  • Mom is relaxing on the nest with the eaglets when she spots something concerning. This is the second time she has left the nest today on high alert. The camera pans and we can see the UME(Unidentified Male Eagle) perched in a nearby tree. We don't know if he is the threat or what Mom saw that concerned her. He certainly could be the cause for her concern but up to this point he hasn't seemed to be a huge threat. He could have been trying to get closer to the nest. We couldn't see, so we just don't know. om returns to the nest vocalizing and remains on alert. Thanks for watching!

    I really think mom can handle the situation. She doesn't need to go far for food and although the parents don't usually eat on the nest, I have seen her do that too so she can be near her eaglets almost non-stop. She may seem tired but she has stamina and thousands of prayers for her and the family. Wish dad would come back to help, but if he doesn't, mom will do everything she can to protect her little ones.

      Grandma S. Yes, I wish Dad would return. But I agree, Mom can handle it. I'm so glad that this didn't happen couple weeks ago would have really been tough, probably would have lost some of the chicks due to cold and snow. Thanks

    Mom is so great, raising three eaglets, hunting for food and provides love and care and any things she has to do she will do with out no hesitates, plus chases intruder away from her territory is a big job to maintain by herself and she manage it. Bless her and her three beautiful eaglets. This eaglets will inherits mom's instinct and follow her abilities to survive in the wild of their own when the time come for her babies adventure in life. Awesome video thank you for sharing.

    I think that UME might have something to do with dad's disappearance so it can take over the nest. I fear for the safety of the eglets and hope UME doesn't harm them . Too many tragedies this season already.

      I have had the privilege of watching Eagles on Norris Lake in Tennessee. One would perch in a tree behind my houseboat. I would watch for hours! If you have never seen them in person, you have not lived!! They are so magnificent and they don’t bother anybody! I so hope and pray Mom survives and her babies!!! Triplets and Dad is gone!! My heart is breaking! I just wish I could help her!!!! ❤️🦅❤️

    After hearing of Dad Decorah's departure from a chatter at the Pittsburgh Hays nest, I decided to visit here a few days ago. After watching several of Chickiedee's videos (which are amazing!) I'm convinced this female is one fierce mama! She is extremely fortunate to have a fish market nearby to provide food for her 3 babies while still protecting them from intruders, but raising even one eaglet to fledge is not an easy task. It does worry me that this new male is hanging around. As someone else mentioned, the Hanover nest just experienced everything bad that can happen, and I sincerely hope a takeover of this nest is not the end result. It's been a very rough season for eagles in general all over this country, but I'm convinced it's nothing new. It's just that we are now able to view inside these nests and see Mother Nature on a day-to-day basis. We just have to be able to accept the good with the bad, which is sometimes not easy to watch. I'm one of those who can't watch the worst of things nor can I listen to this mom cry out for her mate. My heart is breaking for her and I pray Mother Nature gives her a break. Thanks chickiedee to bringing these beautiful creatures into my home!

      JanFromVT thank you so much for the kind words. Earlier today, I was thinking about Dad Decorah and about all the other nests and events that have happened this season. It's certainly been a roller coaster ride. As hard as the tragedies are to take, for me the joys of watching these magnificent creatures from day to day live their lives is still a blessing and has enriched my life for sure. Thanks for watching!

    Nice video - and awesome close-up of the kids. Kudos to the cam op(s). I'm wondering if UME is going to turn out to be like M15... It's so strange about dad's disappearance...hoping he is found soon..and that he is able to be rehabilitated...if needed.

    ...Also...it's my understanding that in the wild when a new male takes over, he destroys any offspring from the previous mate. Pretty sad but the way of the wild. :(

    • @jaeshasway
      @jaeshasway 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Julie Davis Sometimes, but I’ve found that mainly the intruding female do this. Males have taken over and brought food and helped rear other male offspring. If he wants a new mate, he surely had better not kill her offspring or he’d find himself at the short end of a mother’s wrath.

  • @juliedavis7250
    @juliedavis7250 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    ...Quest.: If mating season has past wouldn't Mom concentrate on raising her 3 eaglets rather than acquiring a new mate?

    The good thing is, her food supply is within the site of her nest, so she is never too far away. There is no way she will let anyone near her chicks.

    I think this eagle had something to do with dad's disappearance I say that cause all the nests I watch that's what happens either they fight and one dies or the weaker one is run off when new eagle is hanging around that's what happened happened not long ago in Hanover nest new female run liberty off her eggs and took nest and mate freedom over and ate there eggs liberty came back 2 weeks later but won't stay on nest she's to scared but she visits it I could be wrong here but ........

    In the chat today someone said the UME tried to fly into the nest? Neither of your videos from today showed that, so hoping it was another 'rumor'.

    • @chickiedee64
      @chickiedee64  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nancy W. There was an eagle that tried to fly in at the top of the skywalk, I believe it was yesterday. To my knowledge no other eagles have stepped into the nest or flew into the nest.

      Well she has not really tried chasing him away. I think if she felt he was a threat to the chicks she would have shown more aggression to him.
