Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with the door. I fought my day for hours. But with your video I fixed it in 30 minutes. Thanks
Years ago I replaced a spring on my door and one time helped a buddy replace a spring. Now i'm old and retired I have so much respect for these doors I just call the service man and let them fix it, glad you gotter done
@@ThePaintPaperHustle iIt was totally fine. I'm just glad someone took the time to go through the whole process. I know I could have just taken it in to a shop but what happens if it needs to be adjusted again? I want to know how to do it myself
Exactly! I started this channel to help others. That’s why I have 100% reply rate to every comment unless I can’t see it for some reason. Glad it helped you out.
Sir thank you so very very very much for this video. I’ve been trying to figure out why my damn door was either not opening right or not closing or some issue and it was all because of the swing not being stretched that little bit to have room for it to move. Wow. Literally the only video anywhere online that explains this. If I could pay you for this info I would. Thanks sir. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You’re very welcome. I hated the background noise and that I wasn’t able to capture better quality but it seems to have got the message across and all I wanted was for it to help others. Thanks for watching and providing feedback.
Video is pretty old so unfortunately I don’t remember length. However I think they all were universal length and you just roll it up and it uses what it needs.
Same system as a garage door. As a garage door installer i highly recomend calling a pro or doing more research before following these instructions. I give props to you man for trying to put a better explained video up for people but this is a very unsafe way to do it.
We had a garage door spring break once, the noise that thing made and how hard it was to open that door made me realize how much tension those cables had on them to lift that door to begin with. I had to release the pressure off the other spring before i could get the door to go up level and that made me more nervous than anything, switching rod to rod loosening it made my ass pucker a few times when one almost slipped out.
It’s been awhile since I did this video and can’t remember every detail. I do know as shown in video I used Vice grips and other hand tools to hold everything and twist the bar
This is still the question I have. I can certainly put tension on the spring but I don’t know how to pull the spring 3-4” to the street side and wind the spring.
definitely be careful. like a garage door these cables have A LOT of tension. I was dumb today and had a pair of vise grips on the cable. When the cable released it sent the vice grips through the roof of my enclosed trailer and landed in the street 60 feet away. Fortunately i didn't get hurt and my trailer has a new sun roof.
Definitely not looking forward to figuring out what the movers did to my curbside cable but it is off the drum and loosely wound. It was fine before they were in it. 3 or 4 guys removed my items and put my golf cart in it then put my items back in. The door was opened yesterday by me and it just fell full force on my shoulder blade. A neighbor helped me out picking it up and closing the door. Now it is locked and I'll be using the side entry door until I can get some help or time to check it out and see if I can fix it. I get the heebie geebies just walking behind it. I avoid it as much as possible. Thanks for the video. It helped.
Just fixed mine today after the new guy backed a 1000lbs mower over one. It now works better with 1 cable then it did with 2. I think I jeed to back the tension off a bit
I had a older 28 ‘ enclosed trailer, when I was backing out of the trailer the hinge’s(only 2 on the door ) broke . I immediately put the car in gear and went forward to save the car . Had to go home and fix the door (weld in four new hinges ) went back later that night to race .
These springs are not nearly as strong as a garage door spring. If you set your bar, wind the cables and set the cable tension first you can literally wind the spring and spread it by hand…
It’s been awhile now since I filmed this so I can’t exactly respond to that with direction. I can report back and say the door still works amazing issue free. Do which ever gets you good results. If it’s wrong the door won’t work correctly and you’ll know it.
So my trailer door had only 1 drum & spring (curb side) but the cable is gone (Bought it that way) so I need to order one. How do you know how long to order one or does it not really matter if there is some extra still on the drum when the door is down? The torsion spring has not been jacked with so I would assume this will be a fairly easy process to hook the cable onto the drum, wrap it around (while the door is up) and attach to the door bracket. Lowering the door should put the tension needed on the spring to assist with lifting it back up correct? Thanks for any help.
Ok so I think all cables are same length and correct extra won’t hurt anything. However you want there to be tension on it while closed so it holds it shut so you while have to still twist the spring up before hand.

That was a very helpful video! Thank you! And thanks for keeping your language clean. Excellent video!

👍🏻👍🏻 taught me way more than I ever wanted to know about trailer doors but your video got me out of jam. Thanks! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
That makes me so happy! You’re welcome
The best advice you gave is the ratchet strap to pull the spring down the rod!
Good hopefully it helps others out

Great video! How did you determine the length of cables to buy and how long was your cable?
Video is pretty old so unfortunately I don’t remember length. However I think they all were universal length and you just roll it up and it uses what it needs.
Thanks for sharing. One of my cables came loose so I need to repair it. This helps a lot!
You’re very welcome!
Great video. I have the same set-up. Described it to the T. Thank you!

2 years later Checking in buddy!
lol awesome
Excellent video. I didn't catch on till the very end where you said to undo the drums, put the tension on the springs then tighten the drums down. Lol.
Well I’m glad you caught it lol hope it helped you out
@@ThePaintPaperHustle yes sir it did. The door works like it's new.

Yessss they are no joke lol and you never fully think about how much pressure there is till you do one
How did you move the spring and wind it without it wanting to pull its back to the left?

Sounds like maybe that pulley set screw came undone buddy. Hopefully you can figure it out and get it back going up and down easily

Awesome! I went into this not fully understanding how these worked but figured it out as we went along
Do you know where i can get a new cable
eBay or Amazon

Holy crap man that must of been fast thinking
U need 2 of them
Lawrence two of what? Springs?
@@ThePaintPaperHustle 2 3/8 drive extens 1 told 1 to hold ajust tenten then lock impact,???
Gottcha yes that’s correct.
1 of the drums is painted black, the other red, ones for the right side, the other is for the left, also the direction is important
Yes
I'm just going to get TJ and then he can set it up 🤔
Lol have you seen Johns trailer. It’s an absolute mess. I told him we need to organize it
Don't loosen the spring, just loosen the pully's crank the spring tension, then tighten the pulls'.
Thanks
😎

Don't use 12 point. Buy an 8 point, which is the correct socket to use.
Thanks
That's a lot like a garage door spring tensioner
Yea extremely close to same.
Some heaver than. Others that's ways u adjust them,

The vice grips should of been hitting the door, not the ceiling that was in the last four videos I watched

Stop worrying about placement of spring it will find a home when you tighten it
