@ProjektTaku I agree. Hal has many more interesting stories and a bolder personality. Giving John Stewart Hal or Kyle's stories is just lazy. Just cast one of them instead.

I think the lantern stories are most suited to be a star wars esque franchise if they focus on other lanterns like saint walker origins sinestro origins but also focus on other alien races and characters like Daxamites Martians Atrocitus Thanagarians New Gods Czarnians Sodam Yat Tamaranians. Green lantern should get out of the lantern shaped room ASAP because in the comics most of it becomes like a P2 side character picking a different skin on the same arcade game with the repetitive construct battles. Maybe Hal is the space cop. Guy is the bad cop. John Stewart is the Architect. And Kyle Rayner can be the struggling artist but the theme is about space exploration front and center. The onscreen template for this series should always be interstellar

Ewan McGregor has already proven he can play a veteran guardian of peace from space who is training the new guy, so if he gets this role, I'm not worried.
They dont need to kill guy off. I like Nathan fillion and he deserves a prominent role in something and with James Gunn owning the DC ain't no way he's killing off his friend considering he was in all 3 guardians movies
One of the most high profile infamous things with Hal in a Tom King book was Heroes in Crisis, and gave us the famous line from him "I don't know what Will really is." He's like, so good with so many other things, and then we get most of his Batman run and Heroes in Crisis, which were just so high profile, and it sours his rep.
And "Mister Miracle," where they took a usually upbeat character and made him dark and depressing... or "Human Target," where he took the JLI and made them backstabbing, blackmailers, murderers, or depressing... or "Strange Adventures" where he took an upbeat space hero and made him into a war criminal.... honestly, I lost faith in Tom King a long time ago
@@yaloolah42 lets not kid ourselves with Mister Miracle, his backstory was super tragic, it was normally just overridden by his silly design and escapades.
@@ProjektTaku Fair enough! I just always figured that he used humor and his relationship with Barda to move past it. But that was just my interpretation
If they DO go with Parallax Hal as a phase 1 baddie (phase 1 IS called Gods and Monsters after all) let’s not forget Brolin would also make a badass Spectre!
Brolin would be perfect for a 1980's inspired Hal. People forget he was always the oldest human in the JLA., and is supposed to be a vet of the Korean War.
Hal Jordon is not a "tough guy" character, he begins his journey as the "Hot shot" and while he turns evil in the end of his life, there's still a purity to him when he comes back to life, filled with the experience of being the spectre and his previous life . I understand the vision of a gruff Hal Jordan for Brolin but it's not the only approach that can be taken with a mentor type Hal Jordan
Would've made more sense to make Sinestro the grizzled tough guy and he becomes disillusioned with the way the Green Lanterns do things after being with them for so long.
Road to Perdition, Ghost World, 300, and A History of Violence are all comic book movies that were NOT about superheroes and are incredible movies with great box office numbers and awards. DC has so many heroes that don't wear costumes or have superpowers. A DC version of Dunkirk or Saving Private Ryan with no superpowers or fantasy elements. DC needs variety to continue thru superhero fatigue. Sgt Rock or The Blackhawks could be that. They have so many horror titles from Vertigo and beyond that they could drop Blumhouse and A24 like horror movies. Sgt Rock was just a book about the horrors of war overseas in WW2 and those stories are still some of the best ever told.
I get throwing us into an already established world. Xmen movies did this, but skipping over all the growth and history? That's not exciting. I wanna see these characters iconic stories be adapted. Not just specific dark and overly complex Tom King type stories be adapted. Those stories aren't fun, or good.
Aaron Pierre is great casting as John Stewart. It’s very disappointing everyone only thinks of him as Mid Size Sedan when he’s incredible in Barry Jenkins’ criminally underseen The Underground Railroad.
