I was wondering you included the pasta on your list of materials. "That stuff is way too fine and brittle to be of use!" 😃That's a really clever (and cheap!) way of making spent shell casings!
To do something this well one must have the vision of the end goal. Unfortunately I don't obtain said vision. Major fail time and time again. Much respect to anyone who can accomplish builds with this quality.
Personally, I listen to that ten year old kid in my head, who first wandered into a hobby store, drawn by the sound of Iron Maiden and smell of super glue. If he thinks it’s cool, then I’m happy. Also I just want to make cool settings to play a game on with my friends, win or lose. I assure you, you can build awesome things. If you ever want feedback or want some help feel free to reach out to me on any of my platforms. You got this!
This is absolutely bloody brilliant. I have been making some scenery recently and this is by far the best tutorial I've found on TH-cam and the one that needs the least specialist materials! Thank you so much for sharing mate!
I appreciate the kind words Cade! I’m currently working on a spiritual successor to this video, glimpses of which you can see on my Instagram. As always if you have any questions hit me up wherever and I’ll do what I can to help :)
For the first time ever I'm actually considering making terrain... love this man, keep it up, plus I subbed. Also that Knight's Paint Scheme is Dope. Did you paint it yourself and if so, do you remember what colours you used?
Absolutely have a crack at building some terrain. It's the perfect setting to experiment and practice if you're worried about making mistakes on your models (which is also OK!). I had to dig out my paints to make sure I give you the right names. Also you'll notice a theme with me here; the painting method is super easy: The knight frame was primed black, then drybrushed with leadbelcher, and then nuln oil wash afterwards. The armour panels were primed white, then painted with ushabti bone. When that was dry i applied xereus purple. just used regular masking tape and blue-tac to keep lines tidy. Then I did the transfers, sealed it with spray varnish, and when i'd given that a day to dry i applied agrax earthshade wash, using a cloth/tissue to dab off the excess. lenses are painted dark blue, with light blue highlights
No worries. I first built it for a game of my own regiment vs the Death Guard. Figured a brutal trench fight would be a fun setting. Don’t forget to make some cover for your tanks/ artillery. Kriegers would be sure to make sure they’re well protected! Any questions hit me up on any of my socials
Thankyou! More subs would of course be nice, but I've no idea how the algorithm works and I don't want to annoy people on reddit or whatever? If a handful of people find something useful in what I'm doing, i'm chuffed.
genuinely, really nice end results mate. i encourage the investment of Blue crafting foam, its like 15 quid oof amazon for like 10 A4 sheets that are nearly an inch thick, and they are perfect for those pillbox bunkers. its just a lot easier to work with than those foam mats, at a comparable price.
Your work is stunning mate. I really want to try this. I love your spaghetti bullet casings. Great idea. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. I'll follow you on insta too.
Thanks for checking out the channel mate!. The follow is appreciated and I hope you’ll enjoy my future projects. If you ever have questions, even if it relates to an older project or whatever, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Loved the video my dude! Just finished glueing the foam together, can't wait to have some awesome trenches for my death korps to fight over, keep up the great work!
I’ll try to make mention of the dimensions in future videos :) Honestly for this build I didn’t use a ruler for measuring at all; I simply kept a model handy so I could place them on the terrain to make sure the scale looked right. With trenches and bunkers I find they’re quite forgiving for measurements as normally they’re going to be beat up and battle scared anyway! Artillery barrages take their toll on even the tidiest fortified positions. This applies for whatever game systems you’re doing but here’s how I worked mine out: The “height” of the trench wall was at least two layers of eva foam matting tall (because this way a guardsman can still see over, even if I then added some sandbags). The duck boarding areas the models stand on are as deep as the largest models I want to be able to stand on them safely (in this case Death Guard Terminators for when my friend inevitably teleported them into my lines) The inside of the bunkers were measured to be tall enough that primaris space marines and other heroes could stand inside, even if they’re waving a big sword, but the firing ports were positioned to best suit the mortal guardsmen defenders; again two layers of Eva tall. Hope this makes sense?
