When I was growing up, classic rock radio had a handful of familiar tunes they'd revisit incessantly. Almost like predictability was their game. A billion forgotten singles by AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith, etc. Minor hits left to collect dust. They stuck to what people remembered the best. Yeah it sucked, but I guess it's what people tuned in for.
I have a theory that radio stations pay a subscription to some package that gets them certain songs. That's why we hear the same old stuff in the classics rotation, while some huge hits from the past are never played again. Other examples off the top of my head are "God Gave Rock N Roll To You II" by Kiss or "Are You Ready" by AC/DC. Back in the early 90s, both songs charted for weeks and weeks. People would still remember them fondly if they were still on rotation. But no, neither is played at all anymore. But if you want to hear "Better" by the Screaming Jets or "Right on the Tip of My Tongue" by Diesel, just turn on the radio and wait a bit. What's the difference?
Have recently only learnt above this band, im from the UK and love Rock, massive status quo fan... but damn, why they never came here i dont know, theyd of done aight... What a great song, have recently bought this on vinyl as well to add to me collection...
the one thing we revered about aussie rock was allways the prospect of seeing another doc , many nites out watching bands , I hope doc struts his stuff at a pub wherever we end up
Andrew because the new generation doesn't understand the quality of lyrics and the power behind them. The energy through the 70 , 80 and even 90s was a time in history and things change and move on.
I'm an Angels fan since the late 70's & have heard/seen it all. But Beyond Salvation is my favourite album & line-up. For me, it all just seemed to come together on this one. I know some (most?) might disagree, & for good reasons, but that's cool. It's just my opinion. R.I.P. Doc & Chris.
This brings back great memories when I was on a working visa in Oz back in 1990. I bought the album and thought it was cracking. Could not understand why they were not more famous in the UK. I guess too much competition.
First time I saw them in concert was in '93 (age 17) at the Rocky cape tavern (NW Coast of Tassie) as part of the barbed wire ball, there was 4 bands, 1st band can't remember, 2nd band The Poor, 3rd Band The Screaming Jets (remember Dave Gleeson stopped midway through a song as some-one smoking a joint in the front row, Handed it to him and he had a massive crack at it then continued with the song) and Last was The Angels and been a fan ever since then. True Classic Aussie pub hard rock that needs to be more of.
Hell yeah, a killer song from an outstanding band. First got into them back in the late seventies when I got a copy of Face to Face. From then on, I was hooked. Great stuff!
Lyrics: Riding on a lucky wheel of seventeen I think I'm gonna live to be 103 Feel like wild card -- what you say A slice of the night's gonna come my way Walking through the city I'm a king of surprise My midnight champagne's ready on ice It's Saturday night, I got nerves of steel I can roll all night on a roulette wheel Let the night roll on I'm looking for hell Let the night roll on I'm making a kill It's Saturday night I waited so long Let the night roll on Playing along with the rest of the world Saxophone women...satisfied girls I'm a wound-up string on a violin The future's gonna take me where I've never been I could be naked Sunday with nothing to wear I wouldn't know it, I wouldn't care It's Saturday night, I got nerves of steel I can roll all night on a roulette wheel Let the night roll on I'm looking for hell Let the night roll on I'm making a kill It's Saturday night I waited so long Let the night roll on
He was drummer for Citizen Band in NZ before heading over to Oz. Now is a manager and promoter for a number of acts including Dragon. Phil Rudd is still living in NZ and has recently opened a restaurant on the marina in Mt Maunganui, called Phil's Place. But, yes both are superb drummers
I usualy don't comment to others on boards but I have to agree if The Angels would have been promoted right here in the states ( I said this many times) The Angles would have been as big if not bigger than AC/DC here in the states. Glad to see more bands and Artist from OZ getting better promotion here in the states the last several years. Aussies Rule!
It sure is - Bieber is an embarrassment to the music industry. Don't worry, in 10 years time people won't even know what a Bieber is/was - but THE ANGELS will STILL BE ROCKIN' IT OUT!!
I remember a time in the early 80’s the ANGELS were better than INXS and right there with AC/DC!! Turn up …DOGS ARE TALKIN ! real loud ! Aussie bands back then were untouchable…..actually life back then was AWESOME
always liked how early Angels songs were a bit political but in the end Doc was singing about getting blind and waking up starkers. It`s usually the other way round.
Bob Spencer 👍. I worked with his mum at Westmead hospital in the early 90s. She was really chuffed I was so into the angels. I saw many a show for free thanks to knowing Ivy Spencer, thanks Bob, Thanks to your mum Ivy too 👍👍
I got out of a nuthouse about 5y ago to watch the As live after the passing of Doc I got put back in before the show happend my missus got two see them instead I'm 61 now and I hope not seen a live band. Yet how crazzy is that Don't let it happen to you.
@VALNUT1 Your comments on most of the Angels tracks on TH-cam crack me up and they farken rock. It's great to see that there are other Angels fans out there listening to their awesome shit!
So much good talent in Australia but its a shame gr8 bands like this didnt get more International support and thats because the aussie industry sucks and these guys should of had more support from promoters/record companys to get them international status..gr8 Aussie band and im glad to say ive had the pleasure of working with and supporting back in the late 80s 5 times when i was a crew member of support acts who i was touring with in those days.
forgot how good a song/album this was..... Doc was such a great frontman... RIP
What a lost classic. Barely played on the radio anymore, no idea why.