I’ve been SOO intrigued about the idea/synopsis of this project for yearsss since it was rumored to be in the works … This is one of a very few projects I’m excited for from DC. 🔥
Tom King has actually written multiple GL stories, though only one featured Hal significantly. - Omega Men starring Kyle Rayner (the best one) - Darkseid War: Green Lantern starring Hal Jordan - Human Target w/ Guy Gardner Hal also briefly appeared in Strange Adventures
Can't wait for this show. It was a crime Green Lantern The animated series was cancelled, that show was so good. I really hope James Gunn doesn't mess this up.
Omega Men was not exactly a green lantern book but was Lantern-adjacent and starred Kyle Rayner as a central character and that is an EXCELLENT super underrated book. IMO one of the best super hero comics of the 2010’s
I’m actually really excited for this. An older, more wise Hal Jordon working and doing green lantern work with John is such and excellent idea. I’d imagine Hal would likely pass down the mantle as the main green lantern to John which would be excellent because John is my favorite of the lanterns.
Aaron Pierre I remember from the Sci-fy show Krypton. He played a Kryptonian soldier very stoic, loyal and by the book who was betrothed to the mother of Zod.
I think what James Gunn could potentially be doing with green lantern is kinda like what he’s with the robins in the dcu. As we know going from dick Grayson to Jason Todd to Tim drake to Damian Wayne would just take way to long. And Damian is the main Robin when it comes to the books right now. So for gunn it’s easier just to go “hey let’s introduce Damian in the brave and the bold and have the other 3 robins already established” And I feel like he’s doing the same with the 4 human green lanterns. As we know the order goes hal than guy than John than Kyle. So with that in mind I could see hal and guy but mainly hal being the older wiser veteran lantern that serve as the mentor to John Stewart the main green lantern and than eventually as the dcu goes on(if it does) than Kyle rayner will be introduced as the main lantern once John story is done.
No, it wouldn't take that long. Would just need 2 films. 1st film he adopts Dick Grayson after seeing the death of the Flying Grayson. Dick Grayson becomes Robin at the end of the film. Then 2nd movie skip to 5 years later and do Under the Red. And you could even introduce Tim Drake in this movie, since he came about around the time Jason Todd died. That's 3 Robin's in 2 movies. It's not hard. Just depends on how you do it. Not even trying and skipping to all of them being established feels a little lazy. They need to stop running from Batman's history.
Sargent Rock could have GI Robot in his crew, could have team ups with the Silver Age heroes, the former version of the Creature Commandos, Wonder Woman, plenty of options for run ins to help establish the lore of the DCU Earth timeline.
Josh Hartnett as Hal Jordan was my first pick. I think he can portray the version of Hal that Lanterns HBO is going for. If you look at Harnett’s best acting roles he plays complicated characters. He’s got the range and it’s a Josh Hartnett renaissance right now.
I have a theory/hope that by introducing Guy Gardner in Superman that will give them a lot of designs and VFX assets to enable them to do more than you'd expect from a show and give us a consistent use of the rings.
Also, Sgt. Rock vs The Reach (preferably closer to the infinitely better original version) pls & ty. Backdoor some Blue Beetle lore in there, since Jaime's another one set to cross into the Gunniverse. Maybe we can get a Dan Garrett cameo/post-credit scene where he finds/receives the scarab.
Sergeant Rock could be leading The Losers, and it would be a Saving Private Ryan type-film, where everyone slowly dies and SGT. Rock is the last man out. It would probably be sent on Dinosaur Island or something of the type, since a soldier forced to confront the absolute terror of a T-Rex would deal irreparable damage to their psyche, especially if it was made akin to Primal.
This show has repeatedly been compared to cop shows, which makes me think the creative team is going with the trope of the grizzled veteran cop getting paired with the rookie. Brolin's potential casting makes me think they are going to make Hal Jordan the grizzled veteran, and Hal as a character makes sense for that. The former hotshot who now has experience.
