Would the Smeg fridge fit if you removed the cabinet above? We had to do that when we replaced ours and it was very simple to do.

HI Sarah, I have painted my kitchen cabinets about two years ago. I found the color in a country living magazine and I LOVE it , its called oil Cloth by Benjamin Moore, get a swatch I think you will love the sage green / grey color. It goes well with brass pulls and knobs. Which I wish I could afford! My inspiration kitchen had brass , and it looked wonderful. good luck, with your redo ! Kellene💘

I’m loving the greens you have picked and super excited as we have just moved our church to a new location and I chose SW Evergreen Fog as one of the colors! I can’t tell you how excited I feel that I chose a color you are looking at! I was very honored to make all the paint choices for our new church space! Can’t wait to see what you decide to do!! ❤

@@SheHoldsDearly it looks like from your video you stove upper are right by the opening of a peninsula so therefore would minimize a hood that is same colors as cabinet & understated. (DEFINITELY GET RID OF MIRCO) love love 💕 idea you have for sink (but the window in in the way) but your current sink is tooooo modern - love love the brass & extending the cabinet to the ceiling (NO CEILING treatment - you will get sick of it in a couple of yrs.) put a cabinet panel on dishwasher with same colors as. Then cause you love to decorate for the seasons make a sink curtain you can change out.

I grew up in a 1906 house and it had a light fixture similar to option2. Though a bit plainer. It had a wash board sink with silver taps that came out of the wall. Our house had bead board not ship lap. It was more of an unfitted kitchen with not a lot of counter space. Kitchen table in the middle was double duty work and eat. One side of the kitchen had glass cabinets on top and plain painted wood, knobs included on bottom. A painted countertop. The sink side had simple painted cabinets, no glass. More shaker style. Again painted knobs. Back splash was bead board. When I was in England, they all cover their frig with cabinet door fronts. Blends right in. A bit of hide and seek looking for it😆 they did that with the dish washer too. Hope my old house gives you ideas.

Love your video! When we were building our home, I really wanted Carrera marble countertops. But all kitchen experts we talked to said that, while Carrera marble looks great, it is very high maintenance, all kinds of foods can permanently stain it, and it only really works if you don’t cook a lot! Well, since I cook a lot and enjoy doing it, I decided to go with a granite that looked like marble. Also, if you don’t have a huge kitchen, you can get slabs that are already cut and out in their yard, that are beautiful and a lot cheaper than ordering it. We got a lovely, huge piece of white quartzite, much prettier than marble, that was a lot less money and put it in our master bath for the countertop. Looking forward to seeing how you design your kitchen, which I know will be awesome! God bless!

When I lived on Nantucket, I painted my trim in entire house, doors, and kitchen cabinets Nantucket gray, which is really a soft green. I loved it! It was so easy to live with and never seemed dated. Keep in mind, we built the house in 1993 and used that color. Timeless. 💚

I love your vintage light and the fact that it’s off center. One of the things I love about old houses are the quirks. The sloping floors, doors and windows that are odd sizes, wide moldings, off center lights all add character and charm. Definitely quartz for the countertops - I had it in my last house and it’s so durable with no maintenance and it looks beautiful.

Kitchen remodels are so fun! 1) An idea to consider is subbing an 18” DW. This can drastically expand your storage options. It works well for a household of 1-3, you never have to worry about running a half full load. And if you’re doing a lot of cooking for the holidays, running it twice a day works well. I found a Bosch which I love (European models often offer smaller scale appliances). 2) While creamy stone counters are gorgeous, butcherblock counters, especially if finished properly, are another option - pictured in your inspiration kitchen. An inset of stone at strategic places (beside the stove; as a place to roll out dough/pastry, etc.) can extend its usefulness. You would save a pile of money! And butcherblock looks fantastic with 3) beadboard, which I would consider rather than the wider shiplap, given the era of your farmhouse, unless you already have shiplap in the house.

