Did ancient Chamorros really wear the sinahi?

It's a popular piece of jewelry for locals and those abroad missing home. But, were these clam pendants really worn by ancient Chamorros? One local researcher shares her findings on the Marianas Sinahi as part of an ongoing lecture series at the Micronesian Area Research Center.

In Burundi they are highly prized and praised. The crescent one is called Igihete and was ,in ancient times, worn by royalty and nobility. The square one was called Ikirezi and worn by everyone. This clearly indicates that there was trade between Polynesian and East Africa. Who started the fashion?

Guillaume Rusengo Ancient Chamorros had ties to Indonesians from Java Indonesia bcos there’s a Buddhist temple that clearly depicts latte stones that’s used as support columns for houses and people with sinahi’s which is apart of our culture. My ancestors were skilled navigators of the seas some say we come from Southeast Asia like Taiwan but we don’t know for sure bcos we’ve been on the islands for 4000 years and there’s been different waves of migrations. My theory is we came in contact with ancient Indonesians that could’ve came in contact with people from East Africa.

Ive seen rhe design before. In aztec and egyptian cultures, which again. Is highly significant as i believe chamorros lineage is intermingled with the native american slaves the spanish had captive. No studies done on that yet
