when my husband retired His dream was to sell our home and retire to the lake in Michigan were we had a small cabin for18 years. So we sold our home of 40 years and the cabin and bought a bigger home on the lake, sadly we only lived there six months and he passed away. But l joined a bible study group and have made a few friends through church. I love your channel and Linda’s and look forward to watching you both on the weekend.
I am so sorry to hear that your Husband only lived there for six months. It sounds like you are finding some solace in your Bible study group. Thank you for always being here Fran!
A lovely visit with a good friend, tea and treats, the nursery reminded me of 'House By The Side of The Road', and a fresh lavender plant. Beautiful. ...and now we get snow!
Such a calming video, Carla. Your home looks so warm and inviting. How could you not make new friends, you are such a sweet person! Have a wonderful week.
INSTANT FOLLOW! I have been looking for more New England TH-cam videos. I’ve just finished seeing the last video created by my Kindred Spirit, whom, I’ve been following for quite some time now. Your channel popped up, I started to see it without knowing the wonderful surprise I was about to have! I left the room briefly, but was still listening. I heard you talk about bagels and wallpaper. I saw the familiar color. It slowly started to dawn on me that you are the wonderful friend that went to visit Lynda! Well! How excited was I to have found your channel that links you to Lynda! I had the happiest giggle ever when I saw you pull up to her home and I saw beautiful, Willow! I had just seen you filming in her dining room, and her film you as you did.. and so the discovery of your channel has just made my year! HOORAAAH!! ❤ 💐 🐾💕👌
@ Thank YOU, for welcoming me! I’m in San Francisco Bay and I so do love New England! You all are very warm and happy people and I share your love of history, antiques, and fine living. Thank you again! 💐
I don't really have friends. I have 1 and it's pretty much one sided, if I don't initiate, it goes months without talking 😢 I try so hard to make friends with ladies I meet, I invite them to lunches, bible studies, walking and everyone already has their own life and never reciprocates. It makes me very sad. I am 67, and have 2 daughters but can't rely on them always. Yea, making friends and battling my weight have been the two crosses in my life I deal with. I'm married but a girlfriend shares different emotions. ❤ Lovely video, thanks!
I'm so sorry to hear this Gwen, but don't give up. I agree with you, girlfriends can relate to us better than our Husband's on a lot of things. Keep trying, your "Kindred Spirit" is out there.
Gwen, I totally understand. I’m a retired schoolteacher and I never had much time to entertain very many friends. My social life primarily happened at school. Now retired I have a few friends but all three are married and are often busy with their husbands. I’ve been divorced a long time and chose to remain single. I ve tried to reach out much like yourself and it’s not been reciprocated. Recently I’ve become handicapped so I’m not out and about much. I try to keep myself occupied with animal rescues, reading and always being welcoming to others. I no longer expect to make true friends but I’ve accepted meeting happy acquaintances and leaving it at that. I’ve developed a few friends” friends” with the young baristas at our local coffee shop. They always want to know what I’m reading and leads to good conversations. I’ve grown so fond of them I bought them all a winter hat since the wear them to cover their hair. They weee delighted and it brought me a bit of joy. I got a super deal on them from Lands End so they were good quality. So I make do seeing my married friends when I can and visiting with others and trying to be helpful. My animal rescue bring me unconditional love and a real purpose in fostering and nursing some. It gives me a reason to get up everyday and push through my physical pain. Look for ways to serve and I think you may find people of the same ilk and you’ll bring joy to yourself and others. Be well.
I am in my mid 40s BUT I am an older soul. I started my life very young. I have been married for 26 years. I am a Pastor's wife and have moved a few times across the country. It can be tough to find true, authentic friends, especially because my husband is in ministry. I am now in the empty nest stage as of this year. I have spent over 20 years being a homemaker and homeschooling mom. Friendships are hard for me but I do have a couple of long-distance friends that have been rocks to me. We also met in weird ways. It can be harder to make friends in this stage of our lives. I have recently started volunteering my time and have made a great friend that way.
Thank you for sharing Chrissy. I have heard from a few people on how they have made a friend/friends through Volunteering. Empty Nesting is also hard to adjust to, I too am going through that. My youngest Daughter moved into her own apartment almost a year ago. I miss my children, but understand this is a part of life and it's just a new adjustment for me. I'm just not used to having this much time for myself. lol. Have a wonderful week Chrissy!
