I have many quartz points and clusters that I mined and found in Arkansas US several years ago..they still have rust stains...Also, I have Barkeepers Friend scouring powder. Thanks for the tip.
So this tin foil trick. Does it work? Does this basically stop any iron from re depositing back on to the specimens? Also does the tin foil need to be included with the cook? Or can it be just included with neutralizing soak? Thanks!
Without the tin foil the rocks can go yellow as I found out when I didn't use it. It's a tip from old timers who told me that this stops the rocks from yellowing in the acid. The rocks are cooked with the tin foil but one can experiment to see if it works with just the neutralizing soak. Acid definitely works better when warm
Can i soak mine in oxalic without heat? I have a few pieces from paeroa to thames myself that I'd like to get the iron off but don't have the means to provide heat. Please and thank you.
Citrine is basically quartz so it should come out sweet. The secret ingredient was the screwed up balls of tin foil and yes my later videos have less or lower music volumes as my brain injury can make my speech sound slurred at times.

The music's drowning out your voice at times but I appreciate the effort, information and being shown how to complete the process safely, cheers!
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
As long as you got the gist of it lol, it seemed to be OK after I rendered it.
Oh wow makes what I have found bloody amazing. I find clusters like your best little one but way bigger. I tend not to take anything less quality.
Was so happy when the music stipped nni could hear ya but rhen it came back again 😅... Ty for ur knowledge tho ❤
I think I get better with the sound as I make more videos, thanks for watching
That huge piece was amazing
Hey Gordon, can you tell me what the heat unit you use is? Is it a brewers set up? Any help would be appreciated
Hi, it is a jam jar sterilizer unit. It was the mother in law's that we inherited when they moved into a smaller place.

An old crockpot works well for smaller pieces. I have tried without heat just takes longer and not quite the same results as with heat.
@@NewZealandRocksDownunder Thank you, I appreciate the reply and the info.
Have you ever done citrine with oxalic acid? Also was the secret ingredient heat? Couldn’t hear sometimes over the music.

Great video, I can't wait to try it. One question though, when you said add tin foil to the acid rock bath. Did you mean aluminium foil?
Yes it is aluminium foil, that is what we call it here in New Zealand
