I' m in London, UK. Have a 1998 Landcruiser Amazon with a 4.2 Turbo Diesel and auto box. I have had it for 4 years with only 150,000mls. A beautiful vehicle and I get around 32mpg with careful driving. Recommended.
When you floored it your mileage dropped to about 2 mpg. :) I have a 2002 Land Cruiser and I love the visibility and how you look down on the hood. Newer vehicles you sit so low you don't even see the hood.
I had my heart set on an 80 series. but the stronger engine, the better gas mileage, and more room in the 100 series has been making me lean towards that side. not to mention they are taken care of a lot better than most 80s. I'll be doing overlanding instead of heavy rock crawling and all that. any opinions anyone?
As an 80 100 and now 200 series owner, I can tell you the 100 series is the way to go. If you do go with the 80 series....1994 and and above. You’ll need the extra power for rock crawling.
Congratulations on your purchase. It is a great vehicle. I owed 3 of them from the FJ80, and two 100 series. One just like yours, and one 105R Diesel, with the ambulance doors, and dual fuel tanks for trips to remote areas. The rear seats in your model are like a third row and face forward. What is referred to as the Japanese model, with the ambulance doors, like my 105R, the third-row seats face each other. On both models, the seats are collapsible onto themselves to give you more storage room in the back.
I paid less than $8000 for my 09 sienna limited with 93k miles and it gets around 17 mpg combined, it actually looks alot like that land cruiser, the seats, steering wheel, etc and probably has more interior space and everything is cheaper to repair or replace ... just can't do heavy off roading in it ... 15 cup holders, I don't think you can beat that!
Joe I replaced the fan clutch last week, it looked original at 233,000 miles. No issues otherwise, it wasn’t even a part failure. It was still running properly. Just the fan was stuck in the on position, which doesn’t hurt anything aside from MPG. I would look up the KBB value and see what they are trading hands for. I would prefer a 2006-2007 for that money due to the extra power, features etc.
Possibly getting a 2000 land cruiser tomorrow morning ( Halloween day lol ) has some cosmetic issues but for $1500 Hopefully there is nothing that will make me no. Will be my second land cruiser bought my 94 80 series for $2300 & it was triple locked with 149 miles, but sadly I sold that one ☹️...
Looks like it's in a great condition .... my mind is set on getting one in the UK ... cant wait to be ready and find a good 100 series landcruiser!! I'm in between getting a petrol/LPG or a Diesel depending on price/condition... any advice is greatly appreciated
Hey, bro. I found a 2000 LC. 182k miles. Owner is asking $8500. I’m going to offer a little less. This will be my wife’s daily driver and our long road trip “adventure” truck. She’s a stay at home mom and doesn’t drive often (not worried about gas mileage). We will be driving light-moderate trails and plan to modify it just a little. We will be driving it for at least 4 years, as we’re saving up for a 200 series. We basically want an off-road capable family vehicle (3 small kids) that’s reliable. Located in the desert. Do you think that this is a good price for the LC and a good purchase overall? All replies are greatly appreciated.
The American competition can't even touch the Land Cruiser in terms of dependibility, comfort, etc. As Jake said, these trucks are built to last 25 years in a 3rd world country, so almost all of them are holding up like tanks, and their resale values are validating that claim.
thecarelectronicguy ahh yes! I live in middle East and LC and nissan patrol rule the world's! I 've seen the ones from 1980s still passing the test and are running on the roads! I was just curious as to why it dosent sell well in usa. Toyota's biggest lc market is MENA region btw. Recently saw a tahoe and wanted to know how it compares to LC 😊
It doesn't sell very well because of the price. Nowadays most people can't see the value in spending $85k on a Toyota because Toyotas "aren't cool" Recently, I've seen far more Range Rovers on the road than Land Cruisers and Lexus LXs. This is the unfortunate result of people buying something simply to brag to their friends about the brand name, not because it's actually the better car, and the resale values of all of these cars tend to reflect that statement.
thecarelectronicguy Ahh ofcourse the ranger rover. They were good before tata bought them, for on road use they're the best but take them to the desert and you 'll find out that they don't even hold a candle against the land cruiser. I 've never seen a range rover been taken to the desert here as opposed to tons of lx570s and both are similarly priced. The air conditioning system in toyota and Lexus is the best for the middle East. Just take the Lexus and the range rover for a test drive in the summer here! You 'll u understand. The Lexus has around 16 a.c. vents. The maintenance cost of the range rover is much more than Lexus and all this for similar comfort levels. On road range rover is better but off road lexus/LC is the king.
Any expensive issues to look out for? I have a 3rd gen 4runner no issues. That thing is unstoppable. Did the timing belt water pump all diff fluids transmission drain and fill. Mini lift with bilsteins 5100 front adjustable and rear ome 2906 springs about 2.5 inch lift. I averaged 22.6 mpg coming home from Moab. How is the mpg on these breasts? I've heard its really bad.
Trust me.. the more money people have, the less they worry about maintenance. Your reasoning about them getting better maintenance because the owners were doctors and lawyers is not really true. I work at a Toyota dealership and Land Cruisers are just as prone to be neglected as the little Yaris or Corolla. But yes, these vehicles are awesome, can take a lot of abuse, and keep going. Just be sure to get the vehicle checked out completely and change all fluids asap once you own it
@@JakeTiesler ahh man, sad to hear. I have my eye on a 2000 now, im still debating it though. I have a 2wd single cab silverado, and a pain in the butt, yet fun BMW, i just need something 4wd and with some room

So true! Love the seating position, like a king
Vents on the back are for releiving cabin preassure from a/c and door's closing

Thanks - I’m looking at 2001 with 293K miles.
Great Land Cruiser. I had a 1999. With. 325000 miles with just basic maintenance.
The vents on the side of the car is for equalizing the pressure in the cabin when you open and close the doors.
Got a 2000 land cruiser with 94k miles for 15k, amazing vehicles
Looking at an 06 with 188,000 miles for 16.... What you think?
The vents are sort of a relief for when you shut the doors with the windows up. Eliminates that ear thing that happens
Just bought a 2013 200 series... amazing vehicle with unmatched build quality!!! You'll easily get another 150k+ miles out of it.
I've been driving the crap out of it, it's so reliable and fun! Congrats and enjoy!
Same here! Need to calm down a bit as I'm finding excuses to get on the road haha... it was tough choosing between the 100 and 200.
Yeah the 200s are almost double the price of the 100s, I got mine for 7k or I wouldn't have gotten it.

I am hesitating between the gasoline and diesel version. what kind of fuel burn for your v8?
How about and update? Still running sound? Any expensive repairs? What kind of real world MPG have you seen with freeway driving?