As much as i like him as an actor and i love all that he's done, i don't want Brolin as Hal because i think we'd be stuck with an older Hal. I want someone who can look and act both younger and older. I suppose that if they're going for a Hal as Parallax story, then he could work, but what happens after that? Do we just forget about Hal? I sincerely hope they're not treating Hal Jordan like a single-use razor. If they're willing to make prequel stories with a different actor for when he's younger though, i'm totally on board.
My top pick from those three is definitely Ewan. If you're right about Gunn going for the 'safe' pick most of the time (as you pointed out in your Supergirl casting) then I think he's the least likely. I also think Ewan would be a bigger headline than Brolin because surprisingly enough Star Wars actors don't cross into Superhero films often (Ewan in Birds of Prey, Rosario in Daredevil/Ahsoka, Mikkelson in Dr. Strange, Mendelson in Capt. Marvel, Felicity Jones in ASM2 are the few that come to mind, lots of Rogue One for some reason). Hayden and Ewan both could use a paycheck tied to a (marginally) less toxic fandom that Star Wars imo
1. Trevante Rhodes As John Stewart/Green Lantern 2. Milo Ventimiglia As Hal Jordan/Green Lantern 3. Luke Evans As Sinestro 4. Kevin Grevioux As Atrocitus 5. Mandy Moore As Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire 6. Terry Crews As Kilowog 7. Benjamin Bratt As Hector Hammond
Who gives a shit? It’s not as if dark skin black men are UNDERREPRESENTED in comic book adaptations or movies in general. Pierre is the better actor and has the actual build of a superhero. Let a black man shine for once in terms of build, height and looks.
Most White Colorists who have created these black characters often draw them in the same shade, hence not allowing the full spectrum of blackness to be represented on the page, when translating that to live action there might be some hiccups but it’s not wrong casting. Someone like storm or tchalla are exceptions due to their direct African heritage.
@@lamzy4683 | there are people in africa with light skin, as there are dark skinned african amerians. colorism is already a big issue in the film and television industries, especially when it comes to adapting black characters. john is not light skinned. it would indeed be a failure of casting.
I get the idea of an older Hal Jordan being like some kind of mentor, but... he'll be 60 years old when the Lanterns series get released. I hope Ewan got the role, he just has that Hal's charm and mentor like figure.
In addition to Josh Brolin, Ewan McGregor, and Matthew McConaughey, Chris Pine and Timothy Olyphant are on the shortlist as well as per Nexus Point News.
Three living Green Lanterns on Earth at the same time feels like a lot? C'mon Nando.... we have way more than that. And they can always pull the "seed of life" stuff like in Blackest Night if they need a reason
If Brolin is up for playing Hal for a decade or so, I’m all for it (after all, a GL’s actor doesn’t need to be doing massive physical stunts usually). No need to kill Hal off (or if they do, do the Rebirth story very quickly). This way they can loosely adapt a good deal of the Johns/Tomasi era of Green Lantern/GL Corps and by the end of a decade’s worth of GL/Justice League shows and films we leave Hal off with a fulfilling ending as he more or less retires in peace (Guy likely would retire too, maybe John as well depending on actor’s age and if he wants to keep coming back even after a decade) with Kyle, Simon, and Jessica being the next generation of Earth’s GLs.
My probably with Brolin is that most of the movies I’ve seen him in he plays characters closer to how I’d want John Stewart to be played. I do think Brolin could definitely look the part and he’s a great actor he just wouldn’t be my first choice. I’ve heard Timothy Olyphant and Chris pine thrown around to though. Characters they’ve played sit a little closer to my ideal Hal Jordan. I don’t know much about the John Stewart actors, but my fan cast for John has always been John David Washington. I just hope the show is good because GL needs a good live-action appearance to make up for the 2011 movie, if not I doubt GLs ever appear on the big screen again

Yeah, never seen him before but oh DAMN, that's a younger John. Especially on those clips Nando played with him with a short cut. Yes please.
He gives me grown up Cyborg vibes tbh. But wouldn’t be mad at the casting.
