Hands down, the best tutorial on this Amp. I picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago and I'm still trying to learn how to use it. This video has helped a lot. Thank you very much. I'm have mine hooked up via the phone jack out to a Yamaha Ci1 usb audio interface to my Asus i7 laptop. Sounds awesome. I did try the Vypyr's usb directly to my laptop but there was dalay. I know you can update the amp but haven't messed with it. At almsot 61 years of age, I'm relving my youth. Lol.
I had this amp for six months then it started to scream loudly even if the volume knob was all the way down and nothing plugged into it..called tech support and they had me do a factory reset (which is by holding the a and b instrument options) it worked it self out and is finally back to normal...so glad I didn't have to buy a new amp
Thank you so much. I am a handy capped brain cancer survivor, and have a mental disability. This helps so much. P.s. I'm disabled but can still shred some guitar.
Thanks so much for taking the time to put together an easy-to-understand explanation of the controls. Unless you've spent years tinkering with synthesizers, the signal flow of this amp is fairly counter-intuitive. I am going to take your advice and use the software to manipulate the controls. You're a very generous man. The world needs more like you!
Yes, this is a very helpful video. I think the message is don't panic - it is logical, it just takes a little while to figure out what is going on and your video certainly helped with that. Thanks for posting it!
WOW! I just bought the Vypr VIP 1 and I am so pleased with it. It is AMAZING for $149. I actually got mine on sale for $129 and , while very convoluted in its editing, its fantastic!
There is an option to take the C&D banks of presets which are 8 total presets and make them additional guitar presets instead of for a bass or Acoustic. This gives you 16 total presets which is outstanding for different options for the guitar. It explains how to do this in the manual.
Fantastic video really needed help because I hate reading because I cant retain information when read. Totally saved me thank you for posting this you are my hero.
Good video. It took me a while to figure out I didn't need to use so many effects and simplify the settings for using only 2 or 3 effects for better, more realistic tones.
Hi! Just hold down A until the light blinks, then press A again and it will save it in that slot. Remember there are 4 banks A B C D and 4 presets in each, so you can save it to any one of them
For future reference, you can almost always download a pdf of a given user's manual. This is true of pretty much all vendors. And pdf manuals rock because they are searchable.
Great video! I was able to figure out a lot of the features in the store before I bought it (VIP 1). When I got home and read the manual, it explained the parameters for the effects, so if you can't figure out what a knob does, I recommend re-reading the manual.
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you thank you Thank you Thank you. Now I can be happy again and pick myself out of my suicidal depression.
+Sound Theory Studio i want to thank you again, genuine and sincerely, for unlocking the mystery of the Vypyr VIP2 for me. I am by no means the master of course, but at least I have hope, and am not afraid of it. It actually is too much of an amp for me! You did a perfect job of opening it up for me.
+Tim Warner Hey no problem! Its not real clear how to use it at first, I know when I got it I had to play around with it for a while before I had it all figured out. Truthfully I don't use half of the features on it, I typically bypass the effects and just use one of the amp emulations and get a great tone out of it. Nice to have all those options though just in case you want to play with them. Have fun!
Hi Mark , great review - good amount of detail too - as I 'm looking at "This kind of amp " and had looked over the Marshall Code 25 - how ever your Peavey Vyper VIP has made up my mind - particularly as I own a 5150 mkII . Love the tutorial on the software as well . You come across very well with a good attention to detail . I've now subscribed and will look forward to other video's you post . all the best .
Thanks for the kind words I really appreciate it and I'm really glad you like the videos! I feel bad I haven't done a video in a while, just been really busy with students and it's hard to find time. The VIP series is a great amp and if you like your 5150 I feel confident you'll enjoy the Vypyr VIP as well. The only problem with it is a lot of people report the knobs starting to fail after a couple years... I just happened to me as well and I had to get rid of mine. Hopefully this has been corrected in newer models but I really don't know. In any case, good luck and aside from that issue it's the best amp for the money in my opinion.
I bought this amp because I was just getting back into playing guitar again. Wanted something that had the basic effects....distortion, reverb, delay, etc. But now I've got an effects pod and I just want it to do a basic clean sound and not sure how.