I see some friendships changing as I age due to health and mobility changes. Just underwent surgery this week and am in recovery mode now. I like the slow time that January brings! But looking forward to getting back in the swing of my life. Love watching your videos and Linda’s!! ❤❤❤. Blessings!
This video made my heart happy, Carla. It is harder to make friends at our ages, but the friends you have made seem to add quality to your life. I think quality becomes more important than quantity. Like you, some of my best friends have moved away. We stay in touch by phone or email, but nothing compares to in- person visits. To quote Linda, we are kindred spirits that have met through social media. Who could have imagined that? Have a good week, and stay cozy. It's going to be very cold in Michigan for 3 days. I plan to make some comfort food and drink lots of hot beverages to keep warm. ❤
You could not have said it better Sue.....quality over quantity, I love it! I agree, nothing compares to sharing time in person with a friend. I do have to say, that us girls can cure many problems through a phone call!! LOL. Enjoy your cold MI day. We're expecting 7"-10" here today and tomorrow.
Hi Carla, I enjoyed this relaxing video. It was so nice to see you on Linda's video and vice versa! We are expecting some snow later today in CT as well, and I am looking forward to it. I would consider my sister my best friend at this point in my life. We are 5 years apart, have a very close relationship and only live about 15 minutes from each other. I am 66, and some of my friends at this point are either much older than me, or much younger with a lot more energy, LOL! I do miss a group of nurses that I worked with in the 90' s in outpatient oncology at Yale as we became friends outside of work and 3-4 times a year went out to "girl's" lunches or little day trips. It became less and less as the years went by but have many great memories. Stay cozy tonight and enjoy the snow. ❤
What an incredible Blessing to have your Sister as your best friend! I have three Daughters and they are close, I hope that continues through their life. Thank you for watching and sharing Debbie....stay warm!
Hi Carla thanks for the. Trip enjoyed it it’s nice to visit a friend in the winter since we’re so busy at Christmas time soon it will be spring and we will be busy again
Carla, Thank you for celebrating friends. We retired 7 years ago to a charming small town in Central New York and have made such wonderful friends. We feel so blessed. I want to recommend New England based Farm + Sea for beautiful scented lotions and home scents. I found them at The Profound Market several years ago and have been a dedicated customer ever since.
I'm so happy to hear you have found such wonderful friends in your new town, that is a true Blessing! Thank you for the recommendation and believe me, I have several of their products and they are a repurchase for me too. I am currently burning their Cranberry Bog candle and I love that they are made here in New England. Have a wonderful week!
Hi Carla, I always so enjoy the Sunday vidoes. I love to watch both you and Linda!! I have moved several times. I have made friends by doing the things I love. For example I taught for 30 years so I volunteered at a school. The teacher I helped is now also retired and is a dear friend! Another thing was to join groups that I had an interest in. I love history so I volunteered at a lighthouse. I met lots of people that way too. I think you just have to be willing to put yourself out there. Have a good week!
I am fortunate to have lived all my life in the same area I was born. I have friends from childhood and friends I met while I was working. We all stay in touch, some more often than others. We try to meet for lunch or take in a movie occasionally. We are all aging, so sometimes we are not able to meet as often as we would like. I will have to say that when we do get together or talk on the phone, it really lifts my spirits in this cold weather. Your candles are just beautiful and now I want to grow some lemongrass. 😊 Love your calm and serene videos and the music you choose. Have a blessed week and stay warm. ❤
Thank you Karen! I love hearing that you all are nurturing your friendship as often as possible. I think that is very important. I agree how getting together with friends truly lifts our spirits, I know I see a definite difference in myself. Thank you for sharing Karen and have a wonderful week!
Loved the poem , as my best friend moved to Idaho and I'm in California. I just moved from my home of 52 years to be near my only son and grown grandsons. And at 74 , I know it will be a challenge to get and form new friendships. Like you said, when you have small children, it is so easy to meet other women, and get included and involved in the community. Not quite the same at 74. BTW ... loved seeing you stop by Lindas with sweets and a nice cup of coffee. Maybe in a few years ,that will be my life. I have to remember , I just moved here on Oct 28th. So between unpacking, setting up a new home, and the holidays... I haven't had much time. But , as the saying goes...Hope Springs eternal! So lets see what the Spring holds for me. I almost jumped thru the screen for that gorgeous blue cup from Linda. Just my style. Oh my goodness... my BFF and I would have polished off that whole plate of goodies !
