    Ohh it’s so funny, I was enjoying watching this video (among your other videos) towards the end of last year, and all my time watching this has finally paid off because my BF fell into this exact problem just last week; another snapped cog piece, on the EXACT same door that you had to deal with (rear right). I had to replace my driver side door actuator on my VY ute a month ago. Considering it's done 18 years service, it's done well. The majority of car makers updated their door locking mechanisms after 2005 & are easier to fix.
    Another great video Sean & easy to follow instructions for those with no experience.

    Had the same issue with the left-rear on my AU many years ago. My wife would go shopping and every now and then she would come back and find the car unlocked. I thought she was forgetting to lock it but she swore she wasn't. Finally I realised our young (at the time) daughter would open her door and this would unlock the rest of the car (as in your video). Lucky it was cheap and easy to fix.

    With the front driver side door-the inside handle cable I leave it on the lock, the linkage to the outside handle maneuver it off the slot (the red plastic lug, bottom end) by turning the lock as I remove it. I also only remove the plug-in to the mirror and sit the door card on the seat turn at 90degree to save unplugging the speaker. That's the fast way to do the front. Also don't use grease on the worm drive, use teflon spray(lock lube) it less mess on the hands. I can do one of these inside of 10minutes while drinking coffee! Lose that end spring and you're off to supercheap :)

    This is a top tip for sure - Used to work in an office with a window overlooking a public carpark - I can attest that crims will indeed test every door. Update on my G6E turbo, it has been written off sadly. I've bought a Lexus G460 to replace it (the 2UR-FSE engine with 385bhp), which so far I'm loving particularly how well built it is and how packed with features and tech it is - and it's not far off the Falcon performance wise - but I know I'll always miss the falcon - I just couldn't find one worth buying here in NZ - actually finding ANYTHING interesting in the way of a 4 door performance saloon for under $20K that wasn't a shitbox German car was hard. I guess that's just the market at the moment.

    Great info! I had a similar problem with all four doors locking an then unlocking intermittently. All four doors would stay locked for a while then randomly unlock/lock repeatedly. Turned out to be a faulty BCM requiring the ICC to be taken out of the dash. A reconditioned BCM with the correct colour code had to be found, a spare key to program the replacement BCM and the drivers door had a later model BF lock actuator that was incorrectly wired up also causing problems. All up a $750 repair. Its probably the worst case scenario in this situation apart from having the car stolen due to doors unlocking themselves!

    My BF Ute has had both replaced. When broken the good door locks, the horn beeps 3-4 times and the door unlocks again. Can only lock with the key. Have also had one of the small motors die as well. Warning don’t replace the motor with the cheap eBay kits. They don’t have enough torque causing intermittent locking and you end up having to replace again with a 2nd had lock from the wreckers.

    I just bought a ba 2 weeks ago it needs a few touch ups but I love it!
    This door lock is an issue that’s done my head in today! The key fob is very worn , I changed battery door still won’t lock! I tried to reattach a bonnet lever under the steering wheel but not sure if its pressed on a fuse as the fuse cover fell off and the door wouldn’t lock after this incident!
    If the door lock fuse is the issue wouldnt it affect all the doors and not just one?
    So as this video says it’s that white thingy that’s the issue I look forward to tackling this myself! Wish me luck!

Then I found a guy who sold them in cast iron instead of plastic and they never broke. Just a shame they are not being made in cast iron any more. I’m not sure how exactly they detect it since there doesn’t appear to be any sensing capability in those actuators. Something similar happened with my vehicle years ago. The door electronic thing broke and the driver door could not lock, leaving the car basically open. Thankfully it was cheap to fix.

    My door won't open from inside or outside on fg, the back passenger side do you have any idea what that would be or how to get the door open without breaking anything?

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, your actuator needs replacing, AND child lock is probably on so you can't open it from the inside. Check out where the child lock switch is located on the other rear door, and try to devise a plan of how you might be able to turn it off on the door that's stuck shut. Try pull the door rubbers out to get more space, use screw drivers etc. Good luck!

      Hold lock and unlock down for at least 5 seconds. From memory I think the indicators blink to confirm.

    I got sick of so many minor issues like this with my BF Falcon. Overall a nice car but taking into account the number of issues, it was the worst car I've ever owned. Rust, blown trans (95,000km), ignition barrel spring failure, backfiring. Terrible car. Bought a locally made Japanese car with more kms and added 120,000km with no notable failures. As much as I love Holdens and Fords, they are just not as well engineered as a Camry or Magna.

    My first repair on my BA XR8 was to replace the door actuator motor.
    My issue was both back doors didn’t make any noise when pressing the button.
    Both motors just gave up working.
    Bought the motor and screw drives x4 as it was very cheap.
    Super easy fix. ✌🏼😎👍🏼

    Did this in my AU sedan a few months ago. Half way through a 2 week camping trip after spending the day driving on heavily corrugated roads. That night I could hear the central locking in one of my doors make very obvious broken sounds whenever I pressed the button. Wouldn't lock or unlock. Especially bad timing because I had a car stuffed to the roof liner with gear.
    Ordered the parts that night, few days later when I arrived home it was there waiting for me and I fixed it that arvo. The worm gear had snapped in half, likely weakened from those extreme corrugations.

    I’ve got the opposite. My EF unlocks then immediately relocks all doors. It’s last trick occurred with the keys in the ignition, engine running….30km from home, below zero degrees..

    VT - VZ Commodores have a similar issue, funnily enough my VX has a bung actuator on the right rear door same as your BA. Thankfully opening the rear right door with the rest of the doors locked doesn't cause the car to open the rest of the doors - it just makes the alarm scream its tits off. :)

    Hey bro,,this has just started happening on my ba Fairmont ghia on both passenger doors at the same times unbelievable
    Whaddya think?
    I haven't pulled anything apart yet to see what's wrong.any ideas?

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      100% the actuator. You can either repair them like I did, or buy the whole actuator as a replacement part. They're unique for every door, so make sure you get the right one(s). eg. driver front, passenger rear etc.

    • @RickVegas71
      @RickVegas71 ปีที่แล้ว

      @MotoringBox I hear ya but what are the odds both going at the same time? I've checked all the interior lights and the boot lock and they working perfectly fine,,I read an article about the same issue but it was the interior light that disrupted the signal,,an easy fix for him haha,,suppose I'll have to get the actuator gears an go from there ay,,cheers

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a very high chance, as they're all going through the same amount of cycles at the same time. To give you an idea, I replaced one on the AU, and then a few weeks later I checked all the doors again, and the OTHER 3 had all failed during that time! I couldn't believe it. So when you think about that, it's almost worth fixing/replacing all of them.
