I did manage to get out on that bluefish/striper trip on Sunday. A lot of big blues were caught. I myself caught three, but I didn't keep them. Blues aren't the best eating, and if not put on ice immediately, the meat spoils in minutes. But it had been over 20 years since I had caught a bluefish. There were half a dozen small stripers caught too.
Peter, I fish a seabass hotspot off Connecticut in the middle of the sound, and the seabass have suddenly disappeared. But I am catching lots of sharks, so I theorize that they’ve made a beeline for the shallows to save their rears (pun intended). Hence the reason you are catching more in the shallows? Greetings from Gio, Western Long Island sound.
Thanks for this info Gio, that actually makes a lot of sense. Whatever it is them seabass were shallow this year, especially in the western sound too. Out east I've seen them shallow but here in the west it wasn't common at all in years past, at least for me.
What's up Peter ? Dude the Sound was choppy as well on Sunday across the way in CT.. Fluke action was hit or miss and that day all under same could be said about Sea Bass.. But the porgy action like always on fire with good size. I also decided to bring my oldest daughter and within an hour being out on the kayak she got sea sick. LoL.. To choppy , boat traffic was crazy as well. Hope maybe thursday I'll get time to head out again... P.s. my fishfinder had electrical problems and I was fishing blind as well, seems we were riding the same karma wave
It def was a little choppy this past Sunday out there but it did calm down for me mid day. That’s great you took your daughter though to try maybe next time on a calmer day 😬 been pretty windy past few days but hope you do get out there tomrw and fix the fish finder issues!
Nice size porgies Pete! I was out Saturday afternoon on the outgoing for fluke. Had a couple of big hits, lost one that probably was a keeper. I was marking tons of porgies but didn’t really have the correct tackle. When I got home I made sure I threw some rigs in the hatch for my next trip. 😊
Hey Robert, I try to put the tail up, curling away from the hook point. But idk maybe I'll try messing around with it a bit more, it def seems to happen more when I sharp jig aggressively
This might be a dumb question: how do you get into your kayak without getting soaking wet in the cold weather months? If I wanted to kayak in April, how would I do it without freezing? Wear waders?
Personally, I wear a drysuit when water temps are below 60F. Before I got a drysuit I used to just wear tall rubber boots and like snow pants. Waders are a safety concern, not advised
Great video, I appreciate the weather/location data at the beginning of the video.
Glad you liked it, good to know it helps you 👍
Good job Peter. Still very jealous of your Access to different fish😊
thanks for the reminder Ben, its so true and I often take it for granted 😊
Man, I wish I did this well in the Raritan Bay. I may need to visit the Sound 😂. Very nice outing Pete.
Thanks 👍 yeah give the sound a try sometime! does get a little slow in the heat but the porgies are pretty consistant
Thx for sharing weather and tide info
No problem 👍

they are a blast even if your main target is fluke...what were you using for the fluke on sunday? I hope the fluke bite continues to improve
Pete, do you put your gulps tail up or down? On the first one I think it was tail down. Normally I see most people doing it tail up.
