I thought you said it was in F. 😂😂😂😂 I am an Arkansas boy from the 60'. We were all so proud of our Delight, Arkansas man, Glenn. He was my idol. So... This song is raw emotion for me. There are so many happy memories associated with this song. I'm still a young man some 60 years late, even when I look in the mirror. This song always makes me cry a little. I can't believe he's gone. I am humbled by you and your contribution to the world. I have so much pride when I hear this song. And now I will think of you when I hear Glenn sing it. Thank you.
I'm gonna try to learn this song from this excellent video . Great to hear the passion and respect in your voice for arguably the best popular song ever written.👍
@toppepp 0 seconds ago I love this tune, and how it affects me as a listener and a player. I was a kid when it came out, not really understanding what a lineman is or does, but felt the sense of longing for home and missing home, and missing the one you love. The motifs and progression reinforce the emotion so well. The ambivalence of the line, “and I need you more than want you.” was especially confusing to me as a kid. It said to me, hey kid, feelings and life are complicated. People are complicated. That’s a great song that communicates that to a child, or to anybody willing to listen and feel the music. The song has an instant sense of longing and nostalgia that made me connect to it in the first few bars. Jimmy Webb!
I love this melody, it kind of gives me a positive feeling and helps me to “fly away” from all the bad things that these days influences upon us. I am a “boy”, 70 years of age, and I love the way you teaches how to play the chords in different ways. As a pensioner I find great pleasure in playing piano every day, simple jazz tunes, and also playing and singing with friends in a guitar group. I find inspiration in many of the songs that you are presenting.😊
Hi Tony, great deciphering of the played notes. I like to do that too very much. I saw an interview with the great Jimmy Web. Interviewed by Rick Beato. At 30:40 Jimmy speaks and play the actual chords. Might be interesting to see and hear the nitty gritty stuf. If this results into new insight… I would love to hear it! Keep going!
Never would have tried it or thought about it but pretty. I have been writing numbers lately and added to my list. You think its a fairly ok practice? I use slash with either M major m minor or 7 and if its got a bass another slash with its number. Probably lyrics would be good too..... 1/M 5/M11 1/M 5/M11 4/M 1/M/3 5/M11 6/m 3/m 2/M 6/M 5/M 5/M 2/M/3 2/m/3 6/M/5 3/M 4/M 5/M11 4/M 5/M11 4/M 5/M 4/M 5/M 6/M
Very cool! We had a party line in the early 70s when I lived with my parents. Other party never got off the phone. On it for hours. we could hardly make a call! hehe. Nice chords in this. I'll certainly have a go at this one. I can sing a bit too. not bragging but I've got some decent tone in my voice. Tony, you can still sing great!!! (my favorite Glen Cambell song is "gentle on my mind"
I listened to it. I like what he did in the first half. He has lately developed a choppy style of playing which I don't particularly care for but I do consider him a great piano player. Saw him in concert once, terrific.
Thanks Tony. One of my all time favorite songs. Timeless! Here’s a cool live version with Jimmy on piano and of course Glen. Jimmy is a beast on piano. th-cam.com/video/gy4N3gmkpWw/w-d-xo.html
@@TonyWinston Your performance doesn't suck. I think at some point a quick run through of the whole song, and it doesn't have to be a grammy winning performance, would be helpful and then do your analysis. I just had trouble getting through the whole video with all the stopping and starting for the whole thing.
I thought you said it was in F. 😂😂😂😂

i've been looking for a great tutorial for this song. fantastic job thanks
You're trying to lower expectations. You sound great!
Webb said that even though the song is in F it's never played. Check out the interview with Rick B.
I just watched that! lol fascinating!
You played beautifull voicing chord
And also good sing
Excellent introduction to this pretty unusual harmonic progressions. Thanks a lot!

Same dude, the moment I heard this song I felt exactley the same. To be honest I thought I was the only one.
Thing about a great song is we all feel it, no matter where you are or how old.
I was 9, but listening intently.
Thanks Tony. A beautiful gift on a cold Sunday morning. Can’t wait to get to the piano.

Amen … I agree and at 64 I also sometimes weep when I hear this melody.
Gorgeous! Thanks ❤
Beautiful song. Awesome explanation. Thank you Tony. You sing and play it great. From Spain.
Thanks, Tony. Love this tutorial and the party line reference. That takes me to a good place!
That was badass! Thanks Tony!
Glad you liked it!
Great song ! Thanks for sharing this!
Lineman works outside in the wide open Witchita landscape. I hear the wind making the wires whine.

I've seen him several times recently, I love the way he plays his own songs, different from the versions we're most familiar with
Thank you for another great lesson.
My pleasure!
Love this and your voice is quite nice!
Wonderful tune! Side note, it's a baritone guitar, guitar tuned down a 4th to B. Classic sound.
Thanks for correcting that. I love that sound also. baritone

Whine is the electricity buzzing/hum through the line.

I used to sing that a lot, will try to dig a video. One of my all time favourites!
I see you don't have the melody notes. Is that because of the publishing issue which could land you in hot water if you showed them?
No, I just didn't bother. the melody changed slightly over the years, glen Campbell versions
Fred Hersch created and recorded an excellent arrangement of Wichita Lineman.
I listened to it. I like what he did in the first half. He has lately developed a choppy style of playing which I don't particularly care for but I do consider him a great piano player. Saw him in concert once, terrific.
So did Alan Pasqua!

PS: I think it's Scottish not Irish.
Sounds right, Scottish
@@TonyWinston Cambell not Paddy or O'leary.
probably a baritone guitar
Yes, Several people have schooled me on that! lol
Sure wish at some point you'd just play through the whole song instead of stopping to yak all the time
I do tutorial. My performance suck. Listen to glen Campbell or performance it urself . Lol
