I can't speak for the other people but I've been racing just a little bit less time than chief and I 100% would rather watch the content on this channel with Jackie and Justin just being themselves and bringing us along on the day-to-day and especially on the test hits and everything else with that.. it's so much more real and relatable than what TV pushes to people nowadays.. Plus your humor together comes out great on camera and makes me laugh my ass of every video at some point

Absolutely agree. I was just gunna type the same thing. I have said this before, but this is like the beginning years of the show. A peer into the real lives of real street shit. This is what the show isn't anymore.
Now to go check out the dicussion with Mr Limpy. Two of the guys we used to idolize growing up on the old forum days. Now I can talk to them. It's wild.
Keep doing your thang Chief. Like I said in the past, I think you will find plenty of opportunities without the show. Maybe even more.

I'll start out by saying I'm a 67 year old who can't even spell Facebook or Instagram. What I know about you and Jackie,I've learned from the show over the years and the videos. That could have been me at Elk's machine shop in Newark,Ohio back in the 70's. Even though I own Brand X ( bigger cu.in. Windsor in a fox-body Thunderbird),the videos nail it. Helpful and great reminders in what needs done.
You two are great together. That seems to me to be something you can't fake in a video. You guys took a stand,be proud of that. It's obvious their are honorable people on the show and some who are not. A friend of mine told me long ago that, we're not here for a long time,we're here for a good time. Continue to be honest with yourselves,it will show everyone who cares to look who you and Jackie really are.

I am SOOOOOOOOO incredibly grateful that you have created this platform! I am also incredibly grateful to see you both so much more relaxed and less stressed now... and that you both seem so much happier since "retiring" from the discovery. I am truly sorry to see how bad the motor actually was, but thankful Jackie didn't find out under power. I pray the repairs will nit take 4 or 5 weeks, and that the final outcome will be north of 1100hp. I now look forward to Tuesday evenings... without discovery, and being able to see the true Chief and Jackie show. Much love from upstate NY.🙏💜

