Theres something about 80's music and footage from the cold war. I mean we all know Vietnam and the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan take the lime light but this... this is fantastic. Something a bit more "chill" as most of this footage seems to be training or whatever.
Imagine 40 yrs from now, people will be maing edits of Ukraine, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Amenia (Artsakh) etc war clips, NATO & QUAD military exercises with edited versions of 2020's songs.

Things that came out of the Cold War were spying, NASA, and the race to space. We developed advanced aircraft and certainly wouldn't be the society we are if not for the Cold War. I do believe though that it was a race to see who would go bankrupt first, I don't think any really went bankrupt, but I don't know if anyone won the Cold War. The Soviet Union dissolved and Russia became a complete chaotic mess with Chechnya and over all post Soviet block suffered a lot from post Cold War. And now I think more than ever we are starting to feel the effects of the Cold War. The catastrophes of it and the several losses of people through you could say, useless conflicts.

Consider that the F-22 (which was supposed to be the ultimate dogfighter) is reported to be retired soon since the age of dogfighting is over. Meanwhile the F-15 which was built to be a heavy duty flying weapons platform from the beginning has proven itself to be sufficient is to be upgraded. (I wouldn't be surprised if the F-15 remains in service long after the F-35.) The B-52 was riddled with flaws in the beginning, but most have been resolved since. The Abrams is a good tank for the most part, but may need to be given a different drive and propulsion system in the future in case gasoline reserves run low. (It's turbine engine guzzles a lot of fuel.) The A-10 has a debated history. There has been talks to replace it with a more simplistic and nimble aircraft, one of the proposed aircraft being an armored and heavily armed cropduster. There are of course other classified aircraft and assets that may enter combative service if there should ever be another global conflict and the situation becomes dire enough.

And I thought it will cause air pilot to engage in dog fight during every raids where they are committed to bomb supply line. But surface to air missiles prove them obsolete. Nowadays suicide drones and SLBM are used to attack supply line and warehouses. Of course we still have WW1 style artillery grind but I expected others to stay the same as well.

Even a conventional war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact would have been insanely bloody. And if you consider the tens of thousands of nukes on both sides...thank god both sides managed to keep a cool head, even if things got out of control at some points.

Leopard and M1 are from the 80s lol The B-52 is, well, from the 50s, same for it's cousin the Tu-95. Another bomber worth mentioning is the Tu-22M, while not the newest or most capable it has found acclaim. Prior to the 2022 it wasn't all that popular, even with the Russians themselves, but it has proven to be an effective backbone. At the latest when it played a crucial part together with artillery to level Mariupol.

That's the era when technological advancement was advancing so fast to the point within 40 years since the 1940s we have jets that can reach up to speeds of Mach 2.5 and drop multiple bombs on one target. Its even more crazier today on how much stuff we have.
The Cold War is what is fascinating for me. Grandparents childhood was WW2, Grandpa was in the Korean War, Dad joined in the 70’s and was in Germany and Crete, Mom joined the military in the 80’s, they met in Panama, I was born in the aftermath of the Cold War as the last baby in an Army hospital for a base shutting down in the first wave of BRAC, then my Dad got deployed as part of IFOR in Bosnia, he got out right before the war on terror started, childhood and teenage years was the Iraq War, then joined in the midst of the war in Afghanistan, and I have no idea what the war will be when my kids probably join the military, but their childhood has been watching Ukraine and Gaza from afar.

Most of the weapons and vehicles in this video are still in service today, save for a few exceptions like the F-86 Sabre or SR-71

All the technology developed to wage war and in the end most of it wasn't used. The race was to see who would go bankrupt making them first.

Grandparents childhood was WW2, Grandpa was in the Korean War, Dad joined in the 70’s and was in Germany and Crete, Mom joined the military in the 80’s, they met in Panama, I was born in the aftermath of the Cold War as the last baby in an Army hospital for a base shutting down in the first wave of BRAC, then my Dad got deployed as part of IFOR in Bosnia, he got out right before the war on terror started, childhood and teenage years was the Iraq War, then joined in the midst of the war in Afghanistan, and I have no idea what the war will be when my kids probably join the military, but their childhood has been watching Ukraine and Gaza from afar.