Good Morning! Love your Ideas. I've been in a 1927 Craftsman for 20 years. Those finishing touches are tough. Here are my thoughts. 1. COUNTERS - Butcherblock and/ plus Gold vein Marble (there is one). 2. LIGHT - lengthen chain and hook it in 2 places to center it ( Y ) OR go with the horizontal 2 light. 3. Pegs - not enough room. Use on doors if possible. 4. HARDWARE - Architectural Hardware is a great resource. I used Restoration Hardware when he started the co. but they have gone in a new direction. Luckily my original hardware was in my house. 5. APPLIANCES - Wood panel is great for 1906. 6. WALL PANEL - Go with bead board rather than ship lap. I added painted bead board to the ends of my cabinets and love it.
Be sure your kitchen tells a story. Your story. 😊

Sarah, this is an exciting project! I like the idea of color drenching your kitchen in sage green or light color, adding molding to bring your cabinets to the ceiling, adding a light or medium color counter, creating a fun vent hood, perhaps a "tin roof" ceiling, and take off the door of the cabinet closest to your sink so you would not have to worry about a door hitting your sink wall. You have so many wonderful ideas, have fun with the process!

Hi Sarah, It will be fun to watch your vision come to life, some ideas consider not going with an island but rather finding a scrubbed pine or some other antique table that can serve as a prep space, "island" and perhaps an eat in table....if your time or budget allows I would take out your peninsula to open that space, I would rip out all your top cabinets and find an antique hutch...I think soapstone counter tops is natural, I like the farrow and ball green the best and lastly, I would go for the tongue and grove shiplap, beadboard or board and batten..., it looks authentic and warm and cozy.... whatever you decide, it will be beautiful!

Hi Sarah! I’m so excited for the upcoming videos. I, too, am getting ready to redo my kitchen. Mine is a TINY 10x10 ( literally) kitchen that has the white 4x4 tiles all over it. The only counter space I have is about 2 feet on each side of the sink. To keep costs down, I have decided to put up beadboard around vertically. I am thinking about continuing it upon the ceiling as well -and going down the soffit. 8 foot ceilings as well. Going to put some crown in there probably. Like the idea of the light coming out of the wall, but I feel you would regret the single light( even with the window). To add some of my own personal style, I thrifted and old hutch top with 3 long narrow, shallow glass panes. I am putting that with some wooden corbels underneath. Keeping it its original walnut color to create an old world vibe. They are about 36 inches long. Counters in a backwards L underneath. Decided to put a tiny microwave in a cabinet below. I want to faux brick the chimney stack. My biggest problem is choosing a countertop. Love the idea of butcher block, but not the maintenance. Quartz was what I was angling as a second choice. I also have vintage French copper pans and just picked up some beautiful old farmhouse prints from an estate sale going down the stack. Shaker style cabinets. Not sure if going with green or blue( a lot of blue in dining room and living room). All in my head already. I think personally the peg rail would be too much in your space as well, but like the idea of gilding the laundry sign. Anyhoo- need to order the cabinets as well. Can’t wait to go on this journey together!!!

You are one of the very few people I can watch without fear of hearing the Lord's name taken in vain. The comment I have is with regard to the microwave. My husband and I got rid of our microwave many years ago and honestly do not miss it. It has been our experience that using a microwave does not save much if any time in reheating foods and I do not believe it is good for our health. I want only the best for you and your family. Green is my favorite color of paint, but I love white kitchen cabinets. I'd hide the icebox in cabinetry, or have you seen the ones that are the size of a dishwasher and drawers. Spend the money on that stove, girl!! Trim up to the ceiling on your existing cabinets. What about a plaster look on the ceiling or beadboard? I prefer a maximalist working kitchen, though. Great idea on swagging your existing light. Even though the double one is perfect, without sentimental value. What a treasure your notebook will be for this journey... Now, let me get one ordered.... I love all of your ideas and inspiration. We remodeled our 1959 kitchen ourselves. We have 8' ceilings, original Pickwick beadboard which was already painted. It is a combo kitchen and dining room. We removed several layers of vinyl flooring to the subfloor and laid new hardwood to match the rest of the house. We color drenched the room with Farrow and Ball Shaded White color matched at Benjamin Moore. Kept the beadboard around the room and backsplash. Used Jurassic Black Granite honed for counters and behind the stove. My husband built the cabinets from scratch and we have an integrated panel dishwasher. If I had enough money, I would buy the Big Chill Icebox looking refrigerator and the matching range. They are gorgeous. My husband is also building an oak cabinet with glass doors that will sit on one of the counters and an oak console cabinet under the window. I am very happy with how it all turned out. It is very warm and cozy. See if they have the Pickwick beadboard at a lumber store. I cannot wait to see what you do. Everything you do is lovely.

Hey there, I have a wall mount faucet and it makes me so happy every morning to come in and see it, and to use it. It does not have a sprayer and although rinsing out, our big farmhouse sink is a little more challenging. I don't mind at all. I also used evergreen fog in my adjoining den on everything from the trim, the bookcases, the walls, and then a wood ceiling that matches the kitchen in a warm wood color. Oh, I also have unlacquered brass pulls and I adore those as well! But whatever you choose, I know it'll look beautiful!

