      Reminds me of one I had in my taxi many years ago... Driving passenger up a busy urban street, I approach a zebra crossing. Cat emerges from a garden, turns, matches five yards down the road to the aforementioned, stops, looks and marches across the crossing to enter garden the other side as I, and a car coming the other way, lift off the throttle. Passenger goes, " I'm in a taxi 'cos I'm pissed; but did I just see a cat using a zebra crossing?"

    A couple of weeks ago I was behind a cyclist on a curving road, couldn't see if there was any oncoming traffic due to the bend (a 50 mph road) so I waited a few minutes until I could see it was safe to overtake, but all the while a taxi behind me was tailgating and getting agitated.
    I could finally see a clear road, indicated and started pulling out - at the same time the taxi pulled out without indicating and attempted a double overtake of me and the cyclist. It was a bit hairy for a moment but I managed to overtake safely and he pulled back in behind me (honestly not sure who was in the wrong here), but now he was pissed off, tailgating, flashing, gesticulating to pull over, he followed me for about 3 miles before he got bored and turned off - but the worst part he had an elderly passenger in the seat next to him!

      Highway code and theory test say to increase the gap between you and the vehicle in front if tailgated - a bicycle is a vehicle, so that's what I would have done, which would have meant going even slower. That's what I do, and just ignore the gesticulating or stick a quick middle finger up - don't recommend that, better to be calm - and then ignore them.

    At 5.34 the driver had moved well before the green light is on, it s only at red and amber which is be prepared to proceed. A green light does not mean go, it means proceed only if clear to do so, the driver should have waited, so both drivers are in the wrong.

    • @scottlaaa
      @scottlaaa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @hozzer68
      @hozzer68 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      scottlaaa 1984 Highway Code, you have to wait until the light is green , only proceed if clear to do so, had the waited they would’ve seen the silver car and therefore should not have moved, as it was not clear to do so, simple, both at fault.

      scottlaaa 1984 fair enough, that’s why going as soon as it goes to red and amber you’re going well before you should if , you wait till it’s green then react there is probably about 2 seconds before you actually move in which the driver would be completely able to judge the silver car .

    • @thegamerpokemon5767
      @thegamerpokemon5767 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, he should've anticipated the red light. All who learn to drive know that you should be prepared to begin to slow down immediately, if the light has been green for a while. The lights turn to amber at 3:32 , which means if he'd pressed down on the brake pedal there and then, he could've stopped.
      Besides, although you are correct about stopping distance increasing with weight, it is only comparable if both vehicles have to slam on the breaks, which clearly wasn't necessary here. For a heavier vehicle to slow down as fast as a normal vehicle, they just need to apply a bigger breaking force.

    Taxi drivers are up there for me as some of the poorest driving I’ve seen on the roads, the lack of indicators, the just pulling out, the stopping in some of the worst places etc etc and they have the brass neck to class themselves as “professions” drivers. 😒

      In Edinburgh you have to attend classes and pass an assessment to get your black cab licence. Black cab drivers are among the worst and most aggressive drivers on Edinburgh's streets suggesting that forcing people to learn and pass assessments does very little to improve behaviour and attitude. If anything, if merely adds to the arrogance of some of these drivers.

    Another good video. Seems like a lot of Taxis are a law unto themselves on the road, not just limited to Merseyside, just doing seriously dangerous overtaking moves to get up the line in heavy traffic is beyond me. Stopping them doing a maneuver because it is your right of way, doesn't warrant road rage (big fines in Germany for gesticulating). Never a traffic cop when one is needed (see the instant Karma videos) in this country - cuts, cuts and cuts. If you become a Taxi driver, to get your taxi plate, you should do a long, long extended driving test, with the emphasis being on road safety and passenger safety (will never happen). And when trucks make mistakes, the consequences are usually devastating (multiple deaths) and the truck driver usually is looking at years behind bars. Just today was overtaken in a 30 zone at a speed camera and I was doing just under 30mph on my speedometer - is it really worth the hassle.

    • @TheFingerman37
      @TheFingerman37 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @intempify Everyone wants perfect drivers, but human nature won't allow. Some of the things I have seen these 'professional' drivers do is beyond reproach - we all have off days, but doing stuff like driving on the wrong side of the road to cut in, jumping red lights, pulling out without looking, tailgating and so on that is highlighted in these videos as well as other dash cam videos is a danger to every user on the road at that time. If your making a living out of driving have a serious and professional outlook to what you do, just like commercial airline pilots have to do to negate risk and prevent accidents.

At least to the Director / Manager of Transport for the company concerned. Although, yes, the driver is leaving themselves open for prosecution, the directors can also be prosecuted for corporate manslaughter so i think they need to know so they can ensure they have adequate CPD in place for their drivers. • @paulybassman7311
    @paulybassman7311 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I does amaze me at the number of people who still cannot leave their phones alone whilst driving. Whether calling, texting, or on the social media thingy. Especially so called 'professional drivers' most cars these days have hands free Bluetooth tided into the stereo system (which takes minutes to set up before starting your journey). Alot have controls on the steering wheel which is brilliant.
    I'm a firm beleiver that when you are driving, that is ALL you should be doing, so if you require a phone whilst driving, the handsfree system enables you to maintain full observation (rotating your head freely) and both hands to maintain full control of the vehicle.
    Now I know some people say that you should not be even speaking handsfree whilst drive as this can be a distraction in itself, however unfortunatley this is the modern world and people need to "get on" . In my opinion the phone conversation is a not even a second priority whilst driving so if you are speaking to somebody handsfree and the driving situation is getting complicated tell the caller to either hang on or call back. It really is not complicated.
