  • Clip taken from the Andy Timmons Guitar Masterclass that was recorded live on the 26th October 2015. Special thanks to the guys at Ibanez and Headstock for making the event happen.
    Andy Timmons has brushed shoulders on stage with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani so he knows a thing or two about playing the guitar.
    From touring as a support act for Kiss and Alice Cooper (with Danger Danger) through to MD-ing for Olivia Newton-John, Andy Timmons has an illustrious and diverse career. He has sold over a million records worldwide, had two number one videos on MTV and released 7 solo albums including guitar instrumentals, blues, and even a Beatles/Elvis Costello-inspired collection of pop tunes.

    I have followed Andy since I first met him at a Paris (France) event in the late 90's. At the time, he was endorsing Laney's amplifiers, and rightfully so, was demonstrating at their booth. His pedal setup was very plain, a volume pedal, a tuner, a Maxon overdrive, and a POD for delay. Of course, his trusted AT100 prototype. I can assure you, he sounded exactly the same using this very crude setup, than today with a much more elaborated enhancing sound equipment. Back in these days, I thought copying his equipment would make me sound like him (lol). Nearly 20 years later, after having mirrored almost everything he possessed. Thus I almost own one of everything is ever endorsed, with a few exceptions. Ok, this is also for financial support too. But the guy never cease to amaze me. I sure enjoy making the trip from Houston to McKinney when he plays at the Guitar Sanctuary each time I can.

      Yeah quarter note delay and a dotted 8th note delay,if mix kept low it works as Andy timmons vibe and if we keep higher mix and feedback it works as the Edge (u2)🙏

    Does anyone know the control layout of Andy's Ibanez ?
    The original copies had 2 volumes and 1 tone but the reissues have 1 volume and 2 tones.
    I've searched and searched and can't find the answer.
    Andy talked about having a '' treble bleed mod on his Master Volume '' of his guitar.
    Does anyone know ?????

    • @yjmsrv
      @yjmsrv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Directly from Andy's guitar tech himself:
      "Andy had me put caps on the volumes of many of his guitars, and all the AT's he uses. I use a 150k resistor in series with a .001 capacitor. This keeps the tone from brightening up too much as you turn down the volume, and evens out the taper as well." :Sam Swank You can buy these already set up all over the Internet- I got a bunch with Orange Drop caps from Stewart MacDonald (Stewmac) - Just search Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit- they're less then $8 each. The control layout is a Volume (top)- Tone-Tone set up just like a Strat. I own an original AT100 so I just checked in person. Also, I have the table bleed on that guitar- makes a HUGE difference in its tone.

    • @MrWolf5150
      @MrWolf5150 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yjmsrv thank you for the treble bleed info.
      Andy's AT100 is 2 Volumes and 1 tone. The original release of these were identical. Later versions had Vol and 2 tones but Andy still has the original set up and noone ever asks him about it in interviews.

    • @MrWolf5150
      @MrWolf5150 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yjmsrv it can't be a resistor and cap "in series". He must mean in parallel.

    • @yjmsrv
      @yjmsrv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's soldered on one leg of the cap- so I do believe that makes it in series. If the 150k resistor was soldered across both legs of the cap it would be in parallel- his is not.

    • @MrWolf5150
      @MrWolf5150 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yjmsrv The Stew Mac Golden Age treble bleed is wired in parallel so now I'm even more confused.
      The many interviews with Andy miss these 2 critical questions.

    Why use the compressor as a boost instead of just turning the amp gain up? So its controlled from the pedal board?

    • @thesphericalguy9018
      @thesphericalguy9018 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim Amsden hitting the front end with a hotter signal is different from turning the gain up on the amp

    • @BenFletcherGuitar
      @BenFletcherGuitar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's only using the clean channel on the amp. His drive pedal has a very dramatic boost in volume, so to make his clean volume similar to his lead volume, he needs to boost it in some way.

    All the hoopla I hear about this dude, he talks way to much, he plays in between all his chattering. I'm not impressed with him, I've heard nothing that puts him in a top tier level, he's stuck lamely in the middle. He's no Eric Johnson or Gary Moore or Jeff Healey, etc. Don't even think SRV, he's an older dude thinking he's younger. He also didn't make it like Ian Moore didn't or any other number of Texas 40-60 year old blues players didn't. Let's be honest. I could get great pedal info from any number of other guys.
