    Great review Brian!
    I truly love the Mazda MX5, this is the next best thing after a motorcycle for fun factor. The MX5 has become a classic since 1989 but more importantly this car year after year is such a hidden gem because the market gone bonkers with electronics gadgets, complex engines with weak computers and sensors whereas the MX5 didn’t add anything outside of what is needed. The traditional analog gauges tells you a lot about the characteristics of this car. Great job Mazda!!! You guys nailed it. Now, let’s focus on your larger models…CX90 and CX70 make it good and simple, you will dominate that market too. Quit playing around with Hybrid and EV. Just focus on weight and power ratio….no one cares about high horsepower.

  • @josephschlueter4082
    @josephschlueter4082 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I believe one key factor in the weight distribution is that Mazda specifically engineers it to be 50/50 with a driver on board. In other words, while the static distribution might be close to 52/48, it is 50/50 when in action with a driver on board. I recall advertising for the NC demonstrated this with the car suspended and a driver in the seat reflecting perfect balance. And then, yes, it's what you do with it!

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Brian , this is what the 3rd or 4th video on the 2024 MX-5. To be fair though you dive into the details of each model & actually drive each one ! Well done. Now to finish off the 2024 MX-5 series how about giving us all a look at a snowy drive on winter tires ? Just a suggestion because so many people think it can't be done. My winter tires are stacked in the garage & as sad of a day that will be on changing over the car has proved that any fear it couldn't handle the conditions was totally wrong.

I keep my MX-5s at stock height & add Weather Tech mats also put 16 inch tires on for winter to handle the wonderful pot holes.

    Great review Brian on a great car. I love these, like you do, not least coz I’m a big fan of Japanese engineering. However I’m gonna offer up a perspective here which is never touched on by reviewers like yourself, but which you may find food for thought. Hear me out on this one coz at first it may seem deliberately controversial, but it’s not meant to be. I’m a genuine fan of these MX5’s, but at the same time massively frustrated with Mazda, and the ‘elephant in the room’ with this car.
    On the face of it, what we have here is truly a fantastic, reliable (very very important…Porsche & BMW are you listening!!?), lightweight, affordable (used) sports car. It looks great, handles superbly and is cheap to run. All that is true, yet behind all of it is in my view one of the biggest marketing and sales own goals in the history of car manufacture! That an intelligent, progressive, innovative company like Mazda could drop the ball on this one in the way they have is truly mind boggling!
    What I’m referring to is this. How many millions more potential buyers of this car would there have been if Mazda had just made 3 subtle changes to the ND versions. 1. Telescopic steering wheel adjustment, on the pre-2019 cars. 2. Seat height adjustment on all ND’s. 3. Two inches more room in total length from seat to pedals. Those 3 simple and obvious things would have given them millions more sales worldwide, by opening the doors to a whole new size/build demographic.
    How many potential buyers like me would have bought this car if it was just marginally more comfortable inside? I’m 6ft 5 inches with an average torso but long legs, and I cannot buy this car, much as I really want to coz I just don’t fit. Even for average size folks this car is a squeeze inside; why oh why Mazda?? If this car was only for the domestic Japanese market, I could understand it, but it’s not, it’s sold all over the world. It makes absolutely no marketing sense whatsoever. It’s one thing to make a car for a niche market; family, track, cruising, touring, sports etc. But who in the hell would think it’s a good idea to limit your own sales chances by making size (small) your niche market?? That just seems dumber than dumb, and that’s coming from a Mazda fanboy.
    At this point, someone usually comments about Mazda’s rationale about weight-saving with this car. But to me that’s a complete non-issue and a red herring. Most people who buy this car, will never track it, may well not be petrol heads, and just want a nice modern small lightweight sports car. Are we really meant to believe that the little bit of extra weight the above mentioned improvements would have made, would have impacted on them or their choice to buy it? I very much doubt it.
    When you see the figures for how many of these have sold, it’s clearly a huge sales success. But when you factor in how many could have been sold by making the car accessible to more than just the ‘under 5ft 6’ demographic, it’s an absolute and utter marketing failure of epic proportions.
    If you think that’s harsh, consider this. Mazda could have (and still could) clean up in this sector. What’s the competition; there is none, especially in terms of non aspirated 2 seater, sports cars, new or used. BMW Z4; only the older ones are NA, and they are now very old, and the newer ones are turbo and allegedly unreliable, and the newer one is turbo and a boat size-wise. Nissan 370 Z; Nice looking, robust, reliable, with great V6 engines, but virtually unchanged since its inception in 2009, and it shows in its archaic interior. It’s also not cheap if you buy anything other than an early model. Porsche Caymans; take your pick re. model. Great looking, great size, but between IMS, RMS, bore scoring, and super expensive parts, labour, servicing and maintenance costs, they’re not really an option for a lot of people. You can buy an MX5 out of warranty and know it will be reliable for as long as you keep it; who in their right mind wants a German sports car out of warranty?
    To really corner the market, Mazda should probably have considered making the RF a straight coupe design, rather than targa, whilst continuing to offer the soft top. That would offer great alternative (more reliable, more affordable etc) options to Boxters and Caymans.
    So Mazda could pretty much have this niche sector to themselves, (bar the die hard German fanboys those who would only ever want the Porsche or BMW badges!), if only they’d made the MX5 accessible to all sizes and builds.
    The MX5 is truly a great and legendary platform, but behind it all is for me a very very sad story of ‘what might have beens’ and lost opportunities, and that is such a huge shame for those of us who would love one of these little beauties. Someone at Mazda needs to seriously re-think this car, and stop making each successive version of it smaller than the last!!

