Squid with big appetites.

  • Squid have enormous appetites. The need to eat almost continually and will try anything that moves and its of a size they think they can handle. They are often seen watching fish or Rays foraging just to see if those animals disturb small creatures. Surprisingly their strike rates not perfect and they often miss their intended targets. Big schools of shimmering fish seem to confuse them. They wait patiently for a single fish to make a mistake. Catching live fish takes a lot of energy and time. A fishermen lure even if surrounded by live bait fish seems an easy option, but it will cost them dearly. Their compulsion to catch a lure is shown at the end of this video .Some lure sequences in slow Mo at the end of this presentation.

How do you capture footage of such amazing marine life Pang? I guess the short answer is time spent out there + scuba would help. I live Bellarine Peninsula / Corio Bay. Any tips on predicting visibility using tides and wind? Do you use berly to keep fish interested? Always look forward to you videos Pang, regards Max

Thanks for your comments Max. Short answer ..lots of diving with a focus on any interesting animal behaviour. File it away until there is enough to make a something interesting
out of it. I cannot advise you on conditions on the Bellarine Peninsula.