R.I.P. Doc! Shihad opening for the Angels when I was 14 - my first ever live gig!
Andrew because the new generation doesn't understand the quality of lyrics and the power behind them. The energy through the 70 , 80 and even 90s was a time in history and things change and move on.
I cranked this on Saturday night until 9:30, then I went to bed 😞

This brings back great memories when I was on a working visa in Oz back in 1990. I bought the album and thought it was cracking. Could not understand why they were not more famous in the UK. I guess too much competition.
Dean Henderson More so probably that they never toured the UK, otherwise they would have smashed it over there!
Dean Henderson too busy in the states
The Angels. It's Pirate Jack. I have listened. I do listened. I will listened to the whole.Journey of the music
@@thomasmarchant9423 - Huh?
Love the Angels I crank their tunes everyday and this one's a cracker

I did ten years singing in cover bands in pubs -- this song sums it all up. I never saw these guys live but I'm told they were fucken cool on stage.
Hell yeah, a killer song from an outstanding band. First got into them back in the late seventies when I got a copy of Face to Face. From then on, I was hooked. Great stuff!

Lyrics:
Riding on a lucky wheel of seventeen
I think I'm gonna live to be 103
Feel like wild card -- what you say
A slice of the night's gonna come my way
Walking through the city
I'm a king of surprise
My midnight champagne's ready on ice
It's Saturday night, I got nerves of steel
I can roll all night on a roulette wheel
Let the night roll on
I'm looking for hell
Let the night roll on
I'm making a kill
It's Saturday night
I waited so long
Let the night roll on
Playing along with the rest of the world
Saxophone women...satisfied girls
I'm a wound-up string on a violin
The future's gonna take me where I've never been
I could be naked Sunday with nothing to wear
I wouldn't know it, I wouldn't care
It's Saturday night, I got nerves of steel
I can roll all night on a roulette wheel
Let the night roll on
I'm looking for hell
Let the night roll on
I'm making a kill
It's Saturday night
I waited so long
Let the night roll on
I wish Doc could have lived to 103. What a legend he was.
Angels rock!

how does this get only 120k views and Beiber gets millions? The world is messed up!
Andrew Murphy yea boggles the mind doesnt it 😲
Yes, I agree- it's complete b.s.
Maybe it's all the downstrokes on the rhythm guitar.
I wonder how they'd sound with some wicked riffs?
And Beiber is literally one of the stupidest singers.
It sure is - Bieber is an embarrassment to the music industry. Don't worry, in 10 years time people won't even know what a Bieber is/was - but THE ANGELS will STILL BE ROCKIN' IT OUT!!