Awesome thank you ! Have no computer for software. Trying to find out more about the looper button? Saw how to plug a stomp box in to start and stop rec. Isn't a looper built into the amp???
@@gailrooney2776 Well there are two reasons you'll see a mic in front of an amp. One is to record it, in which case the mic is attached to some recording equipment like a computer. The other reason is to further amplify the amp for large venues, in which case the mic is attached to a soundboard which then sends the signal to massive venue speakers (called the P.A.) so a large crowd can hear it. Hope that helps!
UPDATE - Just plug in and use the Peavey software and its easy as pie. Has nice pictures of each effect pedal and amp. Control the knobs with your mouse and rock on.
I picked up the original Vyper in this wattage range because I liked the clean chorus preset. That amp was very glitchy and would not work at all when bringing it from cold weather to a warm interior until it warmed up itself. It would lose signal randomly at other times also. I liked the options and the normal electric guitar tones but I finally traded it in for this one and it’s is much better! Great tones as long as you don’t try the 12 string which sounds wretched bad! Over all I like this amp better all the time but I would not use it for a gig because it does still glitch occasionally.
That's really strange about the glitching out, must be some weird issue with the circuit board inside? I can only guess, but I've never seen that happen before. Hopefully it stops doing that or you can get one that works better!
Nice review - thank you and this does help! I would actually love to see a longer version of this tutorial as this is a good starter but it only gets you so far. Not complaining, but actually complimenting you and hoping you'll create an even more extensive version of this because it was very good!
Hey man thanks so much for the vids, only good ones about this amp on TH-cam and so so helpful.I plan on buying this amp but right now I have line 6 iv 30watt and a Jackson js32t rhoads but the high strings sound terrible so shreaky.Soloing sounds awful. My question though do you think its the guitar or the amp? Thanks in advance
Thanks, Tim. I am looking into this amp and this is the second video I have seen that the clean sound seems compressed. Are you using compression, does the amp sound like that, or is this an artifact of the recording process? I am looking at the amp especially because the Master volume seems to allow you to play at a VERY low volume and still get the effects you want (any simpler amps in this class that have that ability?). I don't care about the modeling because I have a Variax and a multi effects/modeling board and some discrete pedals. That said, this amp is extremely confusing. I would be lost trying to set it up w/o the software. Luckily, I am familiar with the Line 6 Workbench and the Digitech modeling software packages, so it would probably be an easy transition. The Peavey software looks easy enough. I have owned numerous Peavey amps over the last 35 years and have always found them to be dependable and great values.
NickyT hey Marc here, so there is a little compression in the video for our voices so the amp is slightly compressed, however I’ll tell you it doesn’t sound that way in person and for clean tones is not a very good amp. It excels amazingly with distorted tones though. It also sounds great at very low volume so I think you would like that. If a nice clean channel is really important to you though you may want to consider another amp, possibly an Orange practice amp? The clean on those impressed me
Thanks, Marc. Orange is probably way out of my price range! That is an important piece of info, I don't want distortion. But the Peavey amps have always had good distortion, even before trans-tubes. The "saturation" amps had the best tone for a solid state amp in their day. If I wanted distortion, I'd like a Valve King.
How do you get rid of the fain but irritating high pitched squeal? The one that only goes away when you go to tuner mode. I've heard maybe replacing the voltage regulator or power supply. Peavey said it was normal.
@@Corrupt-R Peavey tech support said all VIP 1s make do that. It's very high frequency, probably 6khz or higher. I'm not the only one, mentioned many times in the Peavey forum. My guess is people with hearing that isn't great in the high frequency range don't hear it.
how quiet can i make this amp? i really need somthing that will be very low volume>? and if i amp still to loud even at volume zero or 1 how can i go about setting it up with the post gain to tone down the volume >>? can you help me out?
@@Corrupt-R alright cool cuz im living with my folks and i dont wanna cuz a huge fight over this amp being retardedly loud if i order one online. thanks for your imput bro
Hi Mark , thank you for the reply - can I ask you if there is speaker cab modelling options in the Viper VIP ? or when you select the 6505+ as an example - it defaults to a modelled 4 x 12 sound ? or does it just utilise the characteristics of the speaker the amp is loaded with ? .... I think I 'm going to haver to take a punt and order one on line , as there doesn't seem to be many stockists here in the U.K - so trying to get as much info as I can .
