In this video I put on the 4 inch drop pitman arm. I didn't explain why I added it to the kit and what my plans were. If you buy this kit and don't plain on changing the trackbar angle then you DO NOT need it. It will throw your steering/suspension geometry off. Sorry I didn't make this clear. Video coming soon on when and when not to add a drop pitman arm and what its effects.
I installed this kit a couple years ago on my '02 Overland, along with a set of 2" pucks for a total of 6 inches. I had to trim the front bumper to make it work with 33s.
Had my 99 WJ since 2005..... it's still bone stock and I've wanted to do this for the last 10 years. IRO kit seems a bit pricey for just about the same stuff as this RC kit. Nice ride sir.
Thank you! Yes all of the other options are expensive in comparison. I have had this kit for a year and have had no problems with it. The track bar and sway bar links are a bit loud but most hiem joints are. Also I have had zero issue with the RC long arm joints (I grease them every other oil change or at least check them). When the do go bad I believe IRO or one of the other kit company makes replacement joints for the RC kit as long as you keep it at 4 inches. Honestly at that point I might just make my own arms and use the RC brackets to mount them.
i was one of the lucky guys who got one of the newest upgraded 4" long arm kits from my great guys at rough country and one of the greatest compliments I've ever received was the day after installing it went in for a true FOUR WHEEL ALIMENT every shop i called was 300-400 bucks so ok took it in dropped it off three hours later i get a call saying come get it so i go back thinking they couldn't do it well i walk in ask what i owe and im told $65.00 i asked so you guys couldn't do it the owner comes out and say OO no we got and. MY GOSH WE HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN A COMPLETE LONG ARM LIFT OR ANY LIFT THAT HAS SO MUCH ADJUSTMENT once we fig out all the adjustments it was the easiest fastest four-wheel aliment we've ever had.....
I think this kit is GREAT for the price. It rides great in my opnion better than stock. Yes there is a ton of adjustment and its easy to change anything if needed. Glad to hear that the shop was able to hook you up with the alignment. Seems to be getting harder to find a good alignment shop these days.
Yes I know I said that 99% of the time Death wobble is caused by the track bar. I was exaggerating. It's the most common of what I see at Xtreme. Control arm busing and ball joints would be the runner up.
There is a bolt in there. It is a counter sunk bolt with a spot to tighten it with an allen or torx key/socket. I can see how it could look like that. Thanks for the question. I will keep that in mind in for future videos and get better angle of things like that.
Mine is a 4.0 slec trac. but it will work on all of the WJs (99-04) Jeep Grand Cherokees. The only reason why they say it won't is because of the front drive shaft. You need to go from the cv style to the double cardan driveshaft (u joint drive shaft). With that being said I would go check out my other videos over the RC joints. I would 100% recommend upgrading them to the Johnny Joints before you install this kit. I have it on my jeep and after I eliminated the terrible RC joints I have had zero issues with the kit. TBH it is a great budget kit. Thanks for the comment and watching!
@@XtremeTruckAuto They also say it won't work on the V8 models but a buddy of mine was saying that's probably all cuz of liability concerns. The previous owner already changed mine to u-joint style front drive shaft. I decided to go with the Iron Rock 4-in Long arm kit anyways.
Did you ever do an alignment video? Great video for the lift install. I used this as a reference whilst installing, moreso than the actual instructions! Hello from England.
I'm glad the video was helpful!!!! I did not do an alignment video. I might be able to work something out. There is a lot that goes into alignments especially on a fully adjustable kit like this one. You have to keep driveline angles (depends on your drive shaft) , caster , toe and steer ahead in mind. So unless you are familiar with alignments, I would recommend that you take it to a professional and have it aligned. This will give you the best result (assuming they know what they are doing). Because an alignment machine is going to be 10000000000 time more accurate. (ok I may have exaggerated there) Cheers mate and thanks for watching. Feel free to respond back if you have any other questions.
@@XtremeTruckAuto oh definitely, taking it to someone is my preferred option, the issue over here is finding someone who will do it. This sort of thing isn't popular and so far every alignment place has took one look at it and just said no 😢
@@joesm00th if push comes to shove I can get you close. Let me know and I will get you angles and lengths off of my jeep. Keep in mind that I never put it on a rack to align it but it drives fine and the tires are not wearing funny so I figured send it. Are you running a double cardan drive shaft?
@@XtremeTruckAuto if I get stuck, that would be amazing mate. I'll drop you a line if that's the case. Yeah, managed to source a double carden one from a V8 WJ using part numbers. They are rarer than hens teeth over here as scrap. 99% of our WJs (WGs) all had the cv style ones.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! One thing I will say if you do want this kit I would recommend that you upgrade the RC x joints to the Johnny joints right off the bat. I have a video that talks about this sadly not one that shows the break down of the RC joint. However, I will very soon because it has been requested enough. But in all honesty if you are balling on a budget, then I would start putting the money away to replace them in 2 years (how long my joints lasted). I do thinks this is a great kit for the price and the only issue I have had to date is the joints. Hope this helps you decide and thank you for watching.
