Pinned. No pun intended. Supercharger kits come with pin kits and it's detailed in the instructions that the extra resistance of spinning over the massive blower requires the pinning, but definitely worth mentioning and thank you!
I went with the Summit dampener that you showcased. The price and performance are both in line with my strictly street used, basically stock LS2 C6. Love the channel!
I would have gone with the Fluid Dampr instead of the ATI if I had done more research. No elastomer to wear out and no limit on the dampened frequency range. I had to use a strap wrench on the damper to turn the crank with the 8-rib + AC. I could not get a socket to fit onto the crank bolt without hitting the steering rack on the C6 due to the extra ribs.
ATI Super Damper on my C5. Tho she is bone stock with headers, X-pipe, cat delete and Borla Atax exhaust, LS1 motor is tuned and I may consider adding a super charger! But, for rn she's such a blast to romp on and I can drive my hubby's super charged C6 Grand Sport on those days I feel like testing the fates.
Thank you sir! This winter I'm doing a cam swap and will replace my H.D. at the same time. BTW...... I had a AC compressor go bad. When the compressor was engaged the H.D. APPEARED to be wobbling. AC off and its smooth (stock 2004 Z06)
Your videos helped me do my manual C5 coupe. Some tips for the home mechanics: First, I used the flywheel (or flexplate for the auto guys) locking tool (like the one shown). $40 on amazon. Unbolted the starter bolts, moved starter aside, and bolted in the locking tool. Second, I removed the fans for extra room (as he did) and unbolted/moved the steering rack as far to the passenger side as I could. Did not remove entirely, I let it hang to the side. Did not drop the subframe either. Lastly, I removed the air bridge on the top so I could torque the bolt from the top. I was able to use my body weight and easily torqued the arp bolt to 240 ftlbs.
Got the same summit unit few years back, no issues. The factory ones are crap and mine got bad fast when water pump was leaking on. It started touching the timing chain cover, others have them going the other direction.
@toys4life c5 First off, thanks for posting a lot of really useful videos. I’ve got a 2004 Z06 and I went with the Summit model that you showed. It was heavier than I expected. My old one was fine but after hearing the horror stories of some of these destroying everything under the hood, I made swapping a priority.
They are easy to change on the c6. Just unbolt the 4 bolts on the front suspension control arms put a floor jack on the oil pan with wood block snug it up. Then a second jack on the subframe and unbolt the 4 bolts on the cradle and lower it down. Remove the cooling fan and you can put an impact on the bolt. Don’t buy the silly racing ATI one for 500 bucks just get the oem one, it lasted 16 years why not just spent 90 bucks and you are good for 16 more years.
Another one! Man you are just crushing it! Great video, I've been doing some homework recently on my c6z purchase as we discussed , and this is excellent timing my friend. Hope to see you Saturday!
Certainly not a bad idea (mandatory for supercharged applications, and or high performance motors, and manuals over automatics due to the constant changing and revolutions of the engine.) That having been said, there are millions of LS engines out there, especially with automatics, that are not pinned and the vast overwhelming majority don't have issues. Also, an experienced installer will make sure the balancer presses on "tight" which means the interference fit is correct. If you press on a balancer and it goes on loosely, you should disassemble and measure/and or pin for sure.
Thank you so much for making this channel, first of all why would summit make a tool that doesn't fit their balancer and what are the possibilities or risks of tightening the bolt to 250 psi against the emergency brake and the manual transmission.
I appreciate all your videos, incredibly informative.I watched your video about the best years to buy as wel,so i was looking.I just purchased a torch red 2002 c5 manual with 37,000 miles, beautiful corvette.I have two questions for you,the clutch feels a bit heavy,my knees are not the same,so i wanted to see if there was a resolve,is it possible to make the clutch lighter, like thevc7 corvette,do you think thst could be from old clutch fluid or?My second question is well i live in reading pa and i want to get some headers and aftermarket exaughst, do you know of any reputable shops around my area,im not sure were you are located and if you do work on the side, any info is appreciated ty very much.
I don't wanna be a bad influence on the summit "8-rib" I have one, when it was time to put the belt on I used the back 6-ribs not good belt was trying to jump off, moved it up 2 ribs and that's were its supposed to be, nice looking great price but unless you modify every accessory and bracket you won't be able to use the 8 rib. The engineers really dropped the ball on this one, Just as heads up
Good point - you must use the correct ribs for stock applications to make sure the belt is aligned. I believe the extra 2 ribs com in handy for higher HP Supercharged applications where and 8 rib system is being used.
@Toys4Life I have an A&A kit, the pulleys on the A&A bracket are 8 -rib, bought the summit balancer in hopes of going to 8-rib, it is basically impossible to use the extra 2 ribs on summit balancer, the extra ribs go back toward the timing cover not forward like they should, hope that clarifies what I'm trying to describe.
Always great information! Now do I buy the C5 or C6. Seems like a GS 2010 is a good buy. I do like the looks of the C5’s but that Wide Body GS is great looking also. The C6 Z06 isn’t in the budget. What’s a man to do?
@@michaelm3381 I do this every time I buy a car. I started out wanting a 2001 C5 six speed convertible or targa to road trip to the corvette museum and do the tour and all of that fun stuff!!! Then after doing a bunch of research I stepped that up to the C5 Z06. Then going down the rabbit hole farther I started looking to buy a C6. Now I am knocking on the door of the C6 GS. But it’s not a Z06. Where does the madness end. Maybe just do the C5-Z06 and stop chasing the power thing.
Quick question, on your C5 how far out is your clutch pedel when you begin to feel the car move? I just purchased my first vette and my clutch pedel is like 90% disengaged from the floor when i begin to feel pull. Are they all like this or am i looking at a new clutch soon? Thanks BTW best corvette videos on TH-cam!
How long can we expect a harmonic balancr to last on a -98 C5 ? I changed it in 2021, now it has drilled into the bottom pan and I have to change again. I have driven 15000km/9320 miles since the last one. I believe that the workshop has installed it incorrectly or poorly. Please help a norwegian amature 🙂
Much much more than that, either the balancers defective, or the new problem is not the balancer, the only thing the shop could have done wrong is to not tighten it correctly and it's falling off. Without any specifics, I can't tell which it might be.
@@Dan-gj1hz yeah bro… autozone water pump got me too 😂😂 install it and first crank the bearing is spanked lmfaoooooo had to return it. Oreillys water pump still going strong

The Summit unit is the best unit you can use for street use and most race. The ATI is for only over the top racing.