Ok, the race is on Jackie. I was feeling a bit down today...Long story but here goes.
I am 65 in 2.5 months. Last time I raced my NHRA slowest of the slow class car was 1997, and it was sitting in the garage ever since, looked like a barn find. You folks, SRC, Old Man Bill, and others motivated me to do it. Started on Jan. 10th, 2022. Car was mis- classified in 1994 (GF/SA), in Stock Eliminator, but at 2,763 lbs. (25.00 per HP X 110+170 driver/gear), but still ran under the Index, not far under, but under.
Ran full time traveling in 1995, not that competitive, but still won class a few times, or class finalist a few others just missing. Ran part time in 96, and 97...Young kids at home, so parked it. They are long out of college now. Car is a 1984 Dodge Daytona, head had only been off the block ever once in 1995, no machine work ever performed on any part of the matching numbered stock pcs., and my Mom bought the car new in 1984 (was not worth spending the cash for the pcs/machine work at the HP on a heavy slow sled, at the HP they claimed I had.
I contested in Dec. Of 95. NHRA redid the car/ engine combo and approved it in Feb. 96, reducing the claimed HP 11 percent. (I told you it was a slow sled...Worst class combination ever produced...From 110 H.P. down to 99 H.P....Where it originally belonged). So, now the math is much better 99 X 25.00 Lbs.+170=Target Wt. 2,475.00 Lbs. Diet of 300 Lbs. Heavy rules limit of where that weight comes off though per Stock Elim. Rules.
Took a 10 day garage and full house cleanup (Jan. 2, 2022), to free up the garage space, set car up on skates, exterior cleaned (Car looks real again), drained out 1 gal 13 yr. Old Sunoco Purple 110 race gas into clean clear dry water jug,, smelled right, looked perfectly clear though more red than purple, no sediment,...Broke out the breaker bar, turned the crank bolt easy as pie about 3 revolutions, added a lil coolant, charged up a 13 yr. old battery, it charged fully!
Pulled the coil wire, cranked it a good 3 mins. to get oil throughout the block. And fired it up for about 4 mins while I checked fluids, and blew out a lot of carbon and exhaust system rust, and just got some heat in the bolts,, to make teardown easier. Ran like it was never parked 13 yrs.
Started the dieting of the car first, and then started engine disassembly, cleaning and painting, long block pcs. as they came off were cleaned 1 pc at a time, then painted up all laid out on tables. While the Car was painted exterior in 96, and the interior was fully redone then too, the engine bay was still the original silver. (It is Black Caliper Ceramic now!)
Head was removed (looked a lot like yours, minus the head lifting, mine was sealed well, but 93,000 miles of carbon, and coolant with mixed metals causes scale buildup), I also thought it looked bad!
I sent the head to Georgia from N. W. AZ, w/ head gasket removed, an extra cam and cam gear, valve cover, and last 4 sets of plugs run in the engine. Expected the worst, and was highly surprised when it returned 2 weeks ago. All valve seats were fine and tight, all the guides were fine, all the valves were true and machineable. New Springs, upgraded valve guide seals, a 3 angle competition valve job (and I can tell it will breathe now that I could get a pinkie between an open valve that I could not do when it left here), a tiny bit of erosion in chamber 1...(Nothing I can do about that as we cannot touch the combustion chamber areas whatsoever). New slider rockers, new Upgraded PT hyd. lifters w/ shims, and a mild surfacing. New gaskets, and head bolts, and studs w/ copper nuts (with another 10 copper nuts, just in case we lose 1 or 2 during NHRA future teardowns), for header attaching, a new starter heat shield, and a few other parts I requested. (I requested he cc the chambers, and ck. the lifts on both cams while it was there).
In the meantime, pulled the block and tore it down. Outside was heavily greased up after almost 93K street/strip miles (oh, did I say when I campaigned the car in 95, that I drove it from AZ to FL, and NJ and all points in between, all over the country with about 1,000 Lbs. of stuff in the hatchback,, from NHRA National and Div. Track to track, and back home again...Not towed, driven). Inside the block, my pistons looked just like yours, Carbon covered. But bearings hardly showed any wear except the center main thrust bearing, found out all 3 rings on the #1 piston from the factory in 84' were all clocked in line, like about an 1/8th" out on the oil ring from perfectly lined up, and only 1 of the piston ring sets was actually clocked decently. But, bearing wear, rod wear was hardly there, all were well within book rebuild specs, though there was hardly any noticeable cross hatching left on the cylinder walls, and a tiny bit of ridge at the top.
Took it (short block pcs), into a trusted machine shop here in town a month ago, a lot like your guy, old school small town machine shop, they have been building performance and daily driver and boat stuff forever, know their schidt, and have the machines and experience to do it right! He was amazed at the condition, though iron block was scaled up, stripped all but the intermediate shaft bearings out. That was March 4th. Said it would go in the hot tank that weekend. But, they are busy, and covid still affecting our county.
Fast forward, I have ordered a lot of parts, been working on car diet (not weighed up everything yet, but will bet I am 75-80 percent there already, and have yet to get up under the dash). Windshield area to the front grill area primed and painted out all black with red accents. Block off plates done, some wiring, some plumbing done, rear tank out, fuel cell and bulkhead fabbed up and in process. Still waiting on some backorder stuff from Jeg's to finish there.
Meanwhile, 2 days before the head arrived back, he sent me e-mailed numbers on head cc'ing and my cam numbers. My min. target is 48.4 CC's per chamber and he said 65 CC's...No freaking wayyyyy....Gonna hold off on those Ross Forged Pistons being ordered after hot tank, and measure up till we re cc the chambers! 65 cc's would put it down near 8.5:1 C.R., off to my machinist immed....We talked Tuesday 2 weeks ago. 2 days later head came in, we Cc'd in his shop that Friday and whew, 50.2, 50.0, 50.1, 50.0...OK, that leaves us a future tiny amount to trim if necessary off the deck (of head or block), and we are back on track, and as soon as block is tanked, line bored, measured up, we can order the forged custom pistons (that will take 3 weeks to ship from Ross), oh....Notice the block had not been hot tanked yet! No biggie, he dropped everything and cc,'d that head with me! (Line boring, balancing crank,, measuring, forged pistons, pins, rings, balancing 3 of 4 to the 4th meeting min.. on the rotating assembly, honing, possibly boring, and assembly of the short block are all still waiting).
I am 3 months almost in, and target completion date was first week of June...Fingers crossed.
Called him today, any progress yet? (Itching here to get the pistons ordered and wait a month), yup...it is now ready for hot tanking....lmao...ouch.
Soooooo, let's see who's block gets to the assembly room first! (My bet right now is on Jackie's, but I may get surprised!) My head looks like brand new, my tables are littered with fresh parts and pc's all ready to go on, still some weighing and dieting to do to figure out how close I can get to my target wt of 2,475 when we scale it at the local truck stop down the street. And my bank account budget is much thinner, though about where we figured we'd be!
Ty both, among others for the motivation, and currently Jackie....I share your grief, so you two give me something to watch while We All Wait together please...And get out there with The Crowmod and The Lil Red Corvette, take them to the streets and break some hearts and give us some action to cheer for, while we wait for parts and pc's and great machine work together please!
Bone Stock (ok, with a great converter, slicks M.T. E.T 20" X 6" X 14", and a few allowable minimum tweaks, but 300 lbs. Heavier I ran 2.5 10ths above the minimum National Record best pass ever, with zero machine work done to it, so I am expecting to still go slow (OK, very slow), but the 300 fewer lbs, same index, same National Record minimum, same Wt. /Per H.P. with a whole lot less parasitic drag on the crank, breathing a bit better, and wt bias a lot more where it needs to be (up front in my case on the drive tires), and an actual cam lift where it needs to be, instead of where it was...I only wanna be the fastest of the slowest in EF/S since the GF/SA Class no longer even exists.
I'll test, then my Wife will set the record first. Then all bets are off, our 3 boys will all drive it, then Daddy the old man gonna have some fun being chased by some fast cars.
Sorry about the book, but I had to share the pain with Jackie, am really glad you had a head stud pop like that, rather than find out upon start up it was like that or worse, attempted to run it wounded. That could have been bad girl. And it will be strong when done.
My guess on Caddy Jack, all motor on a machinists dyno...858 H.P. at the crank, spraying later 1258 H.P. at the tires on a roller dyno. And breaking hearts and taking names on the strip or street on Small Tires spraying your life away, looking for a better wayyyy, whoooohoooohoooo. (But, the race right now, is to see who can get the engine back in the car first!)