No he's literally not he way to light😊
If this is true i am ok with it. A seasoned Hal Jordan is the best version. Also this would probably mean John is the Justice League Lantern which I'm also cool with. Keeping Hal involved with greater mysteries and John busy with League business.
I dunno, I prefer the maverick, charming Hal who's good with the ladies and keeps you guessing whether he's brave or just airheaded. Speaking of which, I wonder if they'll adapt Carol Ferris and the Star Sapphire, that's one of the most important parts of Hal's development and taking it away would diminish his character.
@ProjektTaku I agree. Hal has many more interesting stories and a bolder personality. Giving John Stewart Hal or Kyle's stories is just lazy. Just cast one of them instead.
@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp I do like Jon but they've just stuck him into a "military hardass Lantern" position, which imo is a far less interesting dynamic that a maverick, and giving him Hal's stories would just be super lame. At that point just don't use him, like you said.
You should watch Snowfall! I don’t really know what you’re into besides superhero stuff😅 but Snowfall is a really good show I’d highly recommend it, love your videos Nando!
Exactly! They should be epic. And played out like a space opera. Grounding it to Earth again, is just boring.
all I'm hoping is that they lay off the "hal is bad" stuff. we already got that in an animated movie and we don't need it done again
Eh, if they go the mind virus root, could work.
Also, don't think that Josh Brolin would be a great traditional Hal.
That's exactly what they're going to do. I have no hope for this project.
Please watch snowfall. Your entire opinion of Damson will change. He is one of the best actors of his generation. The highs and lows he goes through in that show and the way he’s so perfectly able to emote everything that Franklin Saint goes through is pure amazingness. Stop sleeping on snowfall Nando lol
Hear hear! Really hoping it goes to Damson.
He did kill him off in The Suicide Squad and other roles he played were pretty insignificant
Tom King really though he was going to get people to question what "will" means as if its not one of the most clearly defined emotions ever.
@@yaloolah42Tom King is overrated. I honestly haven't liked any of his stories.
Make Hal Chris Pine
Just cast Chris Pine as every role
I can only assume Hal being older is for the heel turn that happens when he goes crazy with Parallax
Bingo, just like the Tomorrowverse. Wouldn't be surprised if they killed off Hal in this series
Golden age Hal is very much in line with James Gunn
Hal Jordon is not a "tough guy" character, he begins his journey as the "Hot shot" and while he turns evil in the end of his life, there's still a purity to him when he comes back to life, filled with the experience of being the spectre and his previous life
.
Heard it’s gonna take place in a world where heroes have been around for years so I guess it makes since but still
I get throwing us into an already established world.
'Lanterns' seems like a very 2010s name. Like Arrow.
It makes me think Kim Mitchell. Patio lanterns
I’ve been SOO intrigued about the idea/synopsis of this project for yearsss since it was rumored to be in the works … This is one of a very few projects I’m excited for from DC. 🔥
Tom King wrote a book starring Kyle Rayner in 2017 called Omega Men. While there was a lantern there, he was depowered for most of the story
Josh can play an older Hal in the present and get a prequel movie with Trevor Brolin (his son) as a younger Hal
Tom King has actually written multiple GL stories, though only one featured Hal significantly.
- Omega Men starring Kyle Rayner (the best one)
- Darkseid War: Green Lantern starring Hal Jordan
- Human Target w/ Guy Gardner
Hal also briefly appeared in Strange Adventures
Can't wait for this show. It was a crime Green Lantern The animated series was cancelled, that show was so good.
I really hope James Gunn doesn't mess this up.
I would've take a continuation of that over this planned live action show
@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp same here.
I hope there’s some period stuff like capt America, would like to see Hal Jordan in an old jet
Tom King wrote a Kyle Rayner book called The Omega Men and it was pretty good!
