1 it's getting better but as I'm healing now I'm getting back spasms off and on or muscle cramp it lasts for a min then goes away and get it in my calf or hamstring. I keep doing exercises off and on and walking around until a spasm starts. I have been using a heating pad since the herniated disk started its been almost a week and haven't been in as much pain. It's just the spasms now which is weird. I had abetter sleep last night first time in a week. I heard a doctor say listen to your body you are the doctor you know what hurts and what doesn't you know what helps and what doesn't keep doing that keep working around the things that help so yiu can feel better. But am listening to everything what you are saying. Just not sure about the cold vs hot therapy.
Also been taking backaid max from Walmart for 4$ it's been helping also.

I don't know what I did. I did a little bit of core work the day before. using the ab roller thing with the wheel which i've used many times before. did only 2 sets of ten pullups and about 30-40 air squats. went to bed slept fine and woke up fine. was walking around for almost 35-40 mins. got some water ate some fruit and had started making some waffles. sat down for literally 1-2 mins while the waffle iron was heating up. got up and proceeded to walk over the kitchen counter then suddenly felt a twinge in my mid back on the left side. had an issues on the right side for almost 12 years in the exact same spot which also suddenly developed and never went away. on and off since it started. this one I can't tell if its a pinched nerve or pulled muscle. It just proceeded to hurt more and more as the day went on and became harder for me to move. woke up this morning and it's worse than yesterday. this is crazy. wasn't lifting anything heavy. wasn't doing any twisting exercises. just sat down and then got up a cpl mins later, something I do every single day in that same chair and boom it just hit. everything on my left side from that spot upward into my arms seem to be affected. even hard to bend my left arm now. feels tight around the elbow. lats and traps and deltoid on that side all feel tight now.

The pain has went down a lot since last week, right now, it’s in the shoulder and my teeth of my fingers are numb like. When it first started, this was one of the worst pain I’ve ever had. Ben to the hospital three times and had to get a tordal shot each time. As he said in this video, I have been resting a lot. Also, getting massages and using heat pads.

Thank you for this!!!! I pushed a broken floor scrubber that felt like I was pushing 500 lbs (he moving motor wasn't working), and I totally pulled my rifht rhomboid. I have scoliosis, so that muscle is already naturally tight. But, I nearly collapsed in water (I was cleaning it up in the zamboni room with the machine). Then it just kept on tightening and twitching. My girlfriend ran to me from the front desk (saw me nearly collapse on the camera), and helped. Me and my job can't afford to not have me there. So, I'm taking today off, then taking my happy ass to work 10 hours tomorrow.

While we cannot diagnose you online, Burning sensation or tingling can be "nerve compression". If it travels down, then it could be nerve compression. You'd want to get a thorough evaluation.

Good information. A few weeks ago I had an aching lower back gradually getting worse until one morning I just reached down to my left and turned a bit and bang, it went. My entire lower back exploded in pain and went into huge spasms on and off for a time, you could feel when they were coming back and the pain was ridiculous. Trouble was I was flat on my back on the carpet, upstairs, away from any phone and unable to move. Three hours later I managed to somehow get help. I literally couldn't move for 3 days and it took nearly a week before I managed to start shuffling around on my knees. Two weeks and I could start getting around slowly with a stick. Now I'm in week 3 and there's still movements like bending forward that are still not possible. Hopefully time will heal.

Every time in 4-8 weeks after I started physiotherapy sessions, I would have some kind of injuries like biceps / triceps tear, supraspinatus tear and this time after 4 weeks of cardiac rehab, I suddenly got a lower back acute spasm. While many other causes are usually mentioned, the specific cause due to physiotherapy has never been mentioned. When I give prior warnings to the therapists they keep their mouth shut as usual and as expected. Beware of this cause, guys.
