I am really trying to keep these sort of videos to be 15 minutes or less. I chopped off a part where I raved heavily about the plane. I love this plane but there are some considerations that you have to be mindful of when fighting, especially in a busy AO where there are multiple enemies. This thing is a 1vs1 god but it is pretty hard to fight multiples at once unlike the Mig-21 IMO. Just wanted to make this note because this is still my favorite module but most of the video was highlighting some of the negative - it's still my favorite Cold War module but wanted people to be aware of the limitations so you can keep them in the back of your mind as you approach fights.
These types of videos where you share your thinking about the situation are incredibly helpful. Even in these situations where you got shot down you can definitely see the logic of your choices for sure, sadly the situation changes and you get outnumbered but the strategy of the moment makes so much sense and is very helpful.
Love these videos. Btw, totally agree with your statement about liking the primitive IR missiles. I have very little interest in modern Jets and the tendency to be managing screens and doing BVR engagements. I'm a WW2 IL2 pilot mostly, I love the dogfights, being up close and personal. Korean era to Vietnam is still very interesting but much beyond that and it doesn't click for me. That makes me really wish DCS put their development time and focus on those early jets rather than the overpriced WW2 stuff. Give me a F-100 super sabe, the F-105 thunderchief, MiG-17 and of course the F-4 phantom, along with a proper Vietnam map, that would make for an amazing cold war server that I would put allot of time into.
I am pretty much done flying the modern stuff. Like the Mig-29A, Su-27 and Mirage 2000 is the most modern I go and after that I just am super meh about. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and that you are coming back checking out another video.
@@Enigma89 You convinced me to get the MiG-19 module btw. Just so you know you're helping bolster the redfor players on DCS. I'm just worried at this point there is going to servers full of MiGs and no competition. I need the F-105s and F4s so I have something to shoot at! ha. Plus, and maybe it's just me, but only the F-5 and Mirage really fit in on the NATO side of things for a proper cold war game WARSAW vs NATO. The only time that is interesting to me is 1950s-1980 We need some real proper contemporary competition to early soviet Designs. 1960-1975. It's kind of bizarre that right now it pretty much goes from the F-86 saber to the F-14 with nothing in between for America. Considering the F5 was never even used domestically.
I hear you about the PG map being great for spotting! Syria and Marianas are beautiful but along with the difficult spotting, AI gets hung up on the terrain objects 😢
10:43 - didn't want that aileron anyway... you didn't get hit, you rolled too abruptly at too high a speed. One of the 19's many quirks, it's the only module that models that kind of limitation AFAIK.
I have the Jf-17 but I don't really fly it anymore because I just sort of lost interest in the more modern stuff but maybe one day. I do like that module.
Started just recently with the mig19. Flew it against a buddy in his F-16-- Only Guns. We came out with a 50/50 win/loss ration. We are both no experts in flying and Dogfighting but i was surprised how capable the 19 is. Really enjoy your mig/ gold war content. Don't know if its appropriate but i still don't know how to use the AVACS info and set a heading with the instruments in the mig19.
I actually don't bother learning the navigation tools in the planes because I just draw on the map and use the heading tool... Just going off visual navigation. I am sure chuck's guide explains what you need to know in detail.
anyone have an rwr issue where the On switch doesn't respond/flip when clicked? cursor turns green, it knows the switch is there... sorry to drop a troubleshoot question here. love the mig19, it's gorgeous in dcs
This is a bug it is because of your IFF. Look at this video (time stamped). Once you flip that switch behind the green cover then you can turn on your RWr. th-cam.com/video/YVIzrBfKwEI/w-d-xo.html
November 19 or 20th is the launch date. We just moved the entire infrastructure over last night to a cloud solution and validated that it works. Keep an eye on the discord for updates.