Great video! Did you have to modify your exhaust? I am planning on installing this kit on my '02 WJ Overland. Do you have a complete list of replacement Jonny joints?
No I didn't have to modify the exhaust. Below is a website that has the joints listed for every part of the kit. Let me know if you have any more questions. trailforged.com/2022/05/11/rough-country-flex-joint-woes/?srsltid=AfmBOor4XmheWD0hlo1ybo-Aq3g0a4X8vNHAWor4-O_rmUyETaOAgimo
Nice video. Just did mine. Did you notice that your trans mount was droped down quite a bit. My transfer case is pretty low now and the motor is tiped back as well. Might have to make some spacers to tuck everything back up.
I definitely like the design of the front control arms of the Rough Country long arm kit over the Iron Rock. But, in my opinion, the quality of the Iron Rock is a bit better.
I don't have any complaints with this kit after a year. Iron Rock is a great set up, but it is over 3000 for the kit. The RC is about 1600 so it is quite a bit cheaper. What I have heard is that the RC joints don't last long. I have had this kit on for a year and not had a problem with them or any of it. I believe that either IRO or Trail forged makes replacement joints for the RC kit. So when it comes time I will upgrade them.
The vehicle hight is determined by the springs. So there isn't a way to adjust ride height unless you do different springs or add some kind of spacer. The adjustmet in the arms is for axel position and pinion angle/caster.
Hellow master I live in southkorea and wj 4.7 grandcherokee 04. Two day ago, offraod little bit. And the make noise looks like steel rub so check the suspension. I found make noise from front low arm braket (transmission member). Between frame and braket have space where front side (1-2mm). Is it collect installed ? Thx to vid.
It sounds to me like something is shifting. I would go back though and double check all of the bolts in that area and make sure they are tight and try to give the bolts a little bit more torque.
So ill admit it, ive dogged rough country long arm lift in the past. Im seriously looking at them again for the long arm upgrade kit and using springs and shocks of my choice. Upgrading the bushings when they fail and so on. So how do you like the lift? Would you recommend it after a year? Ive got 04 wj. Thanks
I have seen zero issues with the rubber bushings, but you also need to know I'm not flexing it out very often. I built mine with the purpose of having an off-road capable daily driver. On few weekends throughout the summer I will load my boy into it and go out camping/overlanding. Most of the roads are light to moderate trails. So if you are looking to do something similar. 100% recommended with the upgraded joints right off the bat. Now if you are wanting to build a crawler I'm sure with the up graded joints and bushings this kit would do just fine. I just can't tell you for sure because I haven't tested the kit in that way.
I appreciate the video! Do you have any idea what caster or pinion angle you're running? I just got mine in and the front driveshaft is making a lot of noise. I've got the pinion at about 4 degrees up which is putting caster somewhere around 5 degrees. Don't really want to go any further or my handling will suck. Maybe I need a different drive shaft? I rebuilt the factory double cardan but maybe I did something wrong. Any help on what angles are working for you would be appreciated. Thanks!
I set mine up so the pinion was inline with the drive shaft. I believe that a (3 joint) DC you want the drive shaft and the pinon close to the same angle or the pinion pointed at the transfercase and on a (2 joint) or cv style drive shaft you want the transfer case and the pinion to be parrell or same angel. I think mine is something high like 6-7ish. If you send me an email (its under the about tab on the channel page) I will send you pictures of mine. I never put it on an aligment machine because I have zero issues and the tires are wearing fine. Keep in mind that doesnt mean that its in or right but it warks for me and drive fine.
wranglertjforum.com/threads/help-me-with-some-very-basic-questions-on-suspension-and-body-lifts.46387/ This had a pretty good illustration about half way down the page.
Currently I am running 285/70r17 (33x11.5) Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek tires on a set of Jeep Gladiator Mojave wheels and a set of Spidertrax 1.5 inch wheel spacers (DON'T GO CHEAP WITH WHEEL SPACERS!!!) G2, Bora, and Spidertrax are the brands I recommend for wheel spacers. I have done quite a bit of trimming on the bumper and wheel well liner, both for clearance and for looks. I also relocated my washer fluid bottle (I have a video over the relocation of the washer fluid bottle). I do rub at full flex which I am fine with because I'm building an overlanding vehicle not a rock crawler. As for a "no rub no trim" fitment RC recommends a 265/70r17 or 265/75r16 (31.5x10) on the factory wheel. Keep in mind this is without wheel spacers. They typically are spot on with the fitment but depending on type of tire some minor trimming might be needed. As for max tire size, I have seen some crazy stuff like 35 and bigger but those either have a TON of trimming or the fenders have been removed. It really comes down to how much you want to cut to get the wheel and tire to fit. Luckily the WJ platform is one of the easier vehicles to trim fenders, bumpers and all that type of stuff.
