My Cub Cadet ZT1 has been hard to start since I bought it three years ago. Using your advice, I checked my throttle cable and (sure enough) the choke rod wasn't moving up at all. I adjusted it like you said and the thing fired right up! Thanks buddy!

I've been using starter fluid to start my JD D140 forever. This fix solved the problem!
    Thank you for the tip!!

Thanks for this valuable tip! I bought my Craftsman 42" riding mower in 2008 and I've been using starting fluid to start it when the engine was cold almost ever since I bought it. I finally got tired of taking off the air cleaner cover every time I wanted to mow so I searched for the reason this was happening today and found your video. I have never even tried to fix it until today. Thank you for providing relief from my 16 years of aggravation! I guess I'll get a new battery now because from now on, the only reason I will need to raise the hood will be to jump start it with my jump box (which I've been doing for quite a while). I figured if I had to open it up to use starter fluid, I might as well keep jumping it to start.

Holy crap.. thanks for the tip! My carburetor went bad in my rider and ended up with gas in the oil and a gas oil mixture spitting out of the exhaust. Not good! After replacing the carburetor, I was told the engine may still be shot and it still wouldn't start. After finding your video, and doing what you said it started right up. Works like a charm ever since! Thanks so much.

Thank you. Brought a used Husqvarna lawn tractor from a friend who was spraying g starting fuild in the carb to get it started. I adjusted the cable as you instructed and it starts easy with out starting fuild. Awesome video!

I can't thank you enough! The poor bastard who owned this mower before me struggled. The choke was only going to the halfway position. Exactly like your video showed. Maybe that's why I got it so cheap!😂

This is absolutely AWESOME !!!! I've been starting this mower for the last 2 years with starting fluid. I tore the carb down, replaced the plugs, air filter and fuel filter and this was the problem the whole time !!!

It randomly came to me when the mower was like 5 years old.. I said "its like the choke isnt choking" lol and here we are!

Every spring, my tractor had nearly a 2 minute cranking time. Nearly drained the battery ( sometimes it did and I had to recharge it), every 2nd or 3 rd year, and I am thinking it ruined the battery faster over time because it always took a long time to start. I always thought it was the fuel delivery system, as the filter was always half filled with air. You gave me the answer here, the choke was not going to choke, the throttle stayed at normal position during starting times. Thanks for the video on this, I would not have figured it out if not for this video.. I subscribed. It was a craftsman 24 hp lawn tractor.

Thank you Sir. That was exactly my problem. I started to tear down the carb. That was a simple fix. Again very helpful and awesome tip. Thank you again.

GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER!!! I have a Bad Boy Zero Turn I've been using starting fluid on for close to the last 10 years. It has NEVER started right. Your video and 20 minutes later it starts like a champ! No more starter fluid for me. You earned my Like and Subscribe!

Absolutely a Thumbs Up! I have a Troy-Bilt Bronco with a Kohler Courage 20. Over the years it has become harder and harder to start until the only way I could get it to start was with starter fluid. It would run fine once going. I've done the whole replace the carb, filter, plug etc. with no change. Your explanation helped me locate the adjustment screw on the throttle mechanism that had apparently loosened itself. For you Kohler guys it's on the left hand side inside the top of the rectangular cable case and is the Philips head screw with the spring. Mine had a drop of green paint on it. It only took a turn or two before it started right up, It runs great now. Thanks!

JD Z445 would NOT start without ether!wth!
10 minutes to adjust the cable, issue GONE! Starts like it should.
Great diagnosis and simple fix, thanks a ton!!

Watched 5 minutes of your video and I got me thinking, turned out the choke rod was in the wrong hole but there is a nylon bushing in one of the holes and the rod actually functions properly in the other position. Anyway without your video this problem would have taken me much much longer to sort out. You saved me so much time and trouble. This choke throttle system is terrible, it must confuse the assembly workers.👍

Just wanted to add: I’m sure this issue has sent many down a rabbit hole adjusting valve lash, float bowl, fuel filters and pumps etc etc.

just wanna say thanks. i did the intake manifold gaskets not long ago due to surging and it never started from cold after that without ether. turns out i put the choke rod in the wrong hole and this video inspired me to go back and have a second look which is where i noticed the mistake i had made.

Had a my JD D-130 sitting for almost two years with this problem even took it to JD service and they just put plugs in it but started doing it all over again, to think it was just an adjustment on the throttle cable. So thanks for info.

So everything else on my old tecumseh engine is right it has a new oem coil new carburetor the other guy put on new ignition solenoid flywheel key is good nothings broke on it the valve's are right and it gets the right amount of gas because after a long time of trying to start it up it starts up and runs good until i turn it off then it takes long to start up again so I'll check that.
I reset that on my new old Briggs intek 18 hp engine i seen it was unset from looking at my other engine exactly like it so set it to how it was and reset its engine speed to someone had it to far up running way to fast so its now good gonna finish that one up today then check that cable setting on the tecumseh