I do see the resemblance but sadly no that was just a coincidence! I had been playing a lot of games against the Death Guard and liked the idea of a brutal trench fight against such a foe. Naturally any troops fighting Nurgle would also want full face masks and kit to keep the muck off them and their gear…not unlike the Mud Troopers from Star Wars
I can’t guarantee that it will be super soon, but they are in the pipeline. Just want to make sure i have a method that is cheap and easy enough for everyone to be happy with the results
Thanks dude! I’ve had zero issues of the filler coming off the Eva. The only times it has come off is when I’ve deliberately removed it. The combination of using a sturdy basing material like mdf and then painting with acrylic/PVA mix makes the pieces incredibly durable. Other pieces I’ve made using this exact method have lasted years in a gaming club, that often experiences large variations of temperature and where the storage method for the terrain is “throw everything into one big tub and push it under the table”. I uh, really like using it
Thanks for the input, and no problem: I'll add jungle terrain to my to-do pile. It will focus on making it look like a humid hell rather than a garden. You can reach me on instagram or email me directly with photos if you'd like some more direct help with your jungle terrain in the meantime.
Put the dirt in a baking dish, or metal tin, and heat it in the oven. I usually do about 150 Celsius for about half an hour. You’re not cooking it, you’re just making sure there’s no bacteria, seeds or other critters alive in it. Last thing you want is weeds sprouting in your work. When it’s cool just put it in a spare takeaway container. Black sand will be fine; you’ll be painting it anyway. Use a fine mesh colander to seperate fine grains from larger ones if you’re not happy with the texture
I use a generic gap filler from my local hardware shop. It’s essentially spackling., the sort you would use if you accidentally put a hole in drywall. Acrylic variant is fine
That’s a fair concern; if the unpainted pasta gets wet, perhaps you’d have problems. Sealed with a combination of acrylic paint and glue, thus depriving and mould from the moisture and oxygen needed to form and you’ve got no problem. I’ve used this method for years (about 5) and have never had mould form, even on terrain pieces left in public club rooms.
The gap filler putty is air drying, and I find leaving them in the sun for at least 30 minutes should be enough to make it workable. Then again I’m in Australia and our sun doesn’t joke around! Play it safe, make yourself a coffee and maybe give it a couple hours if it isn’t dry to the touch
@@reiniermels9288 Ahh, no problem at all. 10 minutes at 100 Celsius, or over 200 Fahrenheit. You're not trying to cook the sand, but just make sure its hot enough there is nothing left alive in there. Don't want seeds sprouting, or critters eating your work...
Yes you can use a glue gun. Pva is cheap and easy to find but is much slower. Be sure to set the glue gun it to “low” heat if possible, or turn it off and allow to cool when it gets too warm. EVA foam is quite forgiving as a building material
True! Also not made of foam and cardboard either. This is a quick, cheap way to make wargaming terrain for casual games. If you have the time and space to make a zigzagging network with decoy lines etc that’s great.
Rediscovered this looking for terrain for Trench Crusade, shared with my wife and probably our first big terrian project!
Awesome mate! Hope it leads to a great play experience for all
Same here bro
Same here!
Same. TC is inspiring my hobby brain again
Those bunkers look amazing! Definitely trying this for my trench terrain! Thank you for the video!!
Dude the shell casings…. Brilliant idea!
I've got about 10 packets of DAS clay, finally I have a use for them as sandbags.
Great video, man.
The temptation to just put sandbags on everything is real! On my tanks, on their own, on buildings...Totally underrated material
Here for Trench Crusade!! Great video!!
Absolutely brilliant! I can't wait to get some stuff together and get started on my own stuff, also the pasta shell casing was genuinely genius!
Thank you . Soon you’ll have the same problem as me: so much terrain you run out of space to keep it!

Brilliant! Totally trying this next week!!!
Absolutely. Win or lose, a game is always improved with some home made terrain :)
So grateful for this video looks great I have gathered all the bits I need just need to make it now. Thanks 😊
Thanks for that trick with the Pasta! Why didn’t I see that sooner!
Always happy to share ways to portray carnage! Enjoy :)
Excellent work mate - looks fantastic
Thanks! It’s an easy and fun terrain set. If you ever give one a go and have questions or want to share, hit me up wherever
Very cool. These will be good for WW1/WW2 & Mimban for Star Wars Legion as long as I keep things generic enough
Oh course! For Star Wars you could just add a removable sc-fi antenna array on top of the bunker or something similar. A simple but useful project!
Brilliant man
Thanks dude!
Absolutely love this video.
Those pasta bullets are great.
Man this looks so good, you did an amazing job. I think I will try myself, keep the great work up! Subbed.
That’s great to hear!
