The 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser was introduced in 1998, it was refreshed with a 4.7 liter V8 giving it more power, torque and towing capacity than the previous model. It features a body on frame design unlike many of the newer SUVs which gives it a rigid chassis for off roading, modifying and towing.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is known for its reliability, this is exactly what you want if you are off roading or overloading. You do not want to worry about getting stuck 10 miles into the forest with a broken down vehicle.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is a very sought after vehicle for its multi purpose functionality, general reliability and off road capabilities.

Congratulations on your purchase. It is a great vehicle. I owed 3 of them from the FJ80, and two 100 series. One just like yours, and one 105R Diesel, with the ambulance doors, and dual fuel tanks for trips to remote areas. The rear seats in your model are like a third row and face forward. What is referred to as the Japanese model, with the ambulance doors, like my 105R, the third-row seats face each other. On both models, the seats are collapsible onto themselves to give you more storage room in the back.

I had my heart set on an 80 series. but the stronger engine, the better gas mileage, and more room in the 100 series has been making me lean towards that side. not to mention they are taken care of a lot better than most 80s. I'll be doing overlanding instead of heavy rock crawling and all that. any opinions anyone?

Hey, bro. I found a 2000 LC. 182k miles. Owner is asking $8500. I’m going to offer a little less. This will be my wife’s daily driver and our long road trip “adventure” truck. She’s a stay at home mom and doesn’t drive often (not worried about gas mileage). We will be driving light-moderate trails and plan to modify it just a little. We will be driving it for at least 4 years, as we’re saving up for a 200 series. We basically want an off-road capable family vehicle (3 small kids) that’s reliable. Located in the desert.
Do you think that this is a good price for the LC and a good purchase overall? All replies are greatly appreciated.

Joe I replaced the fan clutch last week, it looked original at 233,000 miles.
No issues otherwise, it wasn’t even a part failure. It was still running properly. Just the fan was stuck in the on position, which doesn’t hurt anything aside from MPG.
I would look up the KBB value and see what they are trading hands for.
I would prefer a 2006-2007 for that money due to the extra power, features etc.

The American competition can't even touch the Land Cruiser in terms of dependibility, comfort, etc. As Jake said, these trucks are built to last 25 years in a 3rd world country, so almost all of them are holding up like tanks, and their resale values are validating that claim.

thecarelectronicguy ahh yes! I live in middle East and LC and nissan patrol rule the world's! I 've seen the ones from 1980s still passing the test and are running on the roads! I was just curious as to why it dosent sell well in usa. Toyota's biggest lc market is MENA region btw. Recently saw a tahoe and wanted to know how it compares to LC 😊

It doesn't sell very well because of the price. Nowadays most people can't see the value in spending $85k on a Toyota because Toyotas "aren't cool" Recently, I've seen far more Range Rovers on the road than Land Cruisers and Lexus LXs. This is the unfortunate result of people buying something simply to brag to their friends about the brand name, not because it's actually the better car, and the resale values of all of these cars tend to reflect that statement.

thecarelectronicguy Ahh ofcourse the ranger rover. They were good before tata bought them, for on road use they're the best but take them to the desert and you 'll find out that they don't even hold a candle against the land cruiser. I 've never seen a range rover been taken to the desert here as opposed to tons of lx570s and both are similarly priced. The air conditioning system in toyota and Lexus is the best for the middle East. Just take the Lexus and the range rover for a test drive in the summer here! You 'll u understand. The Lexus has around 16 a.c. vents. The maintenance cost of the range rover is much more than Lexus and all this for similar comfort levels. On road range rover is better but off road lexus/LC is the king.

There is an enormous difference between the 92 FJ80 and the 2000 FJ100 in this video. The 92 had a 4 liter straight six engine that is seriously under powered and not very refined. Do some research.

Trust me.. the more money people have, the less they worry about maintenance. Your reasoning about them getting better maintenance because the owners were doctors and lawyers is not really true. I work at a Toyota dealership and Land Cruisers are just as prone to be neglected as the little Yaris or Corolla. But yes, these vehicles are awesome, can take a lot of abuse, and keep going. Just be sure to get the vehicle checked out completely and change all fluids asap once you own it

Folks, one of the greatest SUVs ever made. Unfortunately in 2022......Base price with any mileage will be $10K minimum. Easily.

heavy and slow... Easy test. Take to the beach in Daytona and get ready for it to bog down in the sand. Maybe the Subaru, jeep, and 4runner drivers will help pull you out.

No one in US who makes $250k buys a Toyota. They go for Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Masaratti, Tesla, etc.
