A "New Game Plus" Mode where the game adapts to your previous run would be amazing. This idea has unlimited potential. ^^
And is not impossible to develop. Tho the amount of work required means no one will ever do it.
If an AI like that actually existed, walktrhough's wouldn't work, and that is the biggest proof.
Unless the AI knew you were following a walk through and played along to keep hidden. ;)

Incorrect. See, the game doesn’t start personalized, it has a sort of “starter game” that you play before things start getting changed around by the personalization. These sort of “clean copies” are what the walkthroughs are on, and people who also have a clean copy will find that nothing is different about their game than the game the person in the walkthrough with the clean copy is playing. It’s only when at least one of the copies start becoming personalized that differences in gameplay occur.

The same could be said about the fishing pond in Zelda ocarina of time
I remember catching more than three different types of fish and finding that different lure but now when I play there’s only one type of fish and no 5 foot long eel fish or I can’t even find the extra lure to use. Amazes me how much they put in these cartridges and it is just so bizarre some of the little tricks even using a decko stick walking slowly around a butterfly used to bring me a fairy but sometimes it don’t work like it used to.

Ocarina of Time Fishing Pond has 2 types of fish, the Hyrule Bass and the Hylian Loach (which is a fish and not an eel), and 2 lures: the normal lure and the illegal Sinking Lure.
There's also Fish you can catch in a bottle, called small fish, all around Hyrule (but not in the Fishing Pond.)

Even if it's a hoax or real, I still love the atmosphere of it. All the videos of **personalized** copies seem so legit and they are very fun to watch, also pretty unnerving. Either way, it's a very good creepypasta and my personal favourite!

Also, back in the cartridge days, sometimes a newer printing of cartridges of a particular game would have an updated version of the game rom on the cartridge. For example, Secret of Mana on the SNES. After Square ended their partnership with Nintendo and started one with Playstation, Nintendo took over publishing SoM, and new printings replaced the Square Soft logo with the Nintendo logo. There were also other differences, like some glitches were fixed. So it's possible there was more than one version of the Super Mario 64 rom, depending on what cartridge you had. So maybe there is a rare number of SM64 carts that have some changes in them.
Or it's just faulty human memory.
The personalization theory only brings to light what happens when one hasn't played any game for a long time. As this video stated at one point we simply misremember level layouts, object locations, and so on. I fail to understand why some people have such a hard time just accepting that their memory is not perfect. It doesn't matter if we played something "like a million times" when we were younger we're not going to remember everything.
I have played Super Mario 64 on two different N64 cartridges and on Switch with the 3D All Stars collection, and I can say that the experience has been the same for me in every playthrough. There's no lurking AI that tweaks the game.

Something that I remember is that when I was playing Super Mario 64 at a friend's house, during the part where we were on Cool Cool Mountain's slide, I think one friend suggested that there could be something besides the penguin that we could race down the slide, but I've played Super Mario 64 many times and I have never raced against anything on the ice slide except for the penguin. I am not sure what they were referring to since this was long before the days of the internet. I don't think they were referring to the snowball you have to race in the Snowman Lost His Head mission since in order to unlock that mission, we need to beat the penguin in the race, which we never did at the time.
Okay. I know nobody will believe me, but there's a reason I found this topic so fascinating when it was shiny and new in 2020, and the iceberg video was fresh.
It was Tiny Huge Island.
You know how you walk in and see the portrait in front of you, and as you get closer, the portrait feels more distant? Then when you reach it, you can't go in, and have to go inside one of the left/right offshoots of the path?
Yeah, for me when I played SM64 as a kid (so like early 2010's, on an N64) I distinctly remember running down that straightaway, finally reaching the painting at the end, and jumping in.
After I died, I tried the halls on the left and right, realizing the right-hand hall was like the middle hall. After trying left and right, I went back to the middle, and wasn't able to jump in.
There was one other oddity which happened to me while playing (which I'm only half-convinced actually happened, I even doubted myself at the time), but in Hazy Maze Cave, there was one door. I think it was the one leading from the rolling rocks room to the elevator room. I was going back and forth through that door over and over, because I was a kid. I'm pretty sure one time, I went through the door, and came out on the side I went in. Again, this one's a bit fuzzier than the Tiny Huge Island painting, and I might have just imagined it.
Anyone else have strange memories that nobody else seem to have had?

