I feel like someone, be it a modder or the original creator, should finally start optimising it and trimming the fat. Sometimes, simplifying things makes them better.

Kenshi's pretty simple, right click to do stuff, left click to select, wasd and qe for the camera, and the rest is explained through easy to access tutorials.
Kenshi’s pretty complicated, but it’s not Dwarf Fortress levels of obtuse. I never found myself needing a guide to understand what was going on, unless I wanted to know the specifics of how disguises worked.

Dwarf Fortress, for example, despite the common complaints, actually has a rather excellent in my opinion UI. Everything is clearly labeled with the relevant hotkey, and to access them, you have to hit that hotkey. It leads to you learning said hotkeys quickly, and as a result, I can construct quite a complex fortress in only a few minutes. Not to say there aren't issues. Mostly with where certain things are, as well as the lists lacking the ability to scroll through with the mousewheel, and of course the military screen which is just awful.

@@Nixonitus Look, I really like Dwarf Fortress. But its UI is not good. Not even from a visual point of view. It's extremely inconsistent. Sometimes you select things with the cursor keys. Sometimes it's plus and minus. Sometimes using left and right arrow works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes there's letter shortcuts, sometimes there aren't. Sometimes those letter shortkeys are alphabetical, sometimes they aren't. Why is a dining room created by assigning it to a piece of furniture, but a tavern is a zone you create in an entirely menu? I love the game, but the UX is fucking horrible.

Not really, people prefer easier pick up and play games like Halo and etc because... well not everyone likes learning a bajillion buttons just to play the game properly, yeah it may not be as complex as it may seem from an outsider's view like mine, but I'm not gonna pick up the game anyway because it's simply not my genre, not my type of game as I prefer FPS games, genuine skill over simply levelling up, getting good gear and mashing your buttons on an enemy until either of you die, not to bash those types of games or the people who play them of course, or XCOM 2 to be tactically challenging and make me think hard on my decisions before I make them because it could end in the perma-death of one of my most prized units, difficult and complex enough for me to enjoy without being too obtuse or convoluted. This of course doesn't necessarily mean I'm a moron(I am) I simply prefer games that don't require me to have hours or days of dedication just to learn how to do one or two new things.

Basically the game plays like an RTS, the devs' vision was more to make the player the observer. What seems to end up turning most players off on Kenshi is that there is nearly nothing the game does to push the player towards any goal. =P It kind of makes the game more of a story telling medium. =\