Hey Richard sorry I didn't respond earlier. It sounds to me like it is emulating a 4x12 kind of sound by default because it sounds pretty huge and full. However speaker cabinet emulation is not an option on this amp so "it is what it is" as they say. I think you'll be impressed with the tone though, I'm yet to find anything that sounds better in the price range
I just took delivery of a Peavey Vypyr VIP and the Sanpera 2 mk2 footswitch/vol/expr pedal controller. Your video has been very helpful in removing some of my frustration. Any chance you can do a similar tutorial for the Sanpera 2 if you happen to have one? It is as unintuitive as the VIP itself unfortunately. I'm sure others would benefit as well, particularly, I'm not having success getting the expression pedal to behave as a wah for the life of me. Fortunately I have a Morley wah to work with in the meantime, but it's one more thing in my effects chain and really, it's in the wrong part of the chain. Lastly, have you considered doing the effects loop mod for the Vypyr, or no anyone that has? I have a Boss RC-3 Loop Station I'd like to use with it, and that will not be very effective without the ability to put it in an effects loop. Same for my MXR 10 band EQ. Thanks again. This vid and a couple of your covers convinced me to subscribe.
Hey thanks for watching and for the compliments I really appreciate it, and thank you for subscribing that always really helps! Sadly I do not own a Sanpera pedal or I would be happy to help. I also am not familiar with the effects loop mod you mentioned. I'm not surprised to hear that the Sanpera is just as confusing, Peavey could really use some work in streamlining their devices to make them more user friendly. For what it's worth here is a link to a discussion about the Wah not working on the Peavey forum and a link to a video showing how to adjust it. Maybe this will help! www.peavey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41479
I found the amp to be very simple and easy for me to understand. Because this amp does so much, in 1 unit, it's the best for me. I love these amps! I don't know how to use the ("looper") effect, that's the only thing I don't know how to use. Everything else, I figured out in a day just playing with it.
I can't use the 6505 red distortion setting without getting an extremely loud high pitched screech that hurts my ears. Around 1.5 master and 10:00 on post-gain. Not even that loud of the amp, but the screech is awful. (VIP 1)
I would roll back the post gain to around 4 or 5 and turn up the master, that may help. Also most amps really start to feedback when the volume and the pre gain are both set high. As you increase the master volume, take away some of the pre gain to lessen the feedback. Hope that helps!
Hello! If you mean that the indicator point doesnt move when you turn the knob, sadly this is a pretty common problem that I found out about later after the review. I would try to air gun the knobs as best you can to get rid of any possible dust. If you could get inside it you could possibly use some Deoxit spray and see if that helps, though that could be quite a pain. Before you try those things though make sure you are in the right edit mode and try a factory reset as well. To do this hold down the A and B buttons when you turn it on, hold them until everything stops flashing then let go. See if that helps!
@@Corrupt-R yes that i mean, everything about factory firmware update it was up to date for latest update, but doesn't work and still doesn't move. last choice i will spray contact cleaner but still doesn't work, i try ask to peavey distributor but they not respond, i love this combo amp, and now all control i running and always connected with vypyr editor on desktop PC.
Click on the effect knob, and the look at the bottom names for the EQ/GAIN knobs, if your effect knob LED is flashing then you can use the EQ/GAIN knobs to turn the reverb level all the way down.
Please tell me how to turn this tap temp off so everything stops sounding like an echo. It’s not fun on every song and it is driving me crazy. So far, I’ve just been setting it really fast so you can’t hear it as much. Now I just wanna rip its guts out. Lol
Thinking of buying one of these apps but I also have a keyboard and nobody mentions how it would be with a keyboard and there again what would be the settings
For a keyboard you typically want something like an FRFR Speaker (Flat Range Flat Response). These are usually monitor type speakers that reproduce the sound without adding any additional characteristics to the EQ curve or tone. Guitar amps almost always add those characteristics to give the guitar tone more personality, but doesn't always translate well to something like a keyboard. With that said, you could absolutely use this amp for a keyboard so long as you set it to a very "clean" setting. The Vypyr happens to have an "acoustic" amp setting as an option which might work pretty well. Just don't expect it to sound quite as good as a true monitor speaker meant for keyboards.