I love the look of stone counters, too... But. When we redid our kitchen, we put in a temporary laminate counter while we were hunting for the right stone - it's a super cheap charcoal gray ikea laminate counter. And you know? I like that they are quiet - they don't make as much kitchen noise as when working on stone. They are soft - so dropped things don't break as often. They are not cold - touching and leaning and working on stone makes my fingers and hands and forearms cold. Maybe these sensory issues aren't a consideration for most people, but we haven't replaced our "temporary" counters in 8 years because we like these things so much. I'm not saying to go with cheap plastic counters, but I'd personally love to find a beautiful, high quality, easy care, non-stone option.

I have the Evergreen Fog in my bathroom and I love it so much. With that color you can add blues like navy would look beautiful as an accent color. I get so many great compliments on my bathroom color. It really makes it look like a larger room.
Also, I have a classic refrigerator by Unique that’s about the same size as the Smeg. I wouldn’t recommend that fridge because it’s a back to the basics fridge, meaning you have to thaw it yourself and no ice maker. We are looking into the Big Chill refrigerator. They have a retro line and it’s not as tall as the Smeg. I hope this helps!
Thanks for all you videos and giving me such great ideas for my own space. God Bless

For the light over your sink, the last light you showed, the Eloise, would be best. It could be centered over the sink, it would put out enough light, and it fits the period you're going for. I love the wall mount faucet idea (and accompanying sink), and the curtains instead of a cabinet door would just make the whole look! I like your colors, but unless your kitchen has TONS of light, go for the lightest shade of what the color will be. (Remember the Dark Academia project?). And, if you can afford it, putting in the real narrow vertical bead board would be perfect! In my vision, the architectural details would be period, but the color, fabrics and appliances could be more modern. Have fun - it sounds like a great project!

You could even use bead board wall paper as a more economical option as I did in my kitchen and spend the extra money on your dream stove. I love the idea of a chair rail with pegs but I would install it higher up the wall and make it a picture shelf with the bead board below. Also Glidden has a beautiful sage green called Farm Fresh available pre mixed at Walmart, another way to save a few $. I love it so much I painted my living room and mud room this color. My observation is about function ( not meant to be negative). Those latches might get annoying if you are frequently opening and closing the cabinet. I wonder if the drapery on cabinets would hold kitchens “aromas” ?
I love hidden appliances ( designed to have cabinet door fronts) though they are expensive. It would be amazing to find a fridge with an old ice box look. I like the microwave drawers they have now too.
A butcher block counter would be beautiful against the sage greens, especially with the brass hardware.
Hidden under cabinet lighting would be a way to add more light without introducing another style.
Whatever you choose, it will be beautiful! Looking forward to seeing your journey ❤

I love the Eloise light. I always use painted beadboard on the walls for a vintage look. I'm not a fan of shiplap (plus everyone has it). I buy sheets of plywood beadboard, primer it, lightly sand, and two coats of satin paint. That takes any roughness out and the walls look truly vintage. Easy to wipe down. Love your upper glass-door cabinets; I always opt for those -- they make the kitchen so much lighter and more interesting. I also use vintage glass knobs and pulls. As far as ceiling treatments: if you don't have rough plaster, try wallpapering your ceiling. It can look stunning. The faux tin looks heavy and over the top. Paint colors -- I prefer the soft green as it is much warmer. The greys are so cold. I would use the lightest green shade and then put white background wallpaper on the ceiling with a little of that same green in the pattern.

I love your idea of color washing ! I’m really looking forward to your kitchen design series !
I know that your house is not from the Revolutionary American time like mine but the colors in Benjamin Moore Williamsburg color collection are classic. They look both historic and modern. If you can find a Benjamin Moore Williamsburg fan deck I’d recommend checking out their greens and blues. I love Williamsburg Wythe Blue and several of the greens. I like the idea that you described of raising your cabinets to ceiling height. Some of my neighbors have wood ceiling beams which may be original and they are charming but give me the feeling of a cozy English cottage. I don’t know if you want that in your kitchen if you want it to feel more spacious. We had to replace our refrigerator last year and hunted high and low for one that would fit into our small kitchen. It was a game of centimeters to find a counter depth refrigerator but we finally found one which fit !!! It is a Fisher and Paykel and it looks very modern but it was the only one that fit. I’d say that the sleek modern design is ok and doesn’t detract. I am very interested in your kitchen project and have been hoping that you would get to it soon.

