  • In an effort to demystify the topic of Row Owners and Roles, I created this video to showcase how and when you’d use each of these security features.

Very helpful. Just a heads up. If you have a user profile sheet where you have multiple "Role" columns - for example: admin, design, user, etc. and you use these roles in a separate sheet to assign a row owner.
So if you have a sheet and you make a column a row owner and use one of the above roles as the row owner then each user in the user profile sheet MUST have a role assigned to them. that row cannot be empty. i guess it makes sense but took me a while to figure out. hopefully it saves someone some time!

Super timely and clear. It's like you are speaking directly to me. :-) I now know how to go about security with roles for a group/family/business. Thank you, Bob.

Might you recommend making the group/role name unique? Maybe ask a managing user to create a name and then template a timestamp (or something unique) to a role id and then set row owner on the role id col?

This was VERY helpful with a pre-loaded email list. Do you have any videos with a blank sheet and it fills up when users sign in and can only see their data? Great work @Robert!!

Super clear as usual, God bless. I just have few questions:
    1. If I use query function for instance to make data visible for community, does that mean I must have another app for community? Because the app I am using then has Row owner already! Or just create a new tab?
    2. If I activate Row Owners, would it be faster? Because my app has almost 10k submissions and is kinda getting slower and slower.
    3. If I activate Row Owners, as an owner of the app, can I still see my employees check in and out and their salaries? Or it will be locked for me too?
    Thanks Bob

Row owners would greatly improve the performance Of your app. As the owner of the app, you would just need an array formula populating your email address on every row then make that a row owner as well.

How can you set multiple "role" columns but through a glide table. For example, I have different projects set and each project has a lot of data, so I don't want the users having to download the data for every project when they launch the app. I want to just assign 2-3 project codes to specific users so they only download the data for the project they are working on. But I'm not using google sheets...

Unfortunately, you can’t. If you absolutely need multiple roles, you need to use a Google Sheet or Airtable for your users sheet. Every other table in your app to be a glass table, but the user profile sheet has a point to a google sheet.
