    This is highlights of the Celtic Roundhouse build so far! Once lockdown in the U.K. lifts I’ll head back here to film an epic overnighter with Dustin. Working on a skills video for you guys which is a little different to the norm but I think you will enjoy it! Cheers for watching - Mike

      Lovely looking thing. Me and some friends are also building one in our woods in Staffordshire. Could you share a link of where you get the thatch from? I'm struggling to source it. Cheers and great vid as always.

      I wasn't paying attention at the start so I had no idea what the title was. By the time I looked up you were building the same kind of hut you built last time. I thought "That's very odd" so I did what I should've done from the start and read the title.
      Great job again on how this turned out!

What a tent daddy is building huh !! Here we will go to have cocktails with background music, that will be when the house is ready, the chickens in the corral, the cow resting and someone velando for them. It's Okay, isn't it? How about? I don't know how to get there, Mike has to make me a map that I can go from my house! They say that women do not understand maps, but before ensuring that, you have to make sure that the maps are well done ... !!! But nothing can compare to your nose, right, Jaxx ?? neither with the mine !!! Well, tell dady I don't want any likes anymore. Does not matter. All the likes, for you. Thank you. I ♥️ 🐕.

      Do you remember the guy's name that moved up to Alaska back in the 60or 70s I believe, who moved up there to get away, built this beautiful cabin all by hand by himself and stayed up there until his death awhile back completely living off the land? He had filmed it all with an old Kodak and either he or someone else made a film, probably on public broadcast I remember seeing it.

    • @johnnygeorgopoulos4072
      @johnnygeorgopoulos4072 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Richard Proenneke was his name after I looked it up, recorded it all on 8mm which I had typed but didn't know if was accurate, Twin Lakes Alaska, built the cabin by hand in '67 and lived there for 36yrs, film that he made was named "Alone in the Wilderness". I remember watching it when I was young, I'm 38 or 39 now, I have no idea lol. I'm going to see if it's on TH-cam now... great film if you haven't seen it, I suggest you check it out if you haven't.

    Just ran across your channel, and thus far have not been disappointed, after watching your viking build. Since discovering that I have some scandanavian DNA in me, along with Scotish, Irish, British, and German, I have become more intersted in the Dutch/viking side of my line, coming from my late father. I am an avid watcher of the Old Time Team videos & Programs, and husband and I are supporters of the Current Time Team, so have some knowledge with the dates and the homes that different time periods had. Appreicate the hard work and your builds and videos. Great that some people in todays age can still preserve history and want to make things as did our ancestors did so long ago and keep some of that in present day. Thank you.

    Great video. I’ve always wanted to build one of these. Just one thing I noticed is that you guys cut your wood pegs off flush. But since green wood shrinks as it dries pegged joints can can get really loose and even fall apart. Personally I would make the pegs more tapered & leave them sticking out so you can hammer them in tighter later as needed. This technique is common in historical timber frame construction.

    What most people don't understand is that a properly thatched roof can last 75 years...

    The iron age Celts were VERY lucky. All that soft wood. so easy to work with. Here in Australia , almost ALL our native timber is hard wood, with many being harder than oak. Axes are not much use here,(sigh) Here, your main tool is a saw. Love your video's, by the way. VERY informative and entertaining..

    Fascinating. Thank you. Hours of implement sharpening throughout this build I'd imagine.
