Now I adore Ronald Howard as much as I always adored his father Leslie Howard. What a great dynasty! And H. Marion Crawford is a wonderful discovery. He's one of the best in portrayal of Dr. Watson.
I was born in 1953, so i'd be in my crib as these were on. In fact where we live in Northwest Connecticut up until the arrival of the rotory antenna we could only get CBS from Hartford with any acceptable reception. You could live with a bit of picture static but if the audio didn't come through clean you were left to wonder "what did I miss?" These are excellent entertainment 7o years after their production.@@walterbosch9198
This reminds me of a woman I dated years ago. She was the HR person for a Kmart store but also worked as a "shoplifter" testing the security systems of other Kmart stores. If she was caught she showed her credentials and the store passed the test. He she wasn't caught, she marched back into the manager's office with the "stolen" merchandise and somebody was in trouble. I used to tell people I dated a professional shoplifter.
@@DavidSmith-sb2ixHe said “years ago.” Some of us are old-timers. Who knows what store security did in the past? That method was probably scrapped long ago. It’s very different now with employees fired for confronting gangs of thieves.
Magnificient service for security and the required strange and indifferent behavior by Holmes being misunderstood by Dr Watson and Lestrade but was well appreciated along with viewer's applause.
Loved the humor interspersed in these versions of Sherlock Holmes! My favorite Holmes and a stronger portrayal of Watson than other versions. The more recent Sherlock Holmes are far from endearing. In fact many are downright cold!

Watson as the cabbie is wearing the cloak that appears on different characters in at least five of the episodes in this series. It’s evidence that the series was made on a very small budget indeed.
To be fair, Watson did actually find out quite early on that Holmes was the thief, yet they portray him as being stupid for suspecting so. If the theft weren't an arranged setup, Watson would have saved the day. He would even had chosen what is right (reporting the crime) over his loyalty to Holmes.
It has always bothered me that they never give watson and lestrade credit for solving the case when in fact they did, so he wasn't as good as he thought but at the end they made them seem like dupes anyway. i mean they wrote it so he'd figure it out but then didn't give him credit..so frustrating!

2:38Watson mentioned Queen Elizabeth. By 1896 (as mentioned toward the beginning) there had only been one. But when this episode aired 11JUL55, Elizabeth the Second was in the third year of her 71-year reign. Just thought I'd mention that. May the Parmesan-Garlic sauce be with us.😒🙄😮💨
You know me being the romantic type it was lovely to see Holmes with the young woman at the dinner. But this Ronald Howards Sherlock Holmes and the Geoffrey Whitehead Sherlock Holmes are rather romantic :)
Ronald Howard is the best! He is humourous and kind. Jeremy Brett is weird. He blurts out words with no emotion. He never smiles. Ronald is way more handsome than his father. I can't believe he would be 103 if he were alive.
25:31: someone else stopped at that dare I say tender expression of the commissioner? 25:13: I still feel like the sound he makes in a most un-Holmes thing to do. XD

It's curious that the writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, wrote some great Sherlock Holmes stories using logic, deduction, etc, thought that Houdini could de-materialise when preforming his magic tricks, and was even fooled into believing in fairies by two teenage girls.

GASP! A tv show?! Not real? I'm shocked. :) Still, I go with my original post. Those actors mentioned are my fav. No other in the roles work as well for me. Not even the new version.

He certainly looks like his Dad Leslie Howard . This series with Ronald Howard is the best Sherlock Holmes I think. He’s more human and likable.

Class disguise by Watson ?? Pulling up his collar and pushing his hat down !? I'm sure that will fool Holmes !
another class act from Ronald Howard and Marion Crawford
15:20 is the funniest moment in the entire series imo, that expression and how he looks down xd
"A more than culinary vengeance." 🤪
if this episode was to be re-filmed in a comical form i could see Stephan Fry play the prof and Hugh Laurie play Holmes
My favorite Sherlock holmes. By far. The one with Jeremy Brett was so pretentious. I love this one, that has humor in it.
