2015 season after his knee surgery. Went from a top 5 player (27, 7, and 3, on 45% shooting) to barely able to post 24 a game with sub par efficiency. It was all downhill from there.

2014 was the last year of prime Melo after his 2013-14 season his fg% was never 45% or above and he never averaged more than 5 freethrow attempts again.
45% was around his normal average every season as he was not consistently efficient outside of a few season.but getting less free throws did hurt him bad
@@bdbnation413 yeah but post 2014 he never reached that 45% fg again, in addition to not putting pressure on the rim and taking too long to develop as a catch n shoot threat. When you break it down, if you take away the efficiency of Melos pull up, which was effective for a decade. Melo didn’t do many things well
@@Watchingvideoslikeu I’m with you. My argument is just that the injury didn’t really affect his efficiency as it was about the same. If melo was more efficient in his prime he might’ve had a few years averaging 30.
@@bdbnation413 yeah we’re on the same page, I think since he didn’t drive to the basket as much as he should have with his frame he never became as efficient as he should’ve been, also he didn’t rebound as much as he should’ve especially on the offensive end. He didn’t take advantage of his height and weight enough, in other aspects of the game outside of midrange pull-ups or post fadeaways. Would love this type of video for his Thunder teammate Russell Westbrook (although maybe not so much as a 'when was he washed', rather a 'when was he not viable as a true playmaking hub anymore'). Been loving your output and going back through it all recently man, keep it up bro!
Ngl Russ is tricky cuz i thought after 2019 he was finished as a star , he hardly dunked , yes he focused more on playmaking and passing and let PG takeover he only avg abt 20 and he jus didnt look like Russ much that year , but then he went to Houston put up 27 a game and looked as athletic as ever , went to washington struggled the 1st half of the year due to injuries , but closed the season out strong , then he went had a bad time in LA then got to the clippers and had a 30ppg playoff series vs suns , so hard to tell really when it happened
Took a hit in 2015 then really leveled off after 2017, which is year 14/15. That's a very good career trajectory, but the lack of a chip and comparisons to Lebron will always hurt his legacy.
Melo’s “decline” and exit out of the league is sort of misleading and just a little tragic considering he’s one of the greatest scorers the league has ever seen. I think washed insinuates there was a point that Melo couldn’t compete in the NBA and contribute and tbh I think he retired before that point entirely came. He fell out of his prime sure, but he really maintained a level of skill and play where he easily could’ve serviced a team longer than when he’d retired. Unforunately I think his style of play (mid range mastery and iso ball) was becoming “outdated” with the hyper offense run and gun with small ball erupting in the league and whether true or not Melo had a public perception of not being entirely selfless or willing to change his style (to that end he REALLY tried being a spot up 3 guy for Houston but it became clear that just wasn’t his game as he’s a rhythm shooter not a camp out in the corner and wait his turn guy). So I think a lot of teams were just like not willing to take on a guy who they might’ve felt time was leaving behind despite his undoubted ability to still score (Portland showed that despite aging Melo could still come off anyone’s bench and get a bucket when you needed it or spark the offense, maybe not lead like he used too but he could get you points).
Oh man these videos are dope! Looking forward to seeing what you do next. I wanna see a Lebron video and what makes him so great even at his advanced age
One thing with melo I feel like he underachieved on getting a ring in his prime. I know lala was a main reason of the move because she wanted to further her career in acting and other things, oh yeah the money as well.
