Eight time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb added X Games gold to his bulging collection of trophies after a runaway victory in the rally cross final of the X Games. But he was robbed of the chance to race Travis Pastrana after a collision in qualifying left the extreme sports legend a spectator.

Yes, an egomaniac, but he has done some pretty impressive things, as a starter, he was Ricky Carmichael's main rival in the beginning of rheir careers, and he does make a substantial amount of money having fun and doing crazy things, he is an entity.
I disagree, Pastrana is just a dude who likes to have fun. However, there is no denying Loeb is the real deal here
Dude he literally said Loeb is the best driver on the planet. Pastrana is a good guy who supports and brings people up. Have you seen how he helps moto x riders by letting them use his compound to train? He is a class act

yes, indeed, Travis is a great allrounder in a lot of motorsports, but Loeb is the best of the best in rallying, without a doubt.
"Rookie" of X Games, but he's the most decorated and experienced rally driver of that lot. That's like a Tiger racing with kittens.

Pestrana made a point about being smart...he really was very smart to crash, so his image wouldn't be SMASHED by Loeb, as obviously it would happen. Very cleaver guy...otherwise he had taken a chance in WRC like Block did but he knows he would loose the image he has now.

Block is a rally driver, regardless of your personal definition. Like I said, nobody was expecting him to win. Only his haters set such high targets. Also, nobody compares Block to Loeb. I only ever see haters doing that. I only ever see haters say things like "His fans think he's the best driver in the world" when they don't. Block is a very good driver, but nowhere near the best, which is Loeb. Haters make it up as they go along so that they can keep on hating. It's very simple.
Yes heart and will is important. And Loeb is full of it. Rally is his life and he travels the world racing the best drivers in the world. Just because he is serious doesn't mean he doesn't love every second of what he is doing. You say that the Sub and fords just slide around. Ever think that it is partially the best driver in the world controlling and driving his car in the best way possible. Of course Block and Pastrana for example are sliding everywhere! All of these cars are beasts.
Don't forget that Loeb just won Pikes Peak and set a huge record, he won xgames (doing rallycross for the first time) too and set a lap record, trying a F1 Redbull car ;) I'm sure that Loeb is the best driver on earth today. He is going to do wtcc and I'm that he will won everything, this guy is completly unbeatable
propably all top 5-10 WRC drivers would win this, and its not something new for them, the prologues in WRC are similar to this, for Loeb that was like driveing vs kids totaly :)
Great win by Loeb & not unexpected from the greatest driver the WRC has ever seen.I would just like to say that some of the comments here towards the other compeditors is not very sport like.In my view the US based drivers are at a disadvantage because the WRC like cars are mostly EU based & developed.I would also say the Ken Block is a real influence in WRC exposure to the US.Maybe down the road from here he will influence a US Loeb in the future.I think he is a great embassador for the sport.

Not arguing his ability or talent. I would go so far as to say he is probably the greatest rally driver in history. I suppose every good race car driver is arrogant, part of the gig. For what it's worth, I was on the side of the Pikes Peak highway cheering him on when he broke the record last month, and I am very happy I was there to see it and got an autograph from the man.
Loeb was on the right because he made the pole , that's all.
After , it's easy if he makes a good start.

They knew they had 80% chance of winning. Pastrana and all pilots knew that.
WRC cars are about 300 hp since about 20 years because 500 hp motors killed many pilots. WRC is on real road, with trees , ravine... Of course top 10 Rallye pilots are BIG professionnal.
It is not a problem for any factory to have a 500 hp with about same turbo engine.

Experience counts for A LOT in WRC. Drivers who know the stages will always be faster than drivers who don't, and drivers with factory cars will always be at the front. Ken doesn't have much WRC experience and doesn't have a factory car, plus he started rallying in his mid-30's and is now in his mid-40's. Nobody was expecting him to get top 5's except for his haters, who set ridiculous standards for him so they could hate when he failed. He's VERY good for someone who started so late in life.

