He has an unbelievable range of control and sensitivity on the keys and he does all this while having fun because he genuinely is having fun because he's just that damn good. This is also why he's so good at selling the instrument and makes it look like he's showing off when he's just vibing to the music. Deservedly too. I dont understand why people attacking him because of just one stage perform, when you play piano controling emotions is so hard maybe that day he lost his focus at the end of the piece, you cant know that, people got 0 empathy and knowledge, they just criticise everything like they are master of everything, I’m sure %90 of these bullsh*t comments cannot even play first page of this piece

    • @Tennisisreallyfun
      @Tennisisreallyfun ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I don’t know why others are attacking him, but I can say this. There is no denying that he is an extremely passionate person with a great feel for music and through his popularity he has done more work for bringing classical music to a younger audience than plenty of older musicians combined. The world and culture in general owes him a debt for this. But for all of his virtuosity, I just do not believe he has a beautiful sound, and this has nothing whatsoever to do with technical ability or one’s ability to play the first page. I can’t tell you how many pianists I have heard in concert from Olga Kern to Andrei Gavrilov, Lugansky, Schiff, Axe, Trifonov, Denk, Dinnerstien, etc… I have heard Russians, Frenchman, Chinese, Brits, Americans, and really men and women of all races and ages. All of them had great technical skills. So what separates them? Their sound. It’s hard to explain it, but it is something that separates great musicians from the merely technically proficient for all instruments, including mine which is the violin. For pianists, even though they are just touching keys, they too have “the sound” and in the simplest of terms, it is a texture. It is a richness, and a warmth. For me, while the passion appears on Lang Lang’s face, I just don’t hear it from the piano. Instead, I hear him banging on those keys, and out comes something hollow and empty. Grandiose, magnificent, but empty. Maybe some people in the comments are attacking him because they think it’s fashionable, but as a musician and as a long-time concert attendee, this is my take and hopefully it’s respectful and not an attack. I hope I didn’t offend you with this.

      @kabuky1256 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Tennisisreallyfun Hm. It's hard to argue with opinions. As for me, I see incredible emotion through the music itself but if you don't feel it, there's no way anyone can prove it to you. I appreciate your response being respectful though.

    • @Tennisisreallyfun
      @Tennisisreallyfun ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@kabuky1256But I do feel the emotion! Every note Lang Lang plays is infused with emotion! This is why he is so popular, because he really “feels” the music. And as a musician myself, I appreciated that he is someone who loves his craft to such a degree. But when it comes to his sound, and just his sound (emotions and feeling aside) it’s incredibly harsh to my ears. Have you ever heard of the pianist Alexander Malofeev? I just attended one of his concerts in Orange County recently. Now that is a pianist!!! He too “feels” the music with subtle expressions (that are still clearly visible) and a profound emotional connection to the music. But his sound!!! Oh, his sound, it’s so rich and warm and textured. This is what I’m talking about! Go and see him in concert (the videos don’t do him justice, amazing though they are) and you’ll see what I mean.

      @@rosemaryallen2128 It is not the composer that is mediocre, it is the pianist. Blame the pianist, not the composer. And this performance is very bad, which is a shame.
      The reason why Liszt tends to be overlooked a lot is because there are so many bad performances of his pieces. Many pianists like Lang Lang play his pieces with no emotion, bland, dry, boring, messy, and very stupid.
      New listeners come to these videos, and listen to these bad performances and go "oh this sucks, the composer is bad", even though it is the pianist that played it badly... I was like this too, until I explored other pianists, and saw how good Liszt was as a composer and how stupid my thinking was.
      Like I said, it is not the composer, it is the pianist that has played it badly.
      If you want to see real La Campanella, listen to how Yundi Li, Evgeny Kissin, or Cziffra plays it. Not this garbage performance. It is not appropriate for this piece!!