I'm not sure how to connect it to a computer, all the information I found told me to buy a MIDI to USB cable, but there is nowhere on the amp to plug it in.
Where directly in the video do you talk about the presets and how to save them? I already know what presets are specifically, I'm just having problems saving them and I'm unsure how to at all.
Pearl Istt once you have a preset you like hold down the A B C or D button until the lights start blinking, then hit the button again. It will save to whichever button you assign it to
(Help) I recently just got this amp, 2 days ago at a pawn shop for really cheap, didn’t think it would work but it does! I watched this video to help me get familiar but I was having some issues with the amp that I didn’t see in this video. When I try to change the pre gain and the post gain I can’t change the knobs to increase or decrease it. Any help with that? Thank you!
That sounds like maybe the knobs don’t work which is definitely an issue, I can’t think of any other reason they wouldn’t work. You may have to return it if possible!
Can anyone please tell me how to factory reset my VIP 2? I hold down A and B when turning the amp on. The lights go nuts and don't stop and I have no clue what do from there. I get all this static and feedback when I'm plugged in. The electronics in my guitar are fine. If I put some pressure on the cable connected to the amp the static diminishes slightly but not much. What is going on!?
@@MeyersTJ1 But if you continue to hold the buttons in does it ever stop? From what I read you have to keep holding the buttons in until it stops. It didn't say how long it takes but I wouldn't think more than 10 seconds. If that doesn't work then I think there's a real issue with it unfortunately
@@Corrupt-R i tried holding it down for about 2 minutes. It never stops. Im thinking that the issues is with the cable input connection in the amp because I've tried about 10 different cables and its all the same. The static buzzing feedback just doesn't stop.
@@MeyersTJ1 You know now that you mention it, don't all the lights start flashing when there is no cable plugged in? I think you're right the input jack could be shot which would make it think there's no cable in it even when there is. I don't know how hard these things are to work on, but a new input jack is a relatively easy fix most of the time. Might be worth a shot
If you mean the flashing tap tempo light, as far as I know it is ALWAYS on and flashing no matter what you do, however it only affects the sound if you have Delay (or other compatible effect) enabled. If the light bothers you I would recommend tapping out a very slow rhythm on it, at least then the light will only flash occasionally. Hope that helps!
Hmmm well it won't sound exactly like them but I'd start with the 6505 setting. I believe a Mesa Recto would be a little more like what they would sound like, which this amp doesn't emulate. However a 6505 with treble around 5 or 6, mids around 4, and bass around 6 should be a good place to start. At that point I'd put on a Rammstein song and adjust by ear until you get as close as you can. Let me know how it turns out!
The main question I have, and I'm hoping someone can answer this for me... is there any way to stack the effects on this amp and set up a simulated pedal chain?
Young Frankenstein to the best of my knowledge the answer is no, however you can add one effect from each knob so potentially you could have 3 or 4 going at once including reverb and delay. For stomp boxes though it’s going to be limited to one from each knob or category as far as I know
@@Corrupt-R That is _exactly_ what I needed to know. I bought a Fender Champion 100 to dink around with in my music room, but you can literally only put the knob on one effect and you have to turn that one off to spin it to another one. Glad it was cheap. Looks good on a shelf and sounds good clean, so I'll leave it at that. I'm still torn between this one and the Blackstar ID 30, though. For a few dollars more I already know the Blackstar software pretty well and running everything from a tablet plugged in is pretty easy. On the other hand, the $200 I save is a whole box of Paradigms with change left over. First world problems, yay!
Yeah i can’t think of a practice size amp with full pedal chain capability, you’d probably have to turn to a multi effects floor pedal like a line 6 helix or something similar. I could be wrong though, lots of amps out there! Thanks for the sub!
Yeah I can't argue with you there, I'm glad the video was helpful! I think part of what makes it difficult is almost everything on the knobs is abbreviated and it's hard to tell what it's supposed to mean at first. In any case, once you get used to it it's pretty easy, but at first glance it's very confusing!