I also like the unassisted steering and sound system that I can turn knobs on and not have to fiddle with the screen controls. In fact, if I could install a normal sound system like the NC has, I might be persuaded to go with the ND. I can always disarm the nanny tech stuff I don't want. Stock steering wheel is meh (too thin and I dislike when the shape has a rounded off edge that meets your palms - vs being perfectly round). I opted to buy an aftermarket wheel and swapped it out. That, a new shift knob and an axleback made this great (‘21 club w BBS/recaro/brembo package) car even more enjoyable.

    Every time I get serious about buying an ND3 I check the price and buy something else. So far I've chosen an R171 SLK55, a 2006 BMW Z4M, and a 2009 Porsche Boxster S with PDK. I think eventually I'll buy a Miata, but it will probably be an NC Club model. Enjoyed the video.

      ND drives better than nc...I think

      @@TheHigherpurpose- Nope. The NC drives great and so does the ND. I can’t say there’s any real difference. In fact I think the NC felt more roomy. I own an ND 2 RF GT and love it.

      @@TheHigherpurpose- I daily drive an NC for 4 years so I traded for the ND RF. I miss my PRHT and glove box and door bottle holders! The NC is a terrific roadster and I believe it’s the best overall because it’s fun and more practical. However the NDRF looks much cooler in the Soul Red.

    Loved watching the review. Miss my 2021 Nd 1.5 it was the best car I ever owned. Much nicer to drive than a Z3 1.9 I used to own.
    132 bhp is plenty of fun here in Scotland and saves you points and fines probably 😆

    Why “pump up your tire pressures” on a race track?

    • @WestsideCollectorCarStowage
      @WestsideCollectorCarStowage หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the same thought. Most people air them down from the stock 29 psi cold.

    • @jrms60r
      @jrms60r หลายเดือนก่อน

      Higher pressure will allow you to corner faster.

    • @BrianMakse

      This is a much broader conversation. If you're showing up for your first track day, you're not chasing lap times. Air up your tires.

    Beautiful car. But underpowered and so slow. Just look at the lap times from c&d lightening lap. 187 hp. Is it 1992? Come on Mazda s2000 had 240hp twenty years ago. Oh. I owned this car 2020 BBR club. And 2004 Mazdaspeed. So yes I have driven and owned one. It’s slow

      Always the people who have never driven one that have to comment on the MX-5 ! The Honda S2000 was a nice roadster for its time. The over 8000 red line was fun for a while. I daily drove a Acura Integra 1997 GSR for 17 years. The VTEC kicking in was a great sensation back in the day. AEM cold air intake with the stock exhaust had a growl that would scare people. The 2024 ND3 is a totally different car. For me I like the modern upgrades including Alexa built in to take my voice command directions & put them into Google maps taking 20 seconds then displaying the route on the infotainment screen. As an older driver the feature really goes over looked. Blind spot warnings in the side mirrors too. Also Alexa warned me of objects in the road 1/2 mile before passing them ! Really an outstanding car all around. Remember the early Porsches never had HUGE amounts of HP ( under powered by your standards ) but have always been looked at by many enthusiasts as " The Holy Grail " !

      The whole point of the MX-5 or Miata is not power. Sways ? You have never driven one I can tell that by your post ! Its made for drivers who want to drive. Not for someone with a ingrained muscle car attitude. 😎