No, becuase you will be using the factory mounting locations. So you won't be replacing the transmission cross member and you wont be cutting the factory mounts off. It should be pretty straight forward compaired to the long am kit. I will tell you that rough county has some deicent instructions. So fallow them and you shold be good to go. I will give you the heads up that the bolts on top of the rear diff are a bit of a pain to remove due to the loctite that is on them. Once they are off and you go to put the new ones in besure you loctite them. If you have any questions on the install or you get stuck shoot me and e-mail. It is listed under the about tab on our TH-cam channel page.
I have zero complaints. I had to put a transmission in it about 2 months ago. So, I checked out the front joints while the crossmember was out and also checked the rear joints while I was at it. Everything looked good with zero play. 2 years+ and still going strong.
@@XtremeTruckAuto nice. I have IRO coils so now that u say that, ima irder the arms, if anything, i can always replace the joints only with a different brand right? And how does it handle on road/freeway?
@@carloshereaud5463 I love the ride. Its honestly better than factory and it handles how I would expect. It's my daily so I have quite a few miles on the kit. Its like 35 miles each way to work. Yes IRO I believe makes upgraded joints for the kit. That was my plan once the joints that came with the kit wear out. When they do I will make a video and let people know.
It fits all of them. The reason why its say that it want fit the v8 and the AWD version is the front drive shaft. Most of them came with the rzeppa drive shaft. You would just need to replace it with the double cardan drive shaft. If you go to their website the black one is a v8 with the 4.7. Per the customer it is a 2002 WJ Limited 4.7L Qudra Drive with 42k miles. Be sure you watch my videos over their x-joints. The only one I know it wont fit is the 2wd.
It's because of the front drive shaft. So if you do a 4 inch kit, no matter whos kit, they are going to recommend you get rid of the rzeppa driveshaft and upgrade to the double cardan drive shaft. People go to junk yards and pull them off of other WJs, or their is a guys who does it and sells them on FB he is pretty active on the WJ facebook forums. From what I have seen people have been super happy with him. If you post in one of them they will get you in contact with the guy. Or, go the route I did and buy one and the yoke to go with it. I got my DS from Tom woods.(great DS) and the yoke I got from iron rock offraod.
No I have the inline 6 but the reason is because of the front drive shaft is the CV style. You will need to replace it with a double cardan driveshaft. That is the only reason. So, beyond that you are good to go.
So on the fence with a lift. 04 WJ, I love it but it's also my DD... almost 40 miles round trip daily. How does it handle on the road? I seen people installing the dbl steering stabilizer and say it does well. All my control arms are shot so needs done regardless. Just not sure if the ride warrants a lift. Awesome video! Appreciate the indepth communication!
Mine is my daily as well (50 ish round trip to and from work). I have had it on for a while now almost a year and It rides great (almost like factory) no complaint at all. Even when I have people ride in the jeep they tend to mention the ride quality. I just upgraded the steering stabilizer to the single RC stabilizer and it has been doing it's job just fine. I have a video on that as well. Yes I would recommend this kit but my one complaint is the track bar heim joint is loud as well, but Yeah over all super happy with this kit especially for the price.
There is a relocation bracket that mounts on the front. It's eazy to install and only take a min to do. As for my brakes they are the Power Stop pads and their drilled and slotted rotors. I really like Power Stop's stuff and install them on all of my vehicles.
Did the rotors and pads make a difference in stopping with stock calipers? One more thing, on an 02WJ limited do you think it’s required to change the front drive line when they talk about this vibration with what the limited has on it? Thanks
@@brucecrawley5179 @Bruce Crawley Yes I noticed a difference even with the stock calipers. In my opinion they are worth the upgrade. It's technically not required. I had the u-join on the axel and the cv on the transferase. I drove around for a month or two on it with no issues. So I could have left it but I changed front drive shaft to a double cardan because they are stronger, easier to service than the cv styles and I figured better safe than sorry.
I have a 2 wheel drive 02 grand cherokee with a 3 inch pucklift but that just isnt enough. ive heard i can put the 4wd lift kit on mine regardless, and then ive heard I cant. Does any body know for sure?
RC's coustomer service is pretty darn good. If you call them they will let you know. I don't know to be honest. Don't know why it wouldn't but I haven't personaly ever seen a 2wd drive on in the wild yet. The only thing thing I could see being a problem is how the arms mount to the fron "axel" or the transmission cross member being different.