Mason Joines I don't see why not! If you set the amp to a nice clean tone it should work fine, however the amp has great distortion tones so not sure you would even need the pedal
TN The Governor post gain should be mostly to set the volume for each individual patch, pre gain shouldn’t raise the volume much but more just add additional gain / distortion.
You can turn down the post gain for the patches you use and save it, but the easiest way would be to have the master volume set at zero before you power it on and then turn it up slowly from there :)
Sorry for the late reply somehow I missed your comment! I would get a monitor speaker for drums, it will have a flat response that gives a much more accurate representation of the drum sound than a guitar amp would. The guitar amp, even on the cleanest setting possible, would color the sound I think.
Sorry for the very late response! I think the closest you would get would be the classic amp setting with gain turned down. Should give a pretty flat clear tone. I dont think there is a setting that will just give you a flat signal though
Marc Miller Guitar I figured it out. I had to press the bypass then turn the delay and reverb down. It was so annoying. Got a steal on it. 140 2 weeks old. Guy didn’t like it. I’m going to use it instead of my big amps for at home jamming.
Joe mama good question! So just recently I sold this amp to a student and am using a tube amp to practice on instead, so I don’t have one to test with. However I’m not sure it’s possible to have it start up on a specific setting, unless it just starts on the same setting as when you last turned it off?
yea, ur rite brother but I figured out that u have to turn demo mode off before u can have that happen. I use fender tube amps too but they don't do my acoustic much justice. I cant believe how decent that little peavey sounds! @@Corrupt-R
Once you create a new patch that you like press and hold the instrument type button all the way on the left (A B C or D). After you hold it long enough it starts blinking, if I remember right then you push the same button again to save it there.
Great video. Unfortunately, this is too much to figure out for this beginner. lol. I just want a decent amp with built in effects to avoid having cables and several boxed all over the place. The price is very enticing though.
Once you get used to it it's pretty easy to use, and most of the features you can just leave alone and not mess with and still have plenty of tone options. It's true though, it's not the most user friendly amp around. If you want something a little more straight forward, take a look at "Orange" amps, they sound great and their control layouts are always simple and very easy to use.
He says at the beginning that there is not much time to go through everything, theres to much, I was hoping to hear what the amp sounds like. If he would make another video with nothing but tunage of each effect, Just to sample each sound instead of talking .. tnx
Hi torin g, thanks for watching! So this video is just a quick tutorial of how to use the amp. For an actual review of the amp's tone check my review video under my gear reviews playlist. I still don't go through every effect, but it will give you a much better idea of what the amp sounds like
The VIP 2 has way more effects options, is more powerful, and has a 12 inch speaker instead of 8 inch. Even if you don't care about the effects, I think the bigger speaker alone is worth the upgrade. If you can afford the VIP 2 I'd go that route, however if you're on a budget the VIP 1 is a good amp. Overall though, I'd go for the 2 if possible
get the VIP 2, definitely. the 8" speaker of the VIP 1 has a well-known flub, if i may call it that.. it's a noticeable digital frog-iness to the sound in the low-mids/bass frequencies
tyler nguyen the classic amp setting is nice and clean so yes you can get a nice practice jazz sound. Just don’t expect anything really pro sounding for jazz.
Hi guys, wanted to say thanks to you great reviews I purchased the VYPYR VIP2 in the summer. at Christmas I received the Sanpera 1 foot switch and I'm now getting to grips with it (slowly) - but I think it unlocks even more tonal potential within the amp and controls of them. I'd like to see you review the pedal sometime? Also, I think that although you've mentioned it is your favourite practice amp - you've probably not mentioned how vercitile it is as a studio amp? Thanks Lee
Hi! Thanks for the kind words really appreciate it, glad you are enjoying the videos! I wouldn't consider the Peavey Vypyr to be a very good studio amp personally. It makes for a great practice amp but in the studio I would want a real tube amp or at least a very nice solid state amp. Not to take anything away from the Vypyr, it's amazing, but given the choice I would bring something a little nicer to the studio. That's just me though, I wouldn't be surprised if people were able to get some really nice recordings out of it
To perform a factory reset on your Peavey Vypyr VIP 1 amplifier, follow these steps: 1. Power Off: Ensure the amplifier is turned off. 2. Locate Buttons A and B: Identify the ‘A’ and ‘B’ preset buttons on the front panel. 3. Initiate Reset: • Press and hold both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ buttons simultaneously. • While holding these buttons, turn on the amplifier’s power. • Continue holding the buttons until the amp fully boots up. This process will restore the amplifier to its original factory settings, erasing all user-defined presets. For more detailed information, refer to the Peavey Vypyr VIP 1 Operating Manual
Hmmmm... Once you plug in headphones you should automatically get a connection, so if you aren't that might mean the amp is defective or at least the headphone port isn't working. I guess it would be worth trying different headphones or a different cable, otherwise you may need to return the amp :(
I don't think you can unfortunately, and I've never owned the pedal so not real sure how good (or bad) it works. Sorry man hopefully someone else can respond with more info!