Thanks Justin and Jackie for all the good information your putting in your videos. I have a 1976 Corvette I need a new engine for. I really got screwed on this car. I needed brakes so I went to Goodyear and they wouldn't do it so they sent me to a shop not far away. This guy said all kinds of stuff was wrong with it. He kept the car 18 months doing hardly nothing to it. I just called him and went and repossessed it. I brought it home in boxes. The floor pans was rusted out. That shop took me for $16,000. I paid $7,200 for it. It was wrecked and fixed but everything in the car was broken. I found a restoration shop around me they got everything working. But I need a engine, transmission and paint. What a cluster fuck. I wish I could build a motor like you can. I need a 350 SB. About 400hp.
I don't know the reason you quit Street Outlaws but I'm sure it just got to be to much being peace maker. You guys will always be my favorite. Jackie is the bomb on rebuilding motors. I never seen a lady mechanic. Stay safe guys and good luck in all you do. I live in Indiana. Wish I was close to you.. Waiting for your next episode on TH-cam!!!

Definitely had straight Tap or Well Water. Even with antifreeze and/or a lubricant mixed in, normal city tap or well water will corrode the cooling system over time. Always use distilled water in a coolant system to prevent corrosion. You can also use straight 50/50 premixed antifreeze. Most antifreeze manufacturers use distilled water in their 50/50 mix products. Love what you guys are doing Chief and Jackie!!!! #MWSNation

What CID is this engine? Is it 4.5 bore space?
Ok so I should watch the video completely before asking questions, but is it really a 383? Maybe short stroke 383? The way they were talking I thought they were being sarcastic about the 383 like telling everybody it's a 305, and it was probably a big inch small block. I was thinking probably 4.5 centers and 500cid ballpark but Cheif said 4.4 centers but I'm still questioning whether it's a 427, 434, at least 400,421. Not a 4" bore aluminum brodix, even though it's just sleeves but seems like anybody would go 4.125 bore. Only reason would be more sealing area on the smaller bore. But shrouded valves and 383 inches would never make 900na. How can we guess without knowing what it is.

    • @dawhoda1

    • @DM-qp7do
      @DM-qp7do 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@dawhoda1 Hell no they want to go fast not grenade the engine at the 60 foot. I have no idea what the cubes are but a 383 usually is a Chev 350 with a small block 400 crank. A "383 stroker" but I have no idea what kind of block and crank it is. I'd be surprised of it was a 350 block with a 400 crank though because I assumed it is a full on custom racing small block. I suppose the stroke and bore could share the factory GM sizes though. BUT I really don't know.

Noticed where someone already mentioned that when running straight water electrolysis eats up the cooling system and they’re right. The river construction job I spent all those years on we used zinc bars as anodes to combat the electrolysis on the barges, tow boats and the structural steel that was submersed in the water. It’s been years since doing any mechanic work on semi trucks but I remember having anodes for the cooling systems in the trucks that had to be changed out every few years that were basically a drop in deal that stayed grounded to either the radiator or the block. On Jackie’s engine, I looked into the SCE gaskets for my 632 and they do have some limitations on forced induction and nitrous use. Hate to say it but I wouldn’t chance it myself,I’d o-ring the heads if it were mine and look at going with a key way lifter setup or at least bushing the lifter bores if it’s gonna see 10K regularly. I know that the anodes add several ounces of weight but it might be worth looking into. Dad tried running that “Water Wetter” additive in his methanol motors but it didn’t help with the electrolysis, just made the water pumps live longer and learned from my circle track buddies that alcohol does the same thing only cheaper. Hopefully the freshen on the small block isn’t a huge kick in the wallet and you’ll be able to find a set of aluminum rods about the same weight, best of luck to ya both on this one. 👍

I think it'll Dino well between 750 and 800 horsepower. If your do a straight motor with no nitrous. But that is pretty thin in between them cylinders. What we used to do is port and polish anything that gas had coming in and exhaust going out. Mill the heads and run flat top pistons you be surprised by what you can get out of these cylinders without having to buy the dome type Pistons. Anyway enjoyed the show. Notice how Jackie put the old heads in the floorboard instead of in the back of the truck on a rubber mat.
