After 12 years with the IKEA bunk in one room, we wanted to move it to another room. So I just finished taking it apart and reassembling it. Your video helped me get started as well as to avoid that one mistake. Thanks!
TIPS : if you want to avoid this fail, SIMPLY flip the bed to its side and that way all the frame will be supported on the floor by their side. You will be able to disassemble them safely. ✌🏻
I have the same bed and was about to take it down today. Thank you for showing the fail. It really helped me to avoid that same collapse issue. Thank you for showing that part, also, as we aren't expert construction guys here. I agree that at some point it's very much a 2 person job. Thanks, again!
Thanks for the video and tips. We had three people to get it disassembled. The problem now will probably be getting it back together after we move. One problem we did have was getting some of the screws out (specifically the ones that hold the ladder). When we would turn the screw on the inside of the bed, the one on the outside would turn with it, so it was really difficult to take off the ladder. Luckily, we removed all but one, so the long piece is still attached to the bottom bunk, but intact.
My idea was to take the manual and undo each step. But trying to get those plastic screws out was impossible. So, I took off the ladder and put it on its side. I slightly unscrewed the sides until each part was loosened and was able to take out the assembled bed bottom parts which are pretty heavy. No failures on my side.
I tried but gave up after two of them. I ended up putting the bed on its side and taking off the sides, leaving the beds in one piece. This went smooth.
Good to know, I'm going to turn the bed on it's side when I take out the final 2 screws per bunk section. Then it shouldn't matter if you have 2 people or not. Did you have any problems with the slats popping off in transport? They are friction fit on those plastic inserts so really not much holding them in once in the uhaul.
The easiest way is to put the whole thing to its side after disconnecting the ladder first. After that you would just remove the bolts while everything touches the ground and voila!

Oh! This seems like a good tip for putting it back together, too.

Glad the video helped you avoid my embarrassing mistake!

Thank you for your helpful videos. There are very few videos explaining how to disassemble a bunk bed.
Thanks for helping us save our bunkbed!!
So glad to find this video. There was some wincing when the top bunk fell but still a helpful fail 😆
Glad it helped! 😂
Did anyone take this platic inserts out if yes please tell me how?
Hi! I have the same problem of you! Did you find how to remove them? And if so, could you tell how you did it please?
I tried but gave up after two of them. I ended up putting the bed on its side and taking off the sides, leaving the beds in one piece. This went smooth.
I also need help disassembling that last part - taking out the plastic screws does anyonehave advice?
THANK YOU

I didn’t have any issue with the slabs coming apart, but I was careful when I was carrying them and I stacked them snugly in the back of a U-Haul

FYI you can do it alone if you disassemble the top bunk last and you start from 1 side 😉
Can these become two beds I'm trying to convert for my kids today and separate
So helpful and thank you for the heads up!
I mistakenly disassembled my bunk bed in the wrong way, I'm having a hard time to disassemble the stairway, what should I do?
I'm about to attempt this myself in preparation for a move and really appreciate you sharing the fail and how to handle it properly!! :)
Good luck man! You got this
Is it stable to take the top off and use it as a single bed?
You couldn’t use the top bunk as a single bed without buying some extra parts. You can probably use the bottom though.
Good to know the trick, thanks 😊❤