I noticed when you brought up Josh brolin you didn’t mention my favorite movie with him, “Everest”-2016 if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a must see🙌🙏
Love hearing Jeremy Salnier mentioned. Blue Ruin is such a good movie
So for gunn it’s easier just to go “hey let’s introduce Damian in the brave and the bold and have the other 3 robins already established”
And I feel like he’s doing the same with the 4 human green lanterns.
University of Oregon legend Jonathan Stewart, it’s a shame we never got a poster of him while he was there as Green Lantern since the colors match
That’s a bold strategy let’s see how it works for em in the future.
Have not read anything black canary, but definitely picking up the Tom king book.
Was not expecting a reference to the Carolina Panthers in today's video 🤣
I have a theory/hope that by introducing Guy Gardner in Superman that will give them a lot of designs and VFX assets to enable them to do more than you'd expect from a show and give us a consistent use of the rings.
I hope this series gets renewed for multiple seasons, and I want to play Dex-Starr.
Oh, Josh also played young K in MIB 3 the time travel one
The one two punch of Nando mentioning Doctor Sleep and Fargo specifically s3, just makes me happy, I feel like I never see any love for them.
I’m good with these castings, they make sense, especially for an older Hal.
Mcgregor also did Trainspotting, which wasn’t a grizzled badass role but still very gnarly and seedy. I could still picture him as a more classic Hal
Im calling it: they are gonna do Guy Gardner Returns as his solo show/movie.
David Jonsson would be next level. Would bring the depth to John and all his inner conflicts
Are we still getting that DC Corps TV show I been waiting on that almost ten years tbh
Tom king wrote The Omega Men which was very heavily a Kyle Rayner white Lantern story.
I would love if they did the Geoff Johns run but swapped Sinestro for Hal and Hal for John.
1. Trevante Rhodes As John Stewart/Green Lantern
2. Milo Ventimiglia As Hal Jordan/Green Lantern
3. Luke Evans As Sinestro
4. Kevin Grevioux As Atrocitus
5. Mandy Moore As Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire
6. Terry Crews As Kilowog
7. Benjamin Bratt As Hector Hammond
Was the Men in Black 3 reference too on the nose for you to mention?
watch aaron pierre in the underground railroad, he's GREAT and this is one of the best minisseries of the decade
I would consider Omega Men a Green Lantern story (Even if Kyle was a White Lantern at the time)
A lightskinned John Stuart would be pretty disappointing for my ngl
Ding ding ding
Same brother
Chris Pine and Damson Idris would be so good
Brolin playing Parallax Hal would be crazy
I like these potential castings. I could definitely see Josh Brolin as an experienced Hal Jordan. Really though I'd be fine with any of those three.
Chris Pine & Timothy Olyphant also being rumored. Both of those names are the best options! Pine is my #1 for Hal!
I get the idea of an older Hal Jordan being like some kind of mentor, but... he'll be 60 years old when the Lanterns series get released. I hope Ewan got the role, he just has that Hal's charm and mentor like figure.
I can see that they’re heavily going after the True Detective vibe.
Josh Duhamel and David Jonsson would be a great pairing for these two.
How is this the first time I'm hearing about "Midsize Sedan"? We spent so long talking about the beach that makes you old, we missed "Midsize Sedan"?
Yeah... my casting preparations are same as yours. Brolin and McConaughey seem to samey to their other roles with this
And we’ve also got Chris Pine and Timothy Olyphant thrown into the mix too apparently
I know everybody keeps bringing up Parallax but I’ve seen nobody mention the possibility of Jordan becoming the Spectre
I think James Marsden would be a really good Green Lantern. He deserves another shot at a superhero after he was wasted in Cyclops.
You should definitely check out Snowfall. Damson is exceptional in that show.
Damson idris + Josh Brolin would be anazing, damson idris is a really good actor
Sergeant Rock should fight The Reach or the kroloteans
Also the Sgt. Rock movie could do Dinosaur island!
The show was pitched as True Detective with Green Lanterns, thats why. Its like The Batman, I doubt its James Gunn's Green Lantern
