    Can we just take a moment to appreciate just how professional JANG is with his reviews? He gives good disclaimers about his knowledge of the topic surrounding a set, he reviews each set objectively, and the overall quality of all of his videos are so great! Thank you JANG!

      Hahaha especially in cases like at 17:45 that was the greatest thing I could've imagined him saying there. My parents showed me the clip of that years ago. Didn't occur to me when I saw it but when he said it I couldn't have agreed more.

    The vinyl signs around the sets represent riddles which are part of a game, traditionally played during the lunar new year period
    Here's a rough translation of what's on these signs
    First set of Signs: sweet white plum --> yuanxiao/tangyuan, or glutinous rice balls which have sweet fillings (sesame, peanut, red bean)
    Second Set: something that's round sometimes, and curved other times--> the moon
    Third Set: moon horned, eats grass --> a bull/ox

    All red tiles are representing riddles. The long tiles are questions and the short one are answers.That is part of tradition in South China .

  • @idonotexistkh8304
    @idonotexistkh8304 4 ปีที่แล้ว +114

    The banners are actually quizzes or in Chinese, 猜谜语. It is kind of a tradition, where you put the question or clue in front, then the answer behind, which you then hang below a lantern. This is usually done as a game at festivals or gatherings.
    The specific (direct) translations for these from left to right are:
    White sugar lime - Yuan Xiao (the 15th day of the Chinese New Year, celebrated by some groups of Chinese as a big day) (Why is this the answer, it could be because in ancient times, tang yuan 汤圆, a dish for another festival, was called yuan xiao 元宵, the dish was starch balls, stuffed with sugar or other fillings, rolled into the size of a small lime, and served in a sugary soup, hence white sugar lime. Quite the vague connection as virtually no one knows this, even me as a Chinese)
    Sometime round, sometimes curved - Moon (obviously)
    Moon shaped horn, eats grass - Cow/Ox (Year of the Ox)
    edit-answer for quiz 1

    • @jackliu8394
      @jackliu8394 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel the first one could be translated as "White Sugar Plum". The answer for it is Yuan Xiao - the food, not the 15th day of Chinese New Year. The day is Yuan Xiao Festival. The way to make Yuan Xiao is prepare the stuffing first (normally is smashed black sesame with sugar) , dip with water, then roll them into ball shape covered with sticky rice powder. I think it's kind like the plum with sugar covering. Both white, sweet and about the same size.

    Your point about Lego as an escape for adults, especially during hard times, is terrific. It is a wholesome reminder of the joy and simplicity of childhood. So yes, more of this please. Green parks and escapes to nature (*the recent Treehouse Creator set comes to mind) are going to bring in more AFOLS over time. That said, Lego must continue to focus on young children and continue to make excellent sets for the kids... My children enjoy their sets (Jurassic World/Dinos, Mario, Friends, Disney Princess, Star Wars, and Batman/Spider-Man). And as a big bonus, I get to enjoy the Lego Batman and Star Wars sets some too :-)

    The fact that this can easily be connected to the modular buildings just makes me want it even more!

  • @testpeer
    @testpeer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In my opinion, one of the main benefits of this set is the fact that it can be integrated both in a city with modular sized buildings, as well as in cities with LEGO city and/or creator 3 in 1 buildings. This already makes it very usefull, as it does not require hundreds of €/$ to be invested in LEGO for it to look nice. Even so, I do agree on the price, which could have been a bit lower, although the plethora of printed pieces most likely made up an important part of this increase to €109 (Dutch prices) or $120. Considering the alternative of having to place stickers on a lot of transparent pieces, I was willing to pay the premium, although cheaper LEGO is always better.

For example the one in the middle says: sometimes it's rounded and sometimes it's crescent in shape. The piece behind reveals the answer and it's the moon. Hope that help a tiny bit

    Pretty good pronunciation of “Tang Yuan” (湯圓), Jang! I appreciate your genuine appreciation of this cultural vignette.

    As a person who literally has a name that is Pronounced as “koi,” you can imagine how devastated when I found out I could not afford this set.

    Great review, thanks. Surprised that the different shades off blue on the roof wasn’t mentioned, perhaps the lighting made it looks more obvious than it is in real life. Either way it is another set to add to the shopping list.

    I would put food trucks, carnival rides and carnival stuff as well as maybe a concert stage, different carnival games as well as a petting zoo and horse rides and maybe a helicopter ride and maybe a mini concert stage for concerts at the festival

    Wow, that would look great slightly spread out to make a bigger park near a small lake in my city! It's very pretty.

    As much as I love this set I don’t see where lego gets their pricing... I mean for what you get it doesn’t seem worth shelling out $120... it’s beautiful but Lego sets are incredibly expensive for not getting much out of it...

    I was born in the year of the ox/cow so i feel almost obligued to get this. Also, my least favourite thing about large modular sets is how all the details are inside, like you pointed out. This set is entirely open and amazing for display. Want want want!

    cool set! would look amazing down in the melamby district! I bet the lanterns would pop with the lighting down there or you could replace the red heads with for example trans neon heads.

    I am so psyched to get this set! I love the Lunar New Year sets and they are the ones I consistently have out on display. Just need it to be back in stock now 😂

    Price was my issue with the 2020 temple, it's not $120 worth of stuff. Same with this, but I bought it anyways as I was born in the year of the Ox.
    Friends has a $40 park coming out this year. I'm hoping LEGO will make a City one with the new road plates, but it probably be more expensive than this set.
    +1 for saying bonsai correctly.