Not in that sense, but back in the day I had a crane as a toy, those huge thing you see driving on the roads sometimes. I just had it in my room more as show model then playing with it. I remember played with it, when I just got it, there was a button on the arm to retract the arm if you had that extended… press it, and the arm will go down.. guess what I met someone who was really into that stuff, I showed him my model. I extended the arm, and when I wanted to press the button, the button was a total fake!? It was there, but it was just imprinted in the plastics!? It did not do anything… still tough, i am pretty sure that first few days I played with it the button did work!? Dafuq!?
I still have the thing stored for my kiddos one day… heck if that button turns the be real this time again..
Another glitch in the matrix Ive experienced.
I went to an outdoor skatepark, it was completely empty, and nobody there. Normally it was quite a busy place, so I was kinda feeling lucky. I saw a bag laying on a spot where we hang out mostly, because there was no-one around I guess placed my gear next to it and roll the skatepark.. my friend showed up, placed his gear next to mine and the unknown bag. He ask, ah your boarding already with someone? I say no budd, only thing I know is that Mr.T will join us after work. We rolled together and still no-one other then us to see at the park.. after an hour Mr.T showed up, he casually walk towards the unknow bag and starts looking in it.. my friend and I look at each other a bit confused, we ask him if that bag is his!? He answer casually, yeah its mine, why you ask, Its my working bag , just dropped it here. Is there something wrong!? My friend and I look at each other and state that bag was already there before we were even there.. there was a small confusion happening about the bag. My friend and I are convinced this bag was already there before Mr.T showed up.. we were also convinced the bag sure must be his, it had his gear inside which we were well known with, the bag matched his style which was kinda different by him very being onto anime. And no one else showed up to claim the bag, while lots of other people dripped in that evening for a skate session.. shit is damn weird..
man, I wish the game had that AI..... just give us a freaking DM for a game like that and it would have near infinite replayability, more so than Mario Maker
I fixed my old N64 today and booted up Zelda OoT, and then Banjo-Kazzoie.... my brain sorta screamed "why the hell is this game so ^$#@ pixilated?!?" but Im happy I got it working again so I can play these games on legit hardware :)
I've actually noticed very small differences between a cartridge that I had as a kid and a cartridge that I was playing later as an adult.
They were never game changing though.
I remember as a kid you could get behind the mirror or something would happen if you pounded on all the pillars in the mirror room 100 times. My dad had showed me this. It didn't add much but I remember him having 121 stars. And I always thought about that.

For the sake of argument let’s say this is all true, why is Nintendo unable to have decent online capabilities for every console after the n64 ? If they truly had massive servers dedicated this one game and orbital satellites that can essentially stream data to all super Mario 64 cartridges in real time with no noticeable slowdown on gameplay “ all of this in the 90s” why do the Nintendo switch have a a stroke every time I try to pay for a game on Nintendo’s servers in 2022?
I'd really love a mod like this. It would make the game a lot more interesting and replayable. But as a certain character says: reality is often disappointing
Yeah, my copy of Mario 64 had the abandoned village painting with no music and unprotected stars. It was creepy, but never impacted the rest if the game. Every copy of Mario 64 is personalized.
I remember 3 things from SM64 that i couldnt find on the SM64 emulator copy now one of them was a new castle with a maze on the middle top door instead of a new floor it had Green walls and another one was a 1995 style castle with courses and a boss battle course but when i entered the boss battle it crashed the game and the last one was a secret course with a cave like look that i accidentaly entered by nocliping at the bottom of the castle and i failed and then when i restarted there was no blue lava here and there was a possible fake star here and thats all i can remember (take this with a grain of salt since theae are unconfirmed or just a dream)
Out of absolutely nowhere, I found the WARIO Apparition in Mario 3D All Stars, It was terrifying, I ran but Wario caught me,
God the truly scary part is with A.I. now this could actuslly become a thing someday. An A.I. that personally changes something to your possible liking. I could buy a game and it could change things to slightly alter parts to my liking like music. THAT is truly terrifying and amazing at the same time.

