- Hailed as the most faithfully filmed adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary characters. This acclaimed series stars Ronald Howard as the world-famous sleuth and H. Marion Crawford in a different portrayal of Dr. Watson than usual.
THE CASE OF THE GREYSTONE INSCRIPTION: Holmes and Watson are called to investigate Miss Channing's missing fiance,. The man apparently discovered the secret of a hidden treasure belonging to King Richard II which Laird Greystone wants to keep at any cost.
This actor is the best Sherlock Holmes.😊❤
Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX 🍕May the Sauce be with you 🍕
He’s so cute!
My father worked in the film industry & knew Ronald Howard (Sherlock) who was a great guy, but it was very sad that with the success of this American Series of Sherlock Holmes in the USA, he thought he had it made but the show practically destroyed his acting career & after several B movies, in the 1970’s Ronald gave up acting & opened an art gallery. In the 1980’s he wrote a book ‘In Search of My Father Leslie Howard (the Scarlet Pimpernel actor) whose Scheduled plane was shot down by the Germans over the Bay of Biscay in June 1943 which haunted Ronald.
I am delighted to at last get the chance to view this series, so thank you for uploading them& last week managed to purchase the full 39 episodes on DVD. 🌹
What a sad story! I truly enjoyed Ron Howard in this role and he sure does look like his father!
He did play an excellent part in Danger man KOROSHI (colour)
I'm thrilled that Ronald Howard had enough money to open an art gallery and didn't end up penniless like so many actors. He's great in this.
But why did it destroy his career?
@@pinkbeautytwinkle sorry for the late reply, but I imagine he was stereotyped as Sherlock Holmes and nobody else.
I love this series. Some of the best and funniest Sherlock Holmes adventures ever. 👍👍👏👏👏💕💕💕
One of my favorites! Know it verbatim…I love how everyone is always so well dressed…even the Greystones…holed up in a castle but looking like they’re heading out to a formal ceremony. That actress is so wholesome and beautiful.
The old detective classic are certainly much better than most of the current modern detective T.V. shows.
Yes, they are. Today's tv has no couth.
Mr Mich, I do most certainly agree with you, the (so-called) modern detective t.v. presentations are, in my opinion, NOT worth the money and the time spent on them, too very much of violence and of illicit sex 😢
I love the episodes that take place in old castles. It gives a great atmosphere to the show, along with the black and white filming.
I have watched loads of Sherlock Holmes movies/series with various actors portraying Mr Sherlock Holmes & Dr Watson. To me, both Mr Ronald Howard & Mr Marion Crawford, are my all-time no 1 favourite. 👍👍👍
These episodes bring a warm joy to my heart. How I LOVE them!
Absolutely wonderful episode! And this young lady is so brave&smart!
So, the actress followed the script? 😃

Watson " sometimes I think you'd say a trip to the moon on an umbrella is simple" 🤣
These are by far my favorite Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and Inspector Lestrade. In this episode, Archie Duncan is the father, Sir Thomas Graystone.
My parents were Scottish and they were not as mean as these two in fact they were very generous
And my dad couldn't swim but he was in the Navy as a engineer in world war Two in the Scottish navy

Awesome research!
Another presentation of a young and a beautiful lady 😊
A very good episode from the 1954 series featuring H. Marion Crawford and Ronald Howard. This episode maintains the high standards of plot, pacing, and acting expected from this fine series.
For everyone wondering about the fiance, yes, he was found and reunited with his staunch beloved. This was said (quickly) during that final supper scene. Whether or not he ever received his professorship is unknown, however.
Genius
Thanks for posting these Sherlock movies they are great. The other newer versions of Sherlock series pay too much importance to his battle with of opioids... these sure are great 👍
I thought I was the only one who noticed that. I really enjoy these old programs, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one.
I'm sure they didn't mention such things because it was 195O's television. 📺
It's so odd to see a Scotsman playing the bad guy. I had a Scottish friend who used to say, "A Scotsman's meanness is as rare as an Englishman's generosity. "
So true lol. Worked with many sassanachs and been drinking with them, tight as two coats of paint. Lol.
funny, my brain read that saying in Scottish accent

No, the secret is not to imagine any of the accents featured in this show are remotely realistic 😄 I love the show but probably for the wrong reasons. I guess acting was not a profession the working class could easily get into back then.

I suggest if you haven't seen them, search for Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes. Nigel Bruce is a bit of a card but Basil Rathbone plays an astounding Holmes. However these are full length 1940 movies. I prefer the old movies but also got hooked on this series.

How odd to see the actor who usually plays Lestrade do Lord Greystone...
Also, "The Haunted Gainsborough" in this series.
The clever investigation and the implications of inscription revealed with treaures and congrats!
Deliously sinister! A masterpiece of the genre
This show lifts our spirits.
I really like H. Marion Crawford as Dr. Watson.

Carl Napp yes I figured it out as well that senior greystone was Lestrade himself !!!!
lol, so it's not just me......
LOL - if he's not there wait for the Scotsman :}
That Thomas Greystone sure looked a LOT like Inspector Lestrade! :-) Nice to hear Archie "Little John" Duncan use is Glasgow accent instead of (badly) trying to hide it. Now watch "The Haunted Gainsborough".
What I don't like about this episode is that the owners of the treasure didn't get what was theirs, and were put in prison; if anything, the fiancee should have told them where it was. The treasure shouldn't have gone back to the crown.
Sir...Arthur Conan Doyle had to write the story that way or the Queen would have unknighted him!
@@Heart2HeartBooks That might have been a reason for him to stop writing Sherlock Holmes stories! 😅
You are quite right. The older Detective movies are much better than now
Always liked this shows pacing and that it was not a word for word transcript from the written cannon.