I have found it necessary to step outside my comfort zone to meet new people. That was a little hard for me because a lot of my Michigan friends I had known for years. I am so grateful for the few friends I have here and I treasure them. I wish you luck in your new home. It's nice to be near family. BTW, those pastries were yummy! lol. Have a beautiful week Liane!
Hi Carla! I enjoy your channel and the sweet things you discuss and share. I moved into our current town in southern New Jersey in 1997. I was a stay-at-home mom and found that I was one of the few. Most of the women in this area worked full time and it was very difficult to make new friends. I'm still working on it all these years later. I mostly have "acquaintance" friendships here, but I'm so blessed to have wonderful friendships with my friends from my youth and from college. Friends are blessings, indeed! Enjoy yours!
Thank you Margaret. I'm finding that the viewers of my Channel watch because we have many things in common, and it sounds like meeting new friends is one of them. Like the saying goes "Keep your old friends, they know too much". LOL. Have a wonderful week Margaret.
@mynewenglandstory So true! If I lived in NH, I think we'd be fast friends, so if we correspond again, please feel free to all me Midge. ☺️ Have a great week!
Hi Carla! I rarely comment but this weeks video about friends hit home. We moved to a small town on the South Shore of MA from CA about four years ago and left everything behind (although my husband grew up in the area). Totally relate to it being difficult to make new friends, especially without kids in schools. I’ve met some lovely people but not the same sort of relationships as what I left. Hope you and Linda have some get togethers of Kindred Spirits somewhere in New England this year!
Thank you for sharing. I have often told myself the main difference in making friends at our age vs when our children are young, is that you make friends with women that you have things in common with, not just because your children are friends or involved in the same extra curricular activities. That being said, two of my very good friends were made because our daughters played the same Sports. Hang in there, friendships (like all relationships) take time to build.
Hi Carla, great video. I find it harder to make new friends as I age. I guess it’s more comforting to stay within your close circle. Anyway, I’ll call you my You Tube friend. It’s so nice that you and Linda live close to each other and have the same interests. Oh and by the way, I’ll have one of those pastries. lol ❤
OK TH-cam Friend, I will save you a pastry! They were very yummy, it's good I don't live too close to Bob's Chocolate Cafe. lol. Have a beautiful week!
Hi there, I love your channel and each episode that you make is so inspiring. I just wanted to mention to you. I look at you. You look so much like Bonnie Hunt, the actress and TV talk host. I love all the inspiration you give all of us and the loving and care that’s behind everything you say. Happy new year to you and yours. I’ll keep watching. Please don’t go away..
I used to love watching Bonnie Hunt in movies and didn't she have a Television Show? I've never been told I look like her, however, I have had several people say I look like Diane Sawyer. lol. Thank you for being a loyal viewer Sharon, I truly appreciate it.
When I sold my home which to this day, I do regret I move to a lovely condo community and where I met my new friends. We’re at the pool since then a couple have retired and moved to Florida, but we still do keep in touch. It is hard to make new friends when you move, but also I have friends from when I was working friends for over 30 years in the last few years, I’ve lost two or three of them, but I just want to say how much I enjoy your channel. It’s wonderful.❤
Thank you so much Concetta! It certainly sounds like you have made some new friends though.....good for you!! It's definitely important to stay in touch with our friends that are in other States. Social Media and texting certainly help with that. Have a beautiful week!!
HI Carla friend ! Your topic hits home with me too, it truly is hard to make friends as we age ! I am 20-25 years older then the other office girls so I am often left out ..sometimes I feel invisible to them! I am retiring in July can't wait ! Hopefully if I make it east I would love to meet you & Linda !! Stay warm its going to be a super cold week here in Indiana , Blessings Paula
That makes me sad to hear they leave you out. If they only realized the things you could teach them and that just because we age, doesn't mean we can't relate to them. I am sure July will not come soon enough, hang in there. Have a wonderful week Paula!
Carla, thank you for today's beautiful video. You are a blessing to your faithful viewers each week; bring peace and joy to the heart, mind, and soul. You missed your calling to be a film director with your music selections, content, and cinematography. I think you can consider us your "long-distance on- line friends". What a gift to you and us! Regarding moving and making friends, I am always in transition every few years. I belong to a religious congregation in the Catholic Church and live in a monastery connected to our school in New York City. I will be transferred to another one of our schools and monasteries in New Jersey, so leaving friends and making new friends all the time is part of our life. I am also a faithful viewer of Linda's videos as well. I think that the both of you are the sweetest ladies on youtube. I am waiting for the arrival of our snow storm today as well. We are supposed to get 4 or 5 inches of snow soon. I keep looking out the window at the bleak streets below waiting for God to bless us with His magic. God bless you always, dear youtube friend. Robert.