I always just assumed they were modded roms on a pc, but the idea of modifying a real cartridge then selling it on ebay or something is really cool.
Whether or not there's some AI, my childhood cartridge had minor differences not present in a later replacement copy I got from a friend.
Mine was the one released in 1997 with the E rating. His is the one with the KA rating

Ability to save game with zero stars. Blue ground red coin stars in Bowser levels. Bowser yelling at me to stop running in the halls of the second floor.
I assume these were just added details in the second version though, rather than an AI
Also note this was over 20 years ago. Nobody changed my cartridge or whatever else you're claiming.
Later revisions did happen in the past before online updates so it's not crazy to believe your story. In OoT the Fire Temple chant was removed to avoid controversy and Nintendo never addressed publicly, people just figured it out.

I mean. The AI that is being developed at the time actually has a chance to do this. Plus sega technically did something with AI back when the pop on attachment for the genesis was released. Where if you put the sonic 3 and knuckles cartridge on top of it with sonic 1. It would cause you to end up in blue spheres which is a (Technically) randomly generated set of blue sphere levels.
Every copy of sonic frenchise is personalized
Since some games like Minecraft have a random world generator, you could improve on that by making the game generate differently based on the other games on the console

if the game adapts to the user then it is all about the internal clock used for the rng manipulation of what objects and events are loaded when … this internal clock can be different between cartridges but also from voltages received from the console/controllers/tv

As someone who has played on at least 3 unique cartridges of Super Mario 64 and who has spoken in person with others about the game, it's clear to me this isn't true. I have never heard or experienced anything like this.
I remember the Mini-Chill Bullies running around in Snow Man's Land and 30 Star Bowser taking 2 hits to defeat.

Crack on wall originally concealed a 1up my first time playing my cart. My cousin showed me it on his cart too. Haven't seen it recreated yet.
Friend in grade school swore up and down he seen Wario in the exact same place as Wario apportion clames. Down to it chasing him out the door. Also said he did not have enough stars to enter but tried anyways.

well actually i can believe it exists in need for speed carbon, because in one of my save files in career mode, it let me into freeroam ON THE DRIFT TRACK (i'm not joking) and it sometimes changes the car unlocks to another place which is rather odd.. and again i'm not making this up, considering the game was made in 2006, it's not impossible
I feel like this whole thing started because of people having false memories from their childhood. I don’t have any bizzare memories from playing it, although I was also probably 9 or so when I played it for the first time as opposed to people who were more like 4-5.

Uhh... if Nintendo were capable of creating an AI like that with 1996 technology, then a lot of AI researchers both private and for governments would be very interested in their work. They wouldn't even need to make video games to be profitable anymore. There's a lot of demand for AI that powerful in other fields than video games. I'd be more inclined to believe that these people slid in from an alternate parallel reality where the game is slightly different, than that Nintendo actually made copies of the game behave differently.
Daggerfall acts very similar to what Super Mario 64 is being examined for.
If this ai even ever existed, then why has this ever been used in newer titles on the switch? If this thing that's way ahead of its time (Even now) existed then why haven't there been people copied it? There are so many holes in this theory that it makes Swiss cheese blush

I doubt this legend is true…i JUST DON’T THINK WE HAD THE TECHNOLOGY to make a game like that back then, or even NOW. The story does give me the creeps tho! If it were true, what OTHER games of the era could have the same sort of A.I.?
I think what made me immediately think this was fake was mostly the JeffTastic footage used as examples. It's clear that the UI isn't the same, and that should be evidence enough that the game footage was in fact modded to create a narrative. Sure, some people can make the excuse that the AI can't be found because it's hidden regardless of if it's running or not. I think it's clear that this AI rumor is just an excuse to disregard the Mandella Effect. If the Bearenstain Bears (Not Bearenstein) is any indication, don't trust your memories.