This series may just be the foundation for an entirely new audience in 4 wheel motorsport in the US, and that will just bring in more talent. Finally, what makes you think a sport like F1 wasn't a show way back in the day? That's how it started. It was a way for rich men to compete for fun. It wasn't for everyone (including some of the best drivers), but over time, it evolved and became a huge phenomenon. Just like the evolution of F1, the evolution of US rally, drift, etc. may be coming.

Yes he is a monster at everything he drives and a 9 time world champion in WRC but that was his first time doing rallycross. You clearly misinterpreted the commentator and my comment.
its the same thing just a shorter format, there ain't a thing different to what he does and what drifters try to do, you could call rally X a super circuit........... you have to see the big picture.....it's the same thing but what makes it different is they are all crammed in on the same track other than that what is the difference and i never misinterpret a thing, it's rally driving full stop.
+Mita Walters By your logic then nobody deserves to be called rookie even if they're moving from a previous category/series then because they've simply doing the same thing like GP2/Lower open series to F1. It's still circuit racing but only in faster cars and more downforce.
I guess you also didn't like it when Loeb started Dakar last year either or when he started touring car racing in GT3/WTCC and got called a rookie, going again by your logic it's basically rally driving again as Dakar is just rallying in harsher environments, longer distances and in a bigger vehicle and touring car racing is basically the same as to driving in tarmac rally except it's with other cars crammed in a circuit.
Rookie simply means new to a new category of sport or new sport. Simple mate. I could list couple of world class drivers who've been called a rookie simply because they've moved to a new sport and like Loeb did well.

what just happened to travis, happened to me in Dirt3 online. Extremely frustrating when people don't brake into a corner and take you out.
Loeb made a complete mockery of the stunt drivers, despite only being a rookie, albeit with factory support. Showing the class required to dominate the WRC for a decade

this two american gentlemen Block and Pastrana are creating illusion that they can beat Loeb,if wasn't for the redbull sponsorship I don't think loeb will take it this two guys from america there just only for the money not for being a true champion by heart.

If Loeb had had a chance to race in F1 for Red Bull, I am absolutely certain he would have done really well.
He did some testing and (if i recall correctly) he even had better times than some f1 drivers, but then wasn't granted the license

Being from USA I have to listen to WRC on the radio at like 2 or 3 am. Was very happy to watch X games (lol for once) only to watch Loeb come to the US and race Rallycross (lol what crap, USA and lap bs) and just work them fools! I watched it live, anybody else see Block run into Loeb because everybody jump started...and Foust did again!!!!...but they said fuck it let them go haha, Loeb the man, the champ, the myth in the USA because nobody knew who he was! (sry to those who did you rock!)
No doubt he would win this. He does work, and has been for years and years. If I was there I would be yelling to him to show American rally drivers what world class rally is all about. I'm American btw.

That's the sound of the dump-valve. It's release air surpressure between the turbo and the throttle valve (at deceleration) to prevent turbo lag and for engine reliability.

Travis pastrana did race in WRC a few times, for example in the ARGENTINA RALLY thats is one of the stages of WRC CHAMPIONSHIP. Not even close to WRC drivers.! But he´s modest and respects the real pros!

Rally cross has been around ALOT longer in the UK than it has in the US.
Just to clarify, this is not the car that Loeb is glued to the road, but that loeb driver not to make the car drift and waste time. You speak without knowing, watching a rally of him and you will better understand his driving. The principle is not to derive the car and always make small corrections of trajectories, to put the car online and get the most power to the ground.
I used to watch Aussie v8's when I lived there.. Unfortunately moved to the US and racing coverage lacks significantly :( If you know of any websites where I can watch live coverage, let me know!
Block and Pastrana are reasons why Rally is not taken seriously in America. They're fucken joke!
In USA rally racing is lumped into same category as FMX and Drifting, rather than being taken as a real authentic motorsport.