I agree with you Robert, I have "met" so many like minded people through YT and feel very lucky for that. I give you credit for moving so often, that is not an easy life. Thank you again for your kind words and enjoy the snow! We're expecting 7-10 inches here and I feel like a kid......very excited! Have a beautiful week Robert!
Hi Carla.... aren't girlfriends just the best? I have some girlfriends up in New England that I've known for close to 40 years, and I also have some girlfriends in Florida. As a matter of fact, when I first met my best friend in Florida, I asked her if she liked to shop and go out to lunch, and she said yes, so I told her that we could be friends... and we are! I am the type of girl who, I believe as you do, enjoys staying home to nest, and decorate and cook, but it sure is nice to be with girlfriends once in a while! The greenhouse that you went to looks very familiar!!.. isn't it great to go into a nice toasty warm greenhouse in the middle of winter? Your house looks beautiful. I am also starting to put a few valentines things around the house. Valentine's Day is also my wedding anniversary, so it's very special to me and to my husband. Thank you so much for another great video Carla, as always!🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Hi Cynthia! Yes, girlfriends are the best.....the only ones that truly understand us! lol. It sounds like you have several good friends (new and old), which is such a blessing. Happy Anniversary to you! I hope you get to do something very special. Have a beautiful week Cynthia!
@@maryalbert6138 I assume you are referring to the ones in my kitchen window and unfortunately I bought those years ago at The Christmas Tree Shops, which is no longer in business. I literally paid less than $3 ea and they have lasted for years.
Lovely video 💚 could you please tell me what Linda's TH-cam channel is? I've been a military child and then wife so have moved every couple of years for most of my life, so I don't have any lifelong friends and now I have been settled in my own home for the last few years , it's very hard to find and maintain friendships as an adult .
I understand, that would be very hard, I can't imagine moving that often. Your Husband's Service (and yours) are greatly appreciated, thank you. Linda's Channel is "New England Fine Living", she has a beautiful Account. Have a wonderful week!
I'm a new viewer and this is my first video. I'm not sure why you moved but I have a question. Both my husband and I are retired and we keep talking about retiring to Maine. Any pointers in how difficult it was to move to New England?
Welcome Betsy. I go into more depth in my Intro Video on the why. When you say difficult, do you mean mentally or physically? It had been a dream of ours for quite awhile, so I had been researching areas and talking to many locals several years prior to our Move, so I felt I had a decent idea of what different areas provided. I would say you need to love the change of Seasons, we get all kinds of weather here. As far as the physical Move, my Husband was offered a job here in NH, so his Company paid for our Move which helped tremendously. It was definitely hard leaving our extended family and friends, but we have absolutely no regrets. We just love New England and of course love exploring all that New England has to offer. I hope this helps a little and good luck with your decision.
New England ❤

Love Linda's channel too☺️

Such a calming video, Carla. Your home looks so warm and inviting. How could you not make new friends, you are such a sweet person! Have a wonderful week.

@@margarethangley7282 You too Midge!😊
Thank you, Carla, for this heartwarming video! ❤❤❤
Hi Carla! I rarely comment but this weeks video about friends hit home. We moved to a small town on the South Shore of MA from CA about four years ago and left everything behind (although my husband grew up in the area). Totally relate to it being difficult to make new friends,
especially without kids in schools.
@ Thank you for your kind response. We are finding our way here, just wish it was a bit easier!
Lovely video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!
As always, another beautiful video! Thank you.
Thank you so much, I am so glad you enjoyed it Paula! Have a wonderful week.
Beautiful video, Carla!! Have a wonderful week.
Thank you so much, and you too Marianne!

I love your candle stick in the window. Can you share where are you purchased them from?
Thank you Mary. Could you specify which one/which window? I have different ones.
Yes at the beginning of your video you film them. Thank You
@@maryalbert6138 I assume you are referring to the ones in my kitchen window and unfortunately I bought those years ago at The Christmas Tree Shops, which is no longer in business. I literally paid less than $3 ea and they have lasted for years.
@ Thanks for letting me know. Sad the Christmas Tree store is gone. Good prices .
@@maryalbert6138 I so agree!
👍👍♥️
