The designer of the Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car died this year. He was Marcelo Gandini and I actually started working on this diecast model of his work the day before he passed. I'm a bit delayed in putting it out, but this video serves as a tribute to the legendary designer.
The Alfa Romeo Carabo was unveiled at the 1968 Turin Motor Show and was one of six cars to be based on the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. Only 18 Stradales were built and five chassis were used on concept cars. The Carabo was the first car to have scissor doors fitted and set a style precedent for years to come with its iconic wedge shape. It pre-dated Gandini's later wedge shaped works including the Lancia Stratos Zero and the Lamborghini Countach. He would of course go on to design some truly iconic cars, but the Carabo was very much a turning point.
Matchbox weren't alone in creating a 1/64 scale diecast Carabo. Corgi also added one to their Rockets and later Juniors ranges, with the Juniors car also sporting the same pink and yellow livery as the Superfast car. Lesney would keep the Carabo in production for five years between 1971 and 1976, though it would never replicate the iridescent green colour of the concept.

Excellent colour match ! I have painted one of these in Tamiya metallic green (ts 20) and it looks pretty good, will post pics online when I get it finished!

Man that’s a nice restoration! I love those Siku’s from this 70s and 80s era with metal base and stamped details in the body and base (engine specs etc). This era is definitely the best imo - maybe because I was a kid in the 80s. Later Siku’s lacked quality and are still lacking that same quality feel like in the 70s and 80s (this also applies to Majorette. They also were far better in the 70s and 80s). Although construction and farming models from Siku appear to be far more better in quality than the rest of Siku cars

A set of more authentic lower profile wheels and tires would really set this off and give a more scale appearance.
Matchbox were funny, they made a lot of low production supercars and concept cars that no one in the 70s or 80s had really seen. Sone like this one are really hard to find on the internet!
Their appearance were often let down by the stock wheels.
I have a Corgi version of the Alfa Carabo, and been repainting it a few months ago but paused due to life stuff. Thinking to make it be a bit more than just stock
A beautiful restoration is always there Jason me myself I would have painted the green that it was when it first came out not the ugly pink that Lesney put on it keep up the good work have a good one and God bless my friend

A stunning car in a typical lairy colour scheme of a1970s Matchbox.
The Matchbox model is certainly nicer than the Corgi version thanks to its wheels.

Why? Just restoring something in such ugly colour when having the chance of having a much more interesting video doing a restomod with mire realistic colours?!

You misunderstand - you said that the colour was ugly but I disagree, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. More than happy to take constructive criticism but I did ask in the video if people would like to see a green coloured restomod. Thanks for commenting though 👍🏻
@@DieCastRestos ok i might havent explained my opinion properly. Its not that the colour is ugly but i think its more pleasent to opt for a more realistic job.
But again its not that you habe done a bad job ,you didnt. Its just that im MY opinion i just like to see the models with a real world look ( normal colors,the small dettails done like lights ,door handles etc)