Funny part is you can get rear wheel drive jeep for $200 that need engine work, I'm about to buy some rough country springs this week, was this a 4.0 build I'm on 2-3/4 front and 2 inch rear spacers currently on a 4.7 HO Overland, love the interior ❤
It took 8 months. There was a shortage on the shocks and hardware. The other thing to note is it was ordered 2 years ago when the automotive industry was starting to see supply chain issues. I would hope it would show up faster now days.
Honestly, not as bad as you would think. The only reason why I had put the drop pitman arm on was because I wanted to relocate the track bar so it matched the drag link's new angle. Thought I had a new set of axels lined up but it never came to fruition. So the drop pitman arm came back off. I didn't want to do that much work just to keep the stock axel. In hindsight, which is always 20/20, I should have waited on the pitman arm install. Oh well, you live and you learn.

@Xtreme Truck & Auto Thanks. I'm looking at building a WJ trail truck for mud and snow. I think a 4" lift with 33's should be about perfect.
So I'm going to put the rc x series on my wj will it be a complicated at the long arm ?
One other thing is besure you grease all the x-joints and put antisieze on the threads of the joint that goin into the new controll arms.
How good is this kit holding up? Any review?
@@XtremeTruckAuto thanks bud. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
@@carloshereaud5463 no problem, if you have any other questions let me know.
Is the new crossmember same for s inline 6 and v8
Yes it is the same
What rock sliders are you running? They look super cool
The glissade from HK offroad. Worth every penny.
Stealth bomber is a way better name than boomerang 😂
Wish they had a long arm system for the V8 version.
Are you running Gladiator Mojave take offs?
Yes I am with 2 inch Spidertrax wheel spacers.
Rough country said this doesn’t fit the AWD models???
Is that V8 in your WJ? Still don't know why they list it as it wont fit the V8!
No I have the inline 6 but the reason is because of the front drive shaft is the CV style. You will need to replace it with a double cardan driveshaft. That is the only reason. So, beyond that you are good to go.
@@XtremeTruckAuto Ah, ok. That makes sense. Thanks for the help.
What brake set up do you have on that WJ? Pretty good once over but you didn’t talk about the brake lines in the front?
I looked into it and per Rough Country all the kits will fit on a 2WD WJ. They won't fit the right hand drive versions.
Funny part is you can get rear wheel drive jeep for $200 that need engine work, I'm about to buy some rough country springs this week, was this a 4.0 build I'm on 2-3/4 front and 2 inch rear spacers currently on a 4.7 HO Overland, love the interior ❤
How long did it take to ship?
It took 8 months. There was a shortage on the shocks and hardware. The other thing to note is it was ordered 2 years ago when the automotive industry was starting to see supply chain issues. I would hope it would show up faster now days.
Kick ass Content I’m in Arizona or you would be doing my WJ.
Thank you! To bad you are not closer would love to work on some more WJ's. If you find yourself in MO feel frre to stop by.
Holy bumpsteer huh?
Honestly, not as bad as you would think. The only reason why I had put the drop pitman arm on was because I wanted to relocate the track bar so it matched the drag link's new angle. Thought I had a new set of axels lined up but it never came to fruition. So the drop pitman arm came back off. I didn't want to do that much work just to keep the stock axel. In hindsight, which is always 20/20, I should have waited on the pitman arm install. Oh well, you live and you learn.
Anyone coming here to get information on this kit. DO NOT INSTALL A DROP PITMAN ARM!!! It completely throws your steering/suspension geometry.
Anyone reading this comment, DO NOT TAKE TAKE ADVICE FROM CANADIANS!!! They're socialists and dip their fries in gravy.
@@76erGrant I do like my poutine. 😂 but definitely not a socialist. I can’t stand our buffoon Prime Minister, and definitely don’t like who is your current president either.
Thanks for bringing up this point. I never explained what my plan was and why I installed it. Short video coming soon.
@@MrCommaD My man! You're welcome on this side of the border any time my gravy dipping neighbor! Cool RC stuff, too!
Парни, мы очень любим этот Джип, помогите купить лифт комплект и запчасти. Я из другой страны
Living in another country can make that a difficult task. I honestly have no idea if Rough Country ships international. If you do get the kit be sure you get the upgraded joints that I recommend in another video. Also thanks for watching I applicate it.

классная машина.у меня тоже такая 4.7.но у нас в россии сейчас сложно достать запчасти для тюнинга.
Thank you. I have put a lot of time into the jeep and it is not close to being done. That is what make these projects fun. That sucks that it is hard to get aftermarket parts over there. I hope things change that way you can get some more parts for that jeep.
@@XtremeTruckAuto thank you.and so that all plans for the construction come to fruition.