Idk bout AI, reading playstyle, massive wireless servers (back then? wireless?? from the cartridge?!? hah), or trying to gather peoples datas (they were different times), but tampering aside, most I could see would be a small amount of randomized things, maybe with certain obscure criteria. Defly wouldn't be something that required alot of resources or servers based in Lorde knows where with Lorde knows what speeds. If anything it'd prolly be issues with the memory, cartridge, console, a lil dust, a slightly missed contact when it was put in; junk like that.

I played Mario 64, as a kid. And this is a rom hack, hack, fake thing. It's not real. Trust me. The original game, is not personalized.
I'm 14 years old I own an actual copy of super Mario 64 and my dad has an N64 and it works it's just like the virtual conservations it's literally fine it's never done anything weird and yes that one up does exist in the tower of whomps fortress
@Dr.Willy: The reason why people think their is a personalized A.I. they might have play the game for too long and since it is a physical copy on a N64 it could have crash from getting too hot, however did not crash deeply enough to completely restart, and they did arbritrary code execution by accident, because that happen to me as a kid, while I was in the hospital, and because the noty kid deleted my files, and since i did not wanted that to happen again, we change room, and since I had nothing better to do since i could not eat anyway, the nutrition was given to me throught an An IV. Since I could not play my favorite music since the battery ran out, and did not have any other battery, I played Super mario 64 without stoping untill i got all 120 star from 0 to 120 star, then it was over, since I had nothing to do I just goof arround in the Wing cap area, since I did not want to start it over just because I have nothing to do, then while goofing off it crash, but it was not corrupted the graphic was found the wing cap music still played and mario would not move, since reseting was not an option because if it crash while reseting it can deleted my save file, so I was in panic mode and press every botton on the controller like a maniac, untill all of the sudden it unfreeze on its own, but something was weird, mario could fly way higher then normal and after I went higher then the 3 rainbow ring a new power start showed-up and it place itself on one of the pointed tower in the Wing cap course, since I got 121 star I decieded to fight the finial Bowser to see if he confirmed the new power star, despited me having 121 stars Bowser still said 120 star in all. And even after deleting all save file that new start was always their but seem to chose a random pointed tower to stand on. When I was recovered I rented the N64 and Super mario 64 to see if it was also in that copy and it was also in that copy so that mean someone else experience the same thing I did. Then someone else rented the copy, and never return it because of the weird thing going on. Then the store owner got a new copy and the extra start was no longer available I even use the moon jump code when I got my own n64 with the game but that 121 power star never appeared, they are story about the 121 star appearing in different location not just the specific location that i mention, however at the time i did not know it was because of abritrary code execution through glitchess, that is why does website got remove since they thought it was fake because when they try to recreated it did not work how they done it did not work. Abritrary code execution can make thing that does not existed in the game make them existed in the game. For example Super mario world, you know that Super mario bros. 1 does not exist in Super mario world. however with just using glitch in Super mario world that cause the game to read code from unintended places, reading the controler in put as code. then Super mario bros.1 become playable in Super mario world. I know they did have to used a TAS to do it. So if this can happen this could have happen by accident in Super mario 64 someone accidently abritrary code execution the Wario apperation. Given it the illusion that it is a personalized A.I. changing thing for diffrent people. Sorry for the long comment

This doesn't even sound possible. Not at the time at least.
Could also be something akin to the Mandela Effect. People remember the game so vividly from their childhood but it doesn't match up with what other people played so a fake memory is created within the person's head, and to explain it the 'super AI' pops into life.
