      @@supersexysega I can't seem to understand why Maximum Carnage sounds so terrible on Genesis whereas the SNES version was so good. I wonder if the music on there was ever possible to make it sound good on Gen.

    • @supersexysega
      @supersexysega 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@NYCHeavyHitz212 I don't mind the Genesis music but it uses a pretty crappy sound driver. Generally different developers have unique sounding Genesis games because they use their own sound driver. So Maximum Carnage on Genesis sounds similar to Separation Anxiety, Beauty and the Beast, Rock and Roll Racing, The Tick and a bunch of other games that use "Software Creations" sound driver.
      Tons of Sega of America or Western developed games use the "Gems" sound driver. Tons of EA games use the same EA sound driver. Over the years generally improvements are made. EA had some incredible sounding games near the end of the Genesis lift cycle and sound night and day different then early release EA games.
      Japanese developed Genesis games music was consistently good to great even early on. They were alot better then the West especially early on creating FM music and their sound drivers and talent were just better then the West for most of the generation.

    One of my favorite games of all time. My mom just saw rollerblades and bought it for me thinking it was a boring old skating game. The soundtrack is out of this world. I used to load the game and just listen to the "cd player" screen sometimes. I didn't know it at the time but when I revisted the game later on in life I noticed the song names are hilarious too. I still listen to the soundtrack every now and then in my car and keep a lead pipe in reach in case anybody tries to grab my bumper.

    I personally loved this game tbh I think it deserves a remake, just keep most of the original gameplay elements then add some new weapons, new game modes, online multilayer, the choice of rollerblades rollerskates and skateboards, new vehicle behaviour, levels or sections with oncoming traffic on one side, some loadout options such as equipping weapons before the race and 1 or 2 special abilities, some shop upgrades (ability to buy certain weapons to start the race with), minor tweaks/upgrades to the controls, new game mechanics...
    Stunt/trick meter: pull off tricks to fill up once full the player is rewarded a temporary trick power up with more stylish exaggerated and easier to land tricks (falling during build up decreases meter)
    Combat meter: Knocking down opponents to build, getting knocked decreases meter, full meter grants the player a temporary combat power up allowing the player to take and do more damage
    Skitch Meter: fills up by skitchin on the back of different cars, decreases by falling off or getting hit by cars, once filled up the player will have a temporary speed boost and will be able to hold on to cars easier even giving the player an additional animation and a button prompt to recover before they fall off
    It would be absolutely ridiculous

      It's a business. EA understands Madden, Fifa, NHL sell regardless of quality. Back in the Genesis era they had a bunch of acclaimed non sports games that sold like shit (The Haunting, General Chaos, Blades of Vengeance etc.). So by the end of the Genesis era they just tried to focus on releasing games that sold well understanding games that review well and sell like shit don't matter. Think of Sega vs Nintendo. Nintendo goes to the well and rightly from a business standpoint sells you the same games every console generation. Sega on the other hand always brought out new IP's and most sold poorly and have a very niche legacy.

    I'm so glad to finally see this review from Drunk since this is the most 90s a piece of media could get. I think there's a 2-player feature on this and you can choose different characters on it as well. A family friend of mine had this game and it was so fascinating to me to see a game about what I used to see on the streets of NY(one of many in America as I'm sure it's more of a west coast thing) in the mid-90s. In-line skates definitely aren't as popular as they were back then. Even used to be on the X-Games but not anymore. :( I know a couple guys who still skate tho.

    Skitchin is awesome, the stunt system is perfect. I admit, its hard to get used to, but there are 12 different stunts you can do, and if you are a pro like me, you can bust double, sometimes triple moves in one stunt. The trick to landing stunts is that you have to let go of every button to land the trick. If you press any button while you're trying to land, you eat shit. That's the trick. once you learn to do a trick real quick and then let go of the buttons for a sec, you can easily bust out tricks, and when you memorize certain ramps you can successfully pull off double or triple stunts for an automatic perfect 10. You need to learn to pull two jump kicks to really get a ten every time, because its easy to do a double jump kick pressing the A button twice, because all the other moves take a lot of time to complete, but the jump kick is the only one that you can do quickly if you know what you're doing. Skitchin is flawless, the control is perfect, but there is a learning curve, but with enough practice and strategy, skitchin is clearly a perfect game. The music is as good as 16 bit could ever get, rivaled only by the castlevania and zelda series. Mastering tricks in this game is the number one best way to get money to pay for bills, gear, and the races. To really win at this game, try sticking around in Denver and doing as many tricks as you can. If you master the double jump kick you can clean up in Denver, then finish the race 6th or 7th and you can do Denver again and go to the bonus round and make even more money . You can make up to 400 dollars per race with this strategy. Then save your money up until you have about 2000 dollars or so, then finish Denver first and continue the game without needing to come in less than 1st. Stock up on elite weapons like the bat and the stun gun in the Denver bonus track to. The bat is the better weapon though, because it has a longer reach and faster recoil. You should have enough money to beat the game and buy all professional gear when you get to New York. Don't go for tricks or glory in New York, play to win. You have to finish first so don't mess around. Pick a big car when you're ahead and crouch low. Hang on for as long as its moving and be sure to let go if you take a really sharp turn, you see a cop, or other bladers get ahead of you. Finishing New York in 1st place while skithin a cop is pretty fun and that can give the game even more replay value. All in All, Skitchin rulez.

    I loved this game growing up (was also into aggressive skating). The tricks are probably the hardest thing to get the hang of, but it is possible to nail them every time with practice. Once you get really good, you'll be able to figure out when you can do more than one trick and land it.

    This game is one of the best-kept secrets on the Genesis. One of the most fun games I can think of on the system. As far as the stunts go, just do ONE TRICK and land it until you get a better feel for the controls. If you get too fancy, you'll fail your landing every time.

    I use to go Skitchin all the time. Grew up watching that iconic scene from back to the future. Although not on a skateboard, I’d throw on my blades and start looking for people sitting at stoplights, not paying attention. Grab the back of their bumper, hold on, and hope for no sudden turns or braking. Faster than 40mph and I was out. I know this because When I got older I’d have my friends let me Skitch and tell me at what speed I’d let go. God, fun times.