Hey sorry I missed this comment just now seeing it. I believe one of the amp sims is called "Classic", if you go to that one and put it on the clean channel you should be able to get some pretty nice cleans

dude you gotta do a series on this, one video its gonna cut it! thanks a million for all the info. i didnt even know how to do have of this stuff!
lol glad to help! Thanks for watching!
Hi! Unfortunately I think the loop function is only with the optional pedal!
@@Corrupt-R thank you, could you explain why guitar amps are sometimes have a mic in front of the speaker and how it's connected and to what?
@@gailrooney2776 Well there are two reasons you'll see a mic in front of an amp. One is to record it, in which case the mic is attached to some recording equipment like a computer. The other reason is to further amplify the amp for large venues, in which case the mic is attached to a soundboard which then sends the signal to massive venue speakers (called the P.A.) so a large crowd can hear it. Hope that helps!
Thanks. Perfect overview. Gives me enough information to get started without being overwehelming.
Ordered that amp yesterday and downloaded the manual and read it. Feel I have a good understanding on what to expect
Thanks. This helps a lot.just got this amp a week ago and now it makes a lot more sense.
Glad I could help! Have fun with the new amp!
What makes the amp even sweeter for me,besides it having so many features.is the fact that I only paid 172 dollars for it brand new
I’m just trying to get an indie/pop sound on this amp lmao
Yeah. I need the software. Amp sounds good but I don’t know how to use it.
Nice review - thank you and this does help! I would actually love to see a longer version of this tutorial as this is a good starter but it only gets you so far. Not complaining, but actually complimenting you and hoping you'll create an even more extensive version of this because it was very good!
Is the sanpera 2 foot switch pedal compatible ? I have been unable to make presets stick
Any idea how to get a overdriven tone on the vypyr
NickyT you might be surprised! There are Orange practice amps at the same price point as the Peavey!
How do you get rid of the fain but irritating high pitched squeal? The one that only goes away when you go to tuner mode. I've heard maybe replacing the voltage regulator or power supply. Peavey said it was normal.
I dont think I've heard anything like that, I wonder if you have some kind of defective amp?
@@Corrupt-R Peavey tech support said all VIP 1s make do that. It's very high frequency, probably 6khz or higher. I'm not the only one, mentioned many times in the Peavey forum. My guess is people with hearing that isn't great in the high frequency range don't hear it.
how quiet can i make this amp? i really need somthing that will be very low volume>? and if i amp still to loud even at volume zero or 1 how can i go about setting it up with the post gain to tone down the volume >>? can you help me out?
It can get extremely quiet, between turning down the master and the channel volume (post) it should go down to just about a whisper!
@@Corrupt-R alright cool cuz im living with my folks and i dont wanna cuz a huge fight over this amp being retardedly loud if i order one online. thanks for your imput bro
@@cracker182 No problem! Yes it should get quiet enough for that :)
Sţëvë Bëţţčhëř You have to purchase the foot switch to access the looper
I can't use the 6505 red distortion setting without getting an extremely loud high pitched screech that hurts my ears. Around 1.5 master and 10:00 on post-gain. Not even that loud of the amp, but the screech is awful. (VIP 1)
I would roll back the post gain to around 4 or 5 and turn up the master, that may help. Also most amps really start to feedback when the volume and the pre gain are both set high. As you increase the master volume, take away some of the pre gain to lessen the feedback. Hope that helps!
