Absolute Mastery at playing drums with Journey and especially with Vital Information. He has always been in my Top 5. Also, I Love Sonor Drums. I Play Sonor Drums!
He's why I've played Sonor for 30+ years. He's gotten better and even MORE inspiring with age. He IS a Master!!! And yes...his drums always sound beautiful!
Steve Smith is to me a national Drum treasure like Louie Bellson and other legendary performers who only come around once in a life time. Journey in their heyday were one of the best bands on the road and to me Steve Smiths drumming genius and talent put them in a special category like Billy Cobham with mahavishnu orchestra. He is a heavy weight player in a very unique category and always such a blessing to watch and experience. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I know that Sonor has a reputation for fantastic sound and quality. I also know that the Sonor ownership is a polarized community with a love/hate relationship. I've owned two of their kits, large rock and small bebop. I tried to love them but could not. Yes, the quality is there and their unique sound is great, but I just couldn't grow to love them. Since then, I've tried other brands and sizes as well. I've finally settled on that "Great Gretsch Sound".
I saw Steve play with Journey on the Frontiers tour at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was Steves birthday that night and he played an extra long amazing drum solo. Market Square Arena is no longer standing but it had some great concerts. That being one of them.❤
what's with all these video snobs saying shallow depth of field doesn't look good. Shallow depth of field looks Amazing. Also, Steve and drums sound great!
I own a Pearl Masters, a DW, gretsch broadkaster, Yamaha recording custom and absolute hybrid maple and I think I get the most enjoyment out of my Sonor vintage series. The packaging they came in was superior to any other set. The hardware on the kit is great, maybe the kick drum spurs could be better but they’re pretty good. The came tuned. I don’t think I really touched them much with a drum key and 3 years later they’re phenomenal. The finis is the same as the video and looks stunning in person. The other Sonor product I have is the Benny greb wood snare. The new one with the dampeners. That snare is great. Probably one of my favorites out of about 20 snares. I should have bought an sq2 but it’s just too much. I’ve spent a fortune in drums over the last couple years but I don’t regret it. I definitely don’t regret getting the Sonor one bit.
It’s interesting because Benny could have any Sonor he wants. Yet he chose the vintage. His kit is the best sounding kit I’ve ever heard (and yes is snare is magnificent). The man knows drums and knows how to tune em. There’s just something very special about the Sonor Vintage
I know Marcus Gilmore is signed with them. Aaron Spears (rip) had signed with them for a brief moment then went to ludwig. I thought he sounded great with Sonor but...oh well. I completely agree on both points.
Steve Smith is one of the greatest to ever pick up a pair of sticks. Not only is he one of the greatest players alive today, he’s a very thoughtful, classy and humble guy and doesn’t waste your time bragging about his BS when he’s endorsing Sonor. Wouldn’t you rather have somebody of HIS pedigree, HIS skill level, and HIS wealth of knowledge endorsing your product instead of some jagoff with 85 tattoos who probably doesn’t even know what a paradiddle is? If you really want to be a great player, this is the kind of guy you should be listening to and learning from. Who cares what age somebody is when they’re endorsing a product? I WANT the guy who’s been playing Sonor for more than 40 years. He’s the guy who knows what he’s talking about and will tell it like it is. As far as the price, Sonor is a German company, which means they have to be imported aside from the fact that they are very high-quality instruments. Quality costs money. If you want something cheaper, then look at PDP’s or Mapex or something. FYI, most drum companies offer something at every price point, including Sonor. Check out their AQX series www.sonor.com/drums/instruments/aqx-series. You can get some of those kits for under $1000. If you want the really serious wood and the best hardware you gotta pay unless you have an endorsement. Maybe check your grammar too….”they’re outrageous” not “there outrageous” 🤦♂️

The way Steve plays this Sonor kit makes me fall in love with the drums all over again

Watching Steve play all these years, he became more accomplished with the instrument, so controlled, it's perfection.

Eh.....He's ok I guess.....Absolute Master on the drums and one greatest of our lifetime.
Sonor, time to sign some younger Drummers 🥁, if there are any out there. And by the way, please bring your Drum price$ down because there outrageous.

They signed Chris Coleman. All the rest of life on Earth is now irrelevant.
@@ryancox5097hahaaaa so tru 😂
SONOR has lots If younger drummers, and bringing down the prices? Building drums in Germany is expensive! The prices are not randomly chosen.
