    One thing I've noticed with peoples trench terrain is that it's always flat and too uniform. A lot of people also don't bother to have wood or sand begs to use against the walls. In a rain storm those walls wont hold. You'll literally drown the soldiers in mud.

      Yes,don’t want my terrain looking like everyone else’s, I want mine to look savage, dangerous and not like it’s came out a box.

    Nice to see you back, my man! Hope you had a good Yule season.
    Little tip I found helpful for colouring the stirring sticks.
    Take a small Tupperware box and pour in some strong, black tea. Lay the sticks in and weight them down.
    Leave them for a few hours to take on the colour.
    When you bring them out, lay them flat and sprinkle some fine coffee powder on parts for heavier staining. Then allow to dry completely.

    Homemade terrain is the best. It takes a lot of work, but the end result is 100% worth it

    This looks like a lot of work but I'm glad you stuck with it, the end result was outstanding!
    I think I'd want to make the trenches a bit wider and the walls not quite as tall, but I've got big clumsy hands so maybe moving minis around in these isn't as bad as I'm imagining.

    For me the moment it came alive was when you added the dirt in the corners. Honestly, soldiers can be shocking at housekeeping.
    It's a very different style of modelling, of course, but this project set me to thinking about pop-up book style modular terrain, since storage space is always at a premium in my life. And I think there should be ways of making folding internal cross-braces so it could be tolerably rigid. Hm. It wouldn't have the dirt and barrels, though.

  • @CrownTarget
    @CrownTarget ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks very nice
    Depending on your game play and which particular 40k system you choose to utilize with it.... I would make a few 'frontline' trench pieces so that your guard, or whomever can set up inside, remain in partial cover and shoot out over the no-man's land.... otherwise, (ignoring objectives) a Tau player could just keep to their edge and merely shoot (en mass) you down as you try to rush them with your unsupported forces. These 'frontline' pieces would be easy. A "L" shape towards the no-man's, like a step, and a "I" tall straight wall towards the rest of the trenches. For fun and variety, you might try to make some "bunker"/"room" sections that would be roofed (removable of course for miniature access). These 'rooms' might house supplies or enemy intel, or other 'objectives' that would be useful in representation of the game mechanics. You could use the same size modules footprint but make a plasti-card "I beam" frame at the corners and then atop all four sides (like a hollow metal cube frame). A flat piece of plasti-card can lay over top as roofing. You can line several of these in tandem to make larger 'rooms' and the frame style will keep the roof segments aligned and structurally secure for miniature running over top. Lined up, it would be like a large room with support pillars/columns equidistant along the center. Perhaps make a 'room' further in reserve that is unroofed for artillery installment.
    Just a thought.
    Cheers, mate.
    Looks grand.
    Keep it up!

    • @CrownTarget
      @CrownTarget ปีที่แล้ว

      By building them 'empty' you can swap in and out any genre specific interior 'scenery' you choose to place inside for the future of your project. By not glueing down specific 'objectives', you further extend the 'modularity' of your project to it's optimal extent.
      Where these rooms meet, expect your 'columns' to be bigger (girth) than if it were single 'rooms' as you are placing the supports directly next to another. 2 rooms: double support width where they meet, 4 rooms (in a square): the 'center' post will be 4x while the meeting 'edges' will be 2x.
      Plan accordingly so they are flush and line properly for a quality end result.

      Hahaha I love it. Pretty much how my mind works too. Now I have loads of pieces, I can easily add all kinds of additional parts depending on the need at hand. Because of the height of the trenches/tunnel you can set it up easily so that it can really create some interesting choke points where Los is completely blocked unless you go through the door of death haha. So many possibilities but the greatest complement for me is that it sparks your imagination to think about what you could add yourself. Thanks for watching and getting involved 👍

      Yes, I give it a quick blitz in the oven, about 20 mins on a lowish temp. Dries everything out nicely and kills any bacteria etc.

    • @subascosauce8288
      @subascosauce8288 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I say…why the hell not! Mix it up, make it your own game, no matter what, in war, trenches are very useful aren’t they.

    • @creativecuts7803
      @creativecuts7803  ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. I set out to build some trenches and ended up with a labyrinth of tunnels. Could easily be adapted to a spaceship interior or the interior of some great hall etc

  • @Bluecho4

    Obvious additions to this terrain would be pillboxes, forward command centers, and a ruined vehicle (maybe use a tank/jeep toy or cheap model vehicle, rather than proper GW models).

  • @8bitbonsai

    arent the trenches way too deep for 40k? if you have minis in the trench they cant schoot out

    • @creativecuts7803
      @creativecuts7803  ปีที่แล้ว

      The trenches - kind of morphed into a kind of tunnel I guess. My idea was to create a way for troops to be able to move freely from enemy fire, but with the inclusion of ladders and ramps, when the troops are ready and in position the can erupt over the front line and most likely be met with a hail of bullets.

    i'd suggest turning up the volume of your voice. this video is extremely quiet and i have to literally double my volume to where i usually have it. the music is also a lot louder compared to your voice than most videos, so if you only turn up your voice the music should be fine as it is.
