    This is great video and thank you for making it. There appear to some rather simple tasks that cannot be done by Glide. Take a rather simple problem of retrieving images by tags. An image can have any number of tags and a user can search by as many or as few tags to narrow down selection. It seems one would need to fix the number of tags (Tag 1, Tag 2, Tag 3, and so on,) and give a Choice component for each column to filter the inline list. You can see the problem with this is the screen will quickly fill with Choice components. A more fundamental limitation is the number of tags per image (and the number of tags one can search on) will need to be defined upfront by the app's designer. What would be nice is to simply enter tags as a comma-separated list with variable number of items and match against the list of tags for an image. It does not appear that Glide supports the types of operations to enable this, prove me wrong :)

    Great and very helpful video! Thank you Bob!
    One question though: In my case I keep adding property addresses and sorting the display/list by the street address. This creates a problem since the chosen value from the Choice Component will not be in the first row of the "Gender Selection" column anymore (it will show in the row where the street number is the lowest). Therefore "First" will not work for the Single Value column. Any suggestion on a work around? Thanks!

    • @RobertPetittoWA
      @RobertPetittoWA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Instead of a single value column, use a join list column with no separator.

    One question though:
    For me, the selection always shows also the first entry in the table, although this does not match at all. Reason: The selection changes the entry in this first line so that the original entry is overwritten with the content of the selection ...
    Do you have a solution for? Thanks very much

    • @RobertPetittoWA
      @RobertPetittoWA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can always use a Join Text Column instead of a single value column.

  • @TiffannyDoll
    @TiffannyDoll 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is really helpful trick. However, for some reason, my data editor is not entering the choice on the first row but on the second. So it makes it difficult for me to use single values as it is not picking up the right info. Argh, very unfortunate.

    This was an EXCELLENT lesson. Can you suggest a way to sort the choices? I'm adding weekday and month filters to a calendar in line list and want the days and months in the correct order on the pull-down choice list. Thanks!

    • @RobertPetittoWA
      @RobertPetittoWA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How are you populating the choices?

    • @monafluitt2443
      @monafluitt2443 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobertPetittoWAI've created a calendar using the correctly formatted date fields for start and end. Following your video, I created a tab with detail layout adding an inline list with calendar layout. To populate the choice fields, I have extra columns in my google sheet for each event for weekday and month in addition to the date formatted START column.
      Again, following your video, I was able update my google sheet with your 3-step "weekday SELECT" column, "weekday SINGLE" column, "IF weekday" column. Repeated that for month. Then, I created the 2 CHOICE items of Weekday and Month on my details layout and placed them above the calendar item. The filtering works GREAT!!!
      Now, my issue... I want the sort choices to be in order of SMTWThFS or JFMAMJJASOND. I've thought about creating a new sheet and columns that identify Sunday = 1, Monday = 2, etc., but not sure how to then tie that back to the choice item sorting.
      Thanks for your great videos.

    • @monafluitt2443
      @monafluitt2443 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well...that's exactly what I did. I added an IF THEN column that says If Weekday is Sunday then 1. It's works just like I want. It just feels like a great deal of clutter in my google sheet.

      @@monafluitt2443 yeah…sheets might end up getting a bit more of “middle man” columns but that’s the nature of nocode!

    Hi, this is a great video! How would you set this up if there are multiple ages or genders?

    • @RobertPetittoWA
      @RobertPetittoWA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'd use a multiple choice component with some slightly different logic. I'll need to create a video on that!

    Brilliant job as always, Bob...but: What about GDPR? How do you handle all the personal data? Do you have written T&C forms or sections in your apps where students have to tick "I agree..." "I understand..." etc.? And is it really GDPR compliant then...?

    • @RobertPetittoWA
      @RobertPetittoWA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do typically add a terms and conditions on the sign in screen for my education apps. There’s a nice discussion on the Glode forum regarding GDPR.

    Dear Robert,
    I have applied this and it works very well. But now that Glide has changed the pricing and controls the amount of updates of updates (modified records), this has a serious impact and every time a user makes a query (search - read) an update is generated, consuming a large number of the amount of updates per month.
    How can we solve this?

    • @RobertPetittoWA
      @RobertPetittoWA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eventually, Glide won't count edits made to user specific columns. Make sure to use those as the column that holds the selection.

  • @jamesratchata7943
    @jamesratchata7943 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is very useful, but i try to follow your but seem it work once then next time the chioce select is not update in first row, but it update in the selection row that match between 2 choice. What i did wrong? I try join list column also the same. but if i am refresh, it all working fine once. i think what i want is chioce put value in only first row of column.

    • @RobertPetittoWA
      @RobertPetittoWA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This means that you’re sorting the screen which causes the issue.

    If I make a QR Code with this formula "=image("chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&cht=qr&chl=" & $B$2:$B&$C$2:$C)" how can I show it as image in the App?

    • @RobertPetittoWA

      Don't use the =image() function...just leave the raw URL in the cell and then use an image component to display.
