The man who had an Eagle drop a turtle on his head was Aeschylus, the greek grand master of tragedy. In a twist of irony of the highest order, this only happened because he moved out into the wilderness after being told by an oracle that he would be killed by a great house falling on his head.
That kind of irony reminds me of a guy named Wilmer McLean who existed during the Civil War. One of the opening cannon shots of the war ended up going through his house's kitchen window and into the fire place, ruining his dinner. Not long after that he and his wife moved to Appomattox Courthouse to get away from the war. Of course when the war ended, his house and dining room were used once again, this time to sign the treaty that ended the war. If that wasn't bad enough, soldiers from both sides ended up stealing much of his property for "historic value," hastily paying him for the theft....True story btw.

I visited a zoo as a child and when I went to see the orangutan, he tried playing peek-a-boo with me behind the sign on the glass. Then he started doing this thing where he would walk away and pretend not to see me and then turn around suddenly to try to startle me. It was really cool and I decided that orangutans were my new favorite animal. I think he was being super playful because he was a dad. There were a female and baby in the same enclosure.
The orangutans were very confused in 2020, when I went to the zoo after things reopened. They really, really like human faces. Orangutans are fascinated by our faces, and seem to know what our expressions mean.
One of the juveniles was sitting by the window, watching people walk by, and would sort of pose when she saw someone holding up a phone for a picture. I could see she was getting more and more confused and frustrated, since everyone was wearing masks. To try and clear up the confusion, I waited until she was looking at me, and tugged my mask down, then pulled it back up. That got her attention! I did it a few more times, to dhow her that humans are still visiting her.
Then she did the most “I get it!” move ever. She ran and got her blanket, came back to the window, draped her blanket over her face, and sat there for a moment, then pulled it off.
The zoo posted later that “One of our orangutans figured out masks!” And she understands them now. Doesn’t like them, but understands them.

It's crazy how smart oragantans are yet it's even more wild how gentle and empathic they are. They legit feel sorry for people and other animals and will help them out if possible.

About that goat eye thing: weasels, ferrets, minks, and martens also have horizontal slit pupils, but the rest of their eyes are usually so dark it's usually hard to tell. However, badgers and otters have round pupils like us.

I've said it before, but even though evidence for it hasn't been found, I'm convinced Haast's Eagle preyed on some of the first humans that arrived on New Zealand. Probably didn't do it for very long, but I think it happened, nonetheless. Haast's Eagle was already used to taking out prey much larger than itself as it was feeding on moa. If you don't know what a moa is, think of an ostrich but make it slow, taller, and more than twice as heavy.

People can end up cashing outta life in some truly bizarre ways. Personally, I hope that when my number is up, I go in a way that's so funny, even my nearest and dearest will be snickering into their drinks about it. So far, I think the worst one I've heard of was a yes, zoo keeper, who was trying to massage an elephant's prostate to get his baby batter. The elephant decided on another form of release, and shat on the guy. Dude was alone and got knocked out by the fall. Probably his only check mark in the plus column for his earthly departure, because he literally suffocated in the goods delivered right on his head. What a sh!tty way to go!🤣

Ok but for real: I work at a bird sanctuary and we have one golden eagle who’s a permanent resident due to her being half blinded by an eye infection. I have to wear literal armor because golden eagles can and will go for the eyes and spine, even on humans. She hasn’t gotten me…yet.

Large eagles have also taken young children. they rarely die tho but they're dropped off far away. typically places where it's impossible to get too by small legs.
heard of stories where kids go missing in the woods and in mountains and are found far away. every time I hear them, I think eagle. they usually have weird stories which makes sense since they're likely dropped from high, meaning concision
Worked in a wildlife rescue centre two years ago, and had to restrain the claws of an old golden eagle female (the biggest ones). A few seconds before the end of the operation, my eyes met the ones of the eagle. Her look said « I know you know I can kill you ».

From what I believe, the flamingos aren't stupid. The one on top is dripping liquid and it runs under the beak of the one below, so it drops directly into the chick's mouth and both can feed them at the same time.

There is a long scientific history of people thinking birds are dumb because of their neuroanatomy. Their brains are small. They don't possess this part or that one. Turns out it just doesn't translate, birds are feathered Einsteins, and they probably evolved lighter and smaller brains because of the needs of flight.
I should probably add that whenever there is an extremely strong instinct like the one needed for parental care, it is totally possible for any animal, no matter how smart, to tard out following the instinct, look like a broken robot, and this may be what we see here.

Also, that thing about the rectangular pupils... all herbivores have them because it gives them a wider field of Vision. Only reason it’s noticeable in goats is because like people, they have coloured eyes. 👁

Trivia: Jackfruits are quite edible even when they're not yet ripe. Just gotta chop it up cook it with coconut milk and add seasonings.
Some regions in Asia have them as common dish with rice every lunch up to dinner.
Unripened jackfruit is an EXCELLENT meat substitute! Cook and season it right and it replaces chicken easily! My favs are tacos and pulled barbeque sandwiches but the possibilities are endless! 😋