@@Corrupt-R That seems to have helped, thank you!
How do you use the looper
I've been wanting to know this for so long
krunchberrykris you have to buy the looper pedal seperate, its like 92$ on amazon
You need the footswitch. You activate the looper by pressing 3 and 4 at the same time on the footswitch. then 3 is record, 4 is play/stop/reset.
how using looper without saanpera, or using another midi foot controler
my EQ can't be tweak, indicator point "cycling" when dialing.
@@cazareza Sorry to hear you are having this problem! Let me know if you're able to get it fixed!
just bought one with no book, how does the tunner work? with a quick look here I dont think you show it. crap.
Guys just install the Peavey vypyr edit software connect the amp to your PC via usb. It is easier than messing around with the knobs.
Is there any way to turn off the delay on the guitar amp settings?
Click on the effect knob, and the look at the bottom names for the EQ/GAIN knobs, if your effect knob LED is flashing then you can use the EQ/GAIN knobs to turn the reverb level all the way down.
There's that light that says looper but I can't figure out how to actually make the looper work
If you haven't found out by now.. you HAVE TO buy the Sanpera for an extra $120.00-$230.00 too unlock it. Not worth the price for a 45 second looper.
Lysol Disinfectant I am seeing the Sanpera 1 going for ~$60 US used now. Probably still not worth it if you would primarily use it as a looper.
or just buy a boss rc-30 :)
Just want to change the gain presets. Practically unusable as a practice amp since all the presets are so damn loud.
I'm not sure how to connect it to a computer, all the information I found told me to buy a MIDI to USB cable, but there is nowhere on the amp to plug it in.
I dont remember any midi cable needed, just USB cable on both ends and it goes in the front of the amp
Where directly in the video do you talk about the presets and how to save them? I already know what presets are specifically, I'm just having problems saving them and I'm unsure how to at all.
Pearl Istt once you have a preset you like hold down the A B C or D button until the lights start blinking, then hit the button again. It will save to whichever button you assign it to
Sound Theory Studio It goes to the bass and changes presettings. I have the VIP 1, I had it for awhile and I still have no clue how to save it.
Mine came with a DVD instruction manual , but it must be Blue ray cause' it don't load on my regular DVD Player !
Hey man, would like to know how to have the amp set for every rose has its thorn poison solo! I just got the amp. Thanks
how do you do a loop
nice video, that being said
Can any of the presets and banks be controlled with the Sampera 1 footpedal
or is that only possible with the Sampera 2
I don't own a Sanpera pedal however as far as I know the Sanpera 1 does switch between presets and banks!
Hold down the A and B buttons until the flashing stops, does it just never stop?
@@Corrupt-R it never stops. I walked away from it for like 40 mins and it was still flashing
I am confused between VIP 1 and mustang 1,please help
How do you turn off the the "tap tempo"? And can you do it straight on the amp? Any answer would be really helpful. Thank you
If you mean the flashing tap tempo light, as far as I know it is ALWAYS on and flashing no matter what you do, however it only affects the sound if you have Delay (or other compatible effect) enabled. If the light bothers you I would recommend tapping out a very slow rhythm on it, at least then the light will only flash occasionally. Hope that helps!
I understand theres a way of disabling ALL the lights , (apart from killing the power)

What are the best settings to play metal like Rammstein?
@@Corrupt-R P.S. - Subbed, very well done!
Yeah i can’t think of a practice size amp with full pedal chain capability, you’d probably have to turn to a multi effects floor pedal like a line 6 helix or something similar. I could be wrong though, lots of amps out there! Thanks for the sub!
I have the Vyper 1 and really needed this tutorial. Instructions that come with the amp are almost non-existent and totally worthless.
Yeah I can't argue with you there, I'm glad the video was helpful! I think part of what makes it difficult is almost everything on the knobs is abbreviated and it's hard to tell what it's supposed to mean at first. In any case, once you get used to it it's pretty easy, but at first glance it's very confusing!
i have a question for this amp. are you able to use a boss distortion pedal on this amp?
Mason Joines I don't see why not! If you set the amp to a nice clean tone it should work fine, however the amp has great distortion tones so not sure you would even need the pedal
how come the pre gain and post gain knobs seem to do the same thing??
