ScotRail Express Review (remade) ~ Train Sim World 3

  • ScotRail Express and the Class 385 were recently updated, so I figured I might as well revisit this route and see how it holds up now. The original review wasn't very good. It had too much filler, and I got way too angry over the missing OHLE.
This is yet another example of a linear route that's too short and doesn't offer enough service variation, regardless of how good the Class 385 may be.

Interesting pronunciation point. "Glasgow" is pronounced "Glazgee" by the Scottish, "Glarz-go" here in Southern England, "Glaz-go" in Northern England. We're a funny, weird country.

LOL! As a born and bred Glaswegian I am happy to tell you that our slang for our great city is " Glesga' "! Thanks for popping by. LOL

Your inflection when saying Glasgow is noted and appreciated. The store page has been updated for this DLC with the announcements being removed entirely from the key features, they were listed there and touted as being automatic on release. It also says "working neutral sections". Neutral sections are used to separate different sections of the OHLE on a network fed from different sub stations. As far as the sections, there should be signs prior to the section along with track magnets on the track to open the MCB. Line voltage should then drop to 0 as the PAN moves from one section to another and the power brake controller should be in the off position. Once the train passes the next magnet, the MCB closes, line voltage returns and you can take power, braking though a neutral section is permitted. This is at least how I drive here in WA and how our neutral sections work, with one of our lines having 5 neutral sections for 40km of rail.

Couple of notes from someone who did actually live looking onto this route until last month, the 385 interior is cramped in game but is actually pretty spacious irl. I think its one of those perspective things thats hard to replicate properly in engine. Alot of the scenery doesnt really line up with real life and the proportions are pretty weird unless you are driving from the cab view. I know its a meme that you should never look for your own house in Train Sim games because it will spoil the route, but the entire area between Haymarket and Edinburgh park was pretty clearly given a once over and a stamp without any proper investigation (Which is disappointing considering how close the studio is to the route). The extra nick nacks of the route were pretty nice, but they really didnt make up for the content overall being pretty meh.

I'd love to see a train route that goes through the west coast & it'd be great to have a route where you can drive Edinburgh's trams

It's not the worst route by Rivet, but it is most certainly not the best. They've missed a trick by by at the very least not adding the line through Falkirk Grahamston and onto one of either Alloa or Perth. They should've added the class 170 as well given that goes up to Inverness and Aberdeen from both Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley. Overall, I agree with you that this route is sub-par, and not worth £30. Keep the content coming my friend.

I've been on this train service and I used to live near the new one of the stations that being Lenzie and when I say it is the most one-to-one replication but to be fair we don't have that many ScotRail Lines so I will take what I can get

As this is my local route I’m very disappointed in Rivet.

The fact that AI Edinburgh trams are switched for the Stadler ones in Croydon could mean that we may get a route soon that is in south london where the same trams might be a part of the scenery as well. Rivet games are based in scotland, so I think they do know the are CAF instead of Stadler. Either way, some tram is better than no tram, right?
Cheers from Latvia to New Zealand (my favourite country outside my home one)

I did see that Dovetail teased a new UK route in the latest roadmap update. I think it's going to be Preston to Blackpool North, based on recent leaks (though I could be wrong). A route as short as that one is very questionable, to say the least, though I might pick it up if it includes the Class 331 'Civity'.
In the video, I wasn't saying that having the basic Ai trams is a bad thing, just pointing out that the tram model is incorrect.

@@DC4260Productions If they was to do Preston to Blackpool I think they will include the routes to both Blackpool stations, North & South. Hopefully they make this happen as this route is right on my doorstep.

It is not bad, but not good either. Not the worst Rivet have done. It really should of at least gone up to Stirling, as that is where Rivet are based, IMO, and the PiS acknowledge the existence of intermediate stations between Alloa and Dunblane for one. Again, not their worst but not their best either.

Good video and review. Classic Rivet and TSW laziness when it comes to route building. Rushed to oblivion with a real lack of attention to detail, its really quite embarrassing when Thomson's original route on TS Classic does better on a far less adequate engine. The lack of trains also decreases the fun of the route massively. Though I think the route could be much better if TSW had the same modding ability as Classic. Nonetheless excited to see what Thomson have to offer with their Glasgow to Dunblane route, it can't be any worse than what Rivet served up.

    • @DC4260Productions
      @DC4260Productions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The presence of that Glasgow to Dunblane route in TSC makes the absence of Alloa and Dunblane in TSW even more glaring.

@@DC4260Productions No doubt about it, it can't have put a toll on the unreal engine by adding another 20 miles of track, I'm just glad I got the route for free. Even then I still want a refund.

I would highly recommend the enhancement pack and the sound mod for this route. I really only got this route because of the tms and announcements. The default sounds, although alright, are mixed poorly. The wind and running sounds are still too loud and loopy. The neutral sections apply a full application of your brake which isn't supposed to happen. Also some other bugs here and there that don't affect the actual gameplay. Rivet need to do better. I like how they offer some unique routes, but I think they should at least be as good as dtg when it comes to sounds and physics which I think are really important to tsw.

Yes indeed. For example, Riesa to Dresden includes five engines, even though none of them are new to the game. And Southeastern High Speed includes one locomotive and three units (Classes 66, 375, 395 and 465) with the 700 set to join in as well.
