    2015 season after his knee surgery. Went from a top 5 player (27, 7, and 3, on 45% shooting) to barely able to post 24 a game with sub par efficiency. It was all downhill from there.

    2014 was the last year of prime Melo after his 2013-14 season his fg% was never 45% or above and he never averaged more than 5 freethrow attempts again.

    • @bdbnation413
      @bdbnation413 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      45% was around his normal average every season as he was not consistently efficient outside of a few season.but getting less free throws did hurt him bad

      @@bdbnation413 yeah but post 2014 he never reached that 45% fg again, in addition to not putting pressure on the rim and taking too long to develop as a catch n shoot threat. When you break it down, if you take away the efficiency of Melos pull up, which was effective for a decade. Melo didn’t do many things well

    • @bdbnation413
      @bdbnation413 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Watchingvideoslikeu I’m with you. My argument is just that the injury didn’t really affect his efficiency as it was about the same. If melo was more efficient in his prime he might’ve had a few years averaging 30.

    • @Watchingvideoslikeu
      @Watchingvideoslikeu 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@bdbnation413 yeah we’re on the same page, I think since he didn’t drive to the basket as much as he should have with his frame he never became as efficient as he should’ve been, also he didn’t rebound as much as he should’ve especially on the offensive end. He didn’t take advantage of his height and weight enough, in other aspects of the game outside of midrange pull-ups or post fadeaways. Once his athleticism diminished and he tried to get the same shots off it showed that his bag wasn’t really that deep to begin with.

    injuries did play a part of i blame phil jackson. the only competent team the knicks had with melo was 11-12 after the trade and 12-13. once 14 came around all knicks fans were questioning what the hell are we doing. tyson chandler was a shell of himself and constantly hurt amare was done, was having anger problems, and also hurt and then they brought in andrea bargnani to a team with only one defender which was one legged chandler. melos injuries definitely slowed him down you see it with the weight gain from his first year in ny to his last. the team had no direction and aging stars. melo probably looked around in that 14 season and said fuck it i gotta do what i can. melo always caught a lot of hate for "not caring about winning but scoring 30" or that "he only plays for money" i watched melo every game on the knicks as a high schooler and literally watched him drag the knicks to wins going up against every big 3 when our big 3 was melo amare and chandler (jr smith clutch af too) melo did everything that he could in ny when management did their job. thanks for this video because this is one player that got a lot of hate while he played and just as much after retirement.

    Melo’s “decline” and exit out of the league is sort of misleading and just a little tragic considering he’s one of the greatest scorers the league has ever seen.
    I think washed insinuates there was a point that Melo couldn’t compete in the NBA and contribute and tbh I think he retired before that point entirely came. He fell out of his prime sure, but he really maintained a level of skill and play where he easily could’ve serviced a team longer than when he’d retired.
    Unforunately I think his style of play (mid range mastery and iso ball) was becoming “outdated” with the hyper offense run and gun with small ball erupting in the league and whether true or not Melo had a public perception of not being entirely selfless or willing to change his style (to that end he REALLY tried being a spot up 3 guy for Houston but it became clear that just wasn’t his game as he’s a rhythm shooter not a camp out in the corner and wait his turn guy). So I think a lot of teams were just like not willing to take on a guy who they might’ve felt time was leaving behind despite his undoubted ability to still score (Portland showed that despite aging Melo could still come off anyone’s bench and get a bucket when you needed it or spark the offense, maybe not lead like he used too but he could get you points).

    I say washed in 2015/2016.
    In the right system even in his last prime years he could've still been hella productive. But he kept going to places where he needed to be more than what he could realistically be so it never worked out (along with other things, I'm not putting it all on him).
    Melo could've and should've still been a prime contender at least until 2018, and then a vet guy for a few years then retired around the same time he did.
    But we all know melo chased the bag, and when doing that you lose building a foundation in the league for your later years.. Your decline is more magnified, and next thing you know you're just out of the league one year.

    Great vid. For me it was 2016 when he just looked like a shell of himself. Truthfully, I couldn’t believe we were able to trade.
    But, I thought he would be to OKC what Ray Allen was to The Celtics (different games of course). Because when Ray got to Boston he was no longer a franchise player, but rather a really good offensive threat that played off of players rather than having an offense run through them.

    But mentally i believe trying to deal with his failed marriage and the way the Knicks handled shit was big as well. Dude gave his soul to NY and Phil just sort of... Shitted on all that.

    i love how you scripted this video telling us that we can click off the video bc you technically already figured out when he got washed but still having fair points to make that maybe he wasn't washed making us stay to the end but at the end you didn't really change your answer besides saying your preferred year while still giving us a option to choose when we think he fell off based upon his athletic decline Basically good video bro

    I wish Carmelo would have got drafted by Detroit and gotten a ring his rookie year. He would've been way more of an all around player if he would have been defeated by Detroit but by going to Denver he was always forced into a number one Batman position when he was better off suited as being Robin.