The "Musgrave Ritual" certainly, I noticed it myself. But how does the "Blanched Soldier" come into it?
Замечательная серия: преступники -- в тюрьме, жених и невеста снова вместе, и Холмс и Ватсон наконец-то могут поесть свою вкусную еду! Да еще благодарность королевы в придачу!

Good to see Archie Duncan in true style! KAN
Hands up the people who would have given the treasure to her majesty or kept it... Myself I would have given her majesty a tooth pick and kept it all. Excellent series I like the way they use the same actors, but they just blend in
Ok so who the hell were the two poor souls whose skeletons were locked in there? They never even blinked at them! Old Richard Greystone must have been some piece of work!

If this were true, Victoria would have absolutely no right to Richard's treasury. Just because she was queen, she is not a direct descendant of Richard and Richard would have had to claim his property.
It would be an interesting trial but I think the Crown would prevail. I believe the Crown's possessions belong to the Crown, not to a person. Anyone know British law?

Stuff the letter from the queen, I'd take the gold piece any day.
You get 1 piece, I get the rest.
Not really. The gold coin would appreciate in value, but a personal letter from Queen Victoria would sell for quite a lot. In the end, it would likely worth more financially.
You bloody pilferers , The letter from the Queen would never be sold by Holmes. The pride the English have of their Queen is worth more than any monetary remuneration they could ever receive.
We're not all monarchists.
Nobody really knows what happened to Richard II. It is assumed that he died in prison of illness or starvation but no one is really sure.
But we know about Richard III. Watch the 1939 version of "Tower of London", starring Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff & Vincent Price.
Wait! Wait! Wait! 25:44 - What about the fiance??
Watch the ending again.
That's a nice evening gown she's traveling in, though not very practical. And a huge plot hole at the end, those Scots were no' verra bricht.
IN WHICH she's traveling.
There might be some inbreeding among Inspector Lestrade's Scottish relatives. They all look pretty similar in all the episodes anyway.
Along with the oh so realistic looking equally shockingly bad dental hygiene that comes from excessive tobacco smoking.... the makeup people of the time were fantastic on this.... (unless of course the actor actually never brushed his teeth).... blirk!

I think Sheldon Reynolds had a small, tight troupe of actors. Many play different roles in this series.
Yes, he can blame you Holmes! Shooting a pistol inside an apartment is just rude and wrong!!
Wowww well done 🥰👍
It’s the same actor who plays the inspector
NO! REALLY? 😒🙄
Archie Duncan is at his best in this role.
Okay, now. This is the third time in this series where I have seen jabs at the Scots being cheap! It's rather obvious. I mean the jab, not that Scots are cheap. I guess it would sound better to say that they are frugal.
A rose by any other name...Q. Who invented the copper wire? A. Two Scots fighting over a penny.
This is very funny to me. My grandfather was 100% Scottish and so was his wife. My mother said they never waisted anytj
Anything. My mother’s teeth were very crooked. My grandfather wouldn’t pay the dentist to have them straightened. So the dentist said he would straighten her teeth for free. She was beautiful, but her front teeth were horrible and he didn’t want her to go through life that way. She stayed with her aunt, who was a nun in the city, so the dentist could work on her teeth.
Considering they didn't have a lot of money they do a great job, kinda quirky portrayal but it's funny.

Thank you
1:01 -1:14 Very true Holmes. I doubt I could ever stay mad at Holmes, lol.
A frugal Scottie! Stereotype perpetuation!
I ow-raged! And amused.
Wow, that treasure was hidden for 600 years! What became of it then? Did it all go to the Queen? Didn't that other Richard get a share? Where is it today? In a museum? I wonder how that candle Holmes lit when he entered managed to stay fresh enough to light. What became of the young man who they put in the tower? Was he rescued?
The "other Richard" lived 600 years ago (Richard the Second to be exact). It's rather hard for a dead person to receive things. The young man was rescued. remember the two villains were arrested so logically the young man was freed (and hopefully granted his professorship). The candle was able to stay lit because they were not in the room long enough for the flame to consume all of the oxygen that entered the chamber when the door was first opened. The treasure was returned to the crown, but citizens could make an application to receive a piece of it at the time (Watson tells Holmes that himself at the end). Even though I am a huge fan of Mr. Holmes, I must point out that unfortunately, he is a fictional character created by the brilliant mind of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and as such never existed.
@@arentkvh3431 - but .... but ..... who were the two skeletons?
Likely they were members of the Greystone family that found the treasure but were unable to figure out how to escape the room. Remember what Holmes said: "It seems your ancestors arranged for intruders."
@doctorwho0077 Yes he was based on Dr. Joseph Bell and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was indeed a medical doctor, but you have missed the point I was making. The character Sherlock Holmes was fictional. He did not exist at all. He was based on a real person true, but the fact remains that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories, while excellent, are just works of fiction. Perhaps you should have read what I wrote a little more carefully, rather than jump to conclusions?

The best Sherlock Holmes. , There are many films and series on Sherlock Holmes, but this is really the best. Ron Howard is a very good Sherlock Holmes, the atmosphere of London in the time of Conan Doyle is recreated, some stories are invented and don't follow the books nevertheless the atmosphere is there.
It was mostly filmed in France