TN The Governor post gain should be mostly to set the volume for each individual patch, pre gain shouldn’t raise the volume much but more just add additional gain / distortion.
Is there any way to program this thing to not be super loud when i turn it on? I live in an apartment and want to be descreet
You can turn down the post gain for the patches you use and save it, but the easiest way would be to have the master volume set at zero before you power it on and then turn it up slowly from there :)
If you have the time, I would sure like to know how to tune my VIP-2 to (Johnny B Goode) I've been trying for weeks and cant get it
Pyrect hmmmm for Johnny B Goode Id go for the classic amp on channel 3 (red) to have a clean but overdriven sound. Should be pretty close!
Can anyone tell me..would this be a good system for electronic drums?
Sorry for the late reply somehow I missed your comment! I would get a monitor speaker for drums, it will have a flat response that gives a much more accurate representation of the drum sound than a guitar amp would. The guitar amp, even on the cleanest setting possible, would color the sound I think.
Is there anyway to play this amp without the effects on and just a clean tone?
Sorry for the very late response! I think the closest you would get would be the classic amp setting with gain turned down. Should give a pretty flat clear tone. I dont think there is a setting that will just give you a flat signal though
Just got this amp. How the hell do I get the delay to turn off?? Please someone help
Cdawg- SwitchHitter I think just make sure the stomp and effects knobs are set to bypass
Marc Miller Guitar I figured it out. I had to press the bypass then turn the delay and reverb down. It was so annoying. Got a steal on it. 140 2 weeks old. Guy didn’t like it. I’m going to use it instead of my big amps for at home jamming.
If u want a specific instrument type to be on when powered up, how is that possible? Thanks for the other tips btw😉
@@Corrupt-R
Joe mama glad you got it figured out! Yeah it’s a nice amp for the price for sure. Have fun!
how do you override factory presets? I don't know what I did with my manual
Once you create a new patch that you like press and hold the instrument type button all the way on the left (A B C or D). After you hold it long enough it starts blinking, if I remember right then you push the same button again to save it there.
+Sound Theory Studio much appreciated
No problem, thanks for watching!
I still don't go through every effect, but it will give you a much better idea of what the amp sounds like
How can I use the looper? I cannot use and I'm fucking frustrated now
ᕙ( ͡◉ ͜ ʖ ͡◉)ᕗ it's best if you get a looper pedal; Boss or JOYO.
I'm thinking of getting a peavey VIP 1, should I get the VIP 1 or wait and get a 2?
The VIP 2 has way more effects options, is more powerful, and has a 12 inch speaker instead of 8 inch. Even if you don't care about the effects, I think the bigger speaker alone is worth the upgrade. If you can afford the VIP 2 I'd go that route, however if you're on a budget the VIP 1 is a good amp. Overall though, I'd go for the 2 if possible
get the VIP 2, definitely. the 8" speaker of the VIP 1 has a well-known flub, if i may call it that.. it's a noticeable digital frog-iness to the sound in the low-mids/bass frequencies
buy a Marshall!
is there a way to get a jazz sound?
tyler nguyen the classic amp setting is nice and clean so yes you can get a nice practice jazz sound.
Thanks
Lee
That's just me though, I wouldn't be surprised if people were able to get some really nice recordings out of it
Plz do a video on how 5o do a factory reset on a vip 1 vypyr
To perform a factory reset on your Peavey Vypyr VIP 1 amplifier, follow these steps:
1. Power Off: Ensure the amplifier is turned off.
2. Locate Buttons A and B: Identify the ‘A’ and ‘B’ preset buttons on the front panel.
3. Initiate Reset:
• Press and hold both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ buttons simultaneously.
Thank u helps alot
I can't get headphones to work. Do you have any advice?
Hmmmm... Once you plug in headphones you should automatically get a connection, so if you aren't that might mean the amp is defective or at least the headphone port isn't working. I guess it would be worth trying different headphones or a different cable, otherwise you may need to return the amp :(
How do you use the tuner?
if anyone is watching how would you use the looper or is that even a thing?

how do you set it up for blues??
Try the second channel of the classic amp and maybe add an overdrive pedal with very little gain. Should be a nice start!