I'm excited to watch this project! Your husband could totally handle the stove hood. Your son could help him remove the old microwave---good to have 2 strong guys for that part. After pulling the microwave, he could install in a Hauslane IN-R100 cabinet depth ventless hood (I love mine--very powerful) or similar ductless hood. If you go with a Broan hood, make sure the filters are available to buy somewhere. Difficult-to-find filters for the 30" size I needed was the reason I didn't go with a Broan. With a hole saw, drill three 3" holes in the top of the cabinet above so the filtered air can escape. Then use some basic carpentry skills to build the mantle from whatever inspiration photos you come up with. If you want a decorative panel for the mantle, you can order an extra cabinet door to match your cabinets. Ilve stoves are beautiful, but I wish they had a self-cleaning or steam cleaning feature. That's the only reason I wouldn't want one. I'm too old to be sitting on the floor scrubbing an oven! It's a shame that all the Ilve dupes seem to have bad reviews.

I chose black soapstone counters but I kept my older stainless steel sink and simple goose neck faucet. I am so thrilled with the look. It's old world and a bit European as well. You have some great ideas. In my experience, stone countertops are high maintenance and pricey when you want to change them. We built our house 3 years ago and because I could not manage to make one more decision at the time, we went with “cheap” Formica countertops in the kitchen. I actually love Formica! It has come a long way over the years and mimics stones, wood, marble, etc. I do not love the pattern we have, it’s too busy. But at the price, we knew we could easily change them without feeling too wasteful. Marble is higher maintenance. Certain cleaners cannot be used on it. If they are polished, vinegar (and other liquids) will remove the polish (ask me how I know!). They are beautiful though! I just would not put them in a working kitchen.

When I think of your home I think of french country. It reminds me of an upscale bed and breakfast. I would do a warm cream or taupe cabinet with the beautiful hardware you like. While I love butcher block, I feel like your home feels more like a quartz countertop in a light color. For a light fixture, what about some type of sconce with a pleated or scalloped shade? Also, I would cover the smaller appliances with curtains in a classic toile French print. I would also create moodiness with accessories vs. Paint. That way, it's an easier transition should you decide to change it.

I haven't been watching as long as others, but I think Andrea's style is lovely but more cottage-y than your style, which seems more refined to me. Someone else here commented painting your dishwasher to match your cabinets, and that would be a less expensive option. Blend the two and Colby could build a new wood front to match the cabinets, and paint that. That would get you to the look you showed us where everything was painted the same color to give the feeling of more space. Whatever you do will be beautiful! ~Helen Van Wagenen

Over the Sink Lighting: I like the 'two fixture/long" light..it is all about scale... I would mock up a carboard piece, one of each and use Sticky Tack to place above there...live with it for a day and see what looks better scale wise...you may want more lighting there so the 2 fixture one may be more practical as well!
Ideas that we did in our kitchen that we highly would recommend:
We installed a 'tea tap'...it is an instant near boil hot water tap, we use it all the time for tea, cooking, baking...instead of a kettle...
Lowers...drawers!...so much more practical than cupboards for the lowers
    Island: plugs and outlets
    Lighting: undercounter lighting
    Dedicated Coffee Bar
Upper Cabinets to the Ceiling: we have uppers above our uppers...small glass enclosed cabinets with lighting for the Pretties; I have my crock pitcher collection up there!
Roll Down Bread Box in the corner...hides the microwave, bread, and toaster on my counter
No Overhead Chandelier over the table...did pots... we host large groups and move the tables around/add long tables so that type of fixture just gets in the way

Our countertops are quartzite. Easy care and beautiful. (It’s natural stone, but sealed it’s very easy to care for.)

Sarah... i commented before... we have also added the legit tongue and groove in our kitchen by the pantry and in several spots in our home. It's sooo pretty... worth it!

Sarah,Love your ideas. #1 I think the 2 light fixture would look better and even out the slant That is going on with the stairs. Make it look more even on the wall. #2 I totally agree that you should do the paneling the tongue and groove. It will be totally worth the effect that you will get with it! #3 I think that the countertops need to go, the kitchen. A beautiful quartz whitish countertop is going to give you your desire look. And finally yes, paint the laundry sign! Good money saved! Love your channel and can’t wait to see the final product! I’ll get back to you
On the color of green I think….lol enjoy your weekend!
