This was a great build to watch. I gotta be honest, my jaw dropped when you combined the Snot Goblin ruins on top. The single piece they made was so much more than the two, awesome in their own right, individual pieces.
Seconding, my jaw dropped as well! They work so well together! Instantly got flashbacks to Fallout 3 where you have to rescue Riley's Rangers :D
DUDE. The tip on what to do with the extra two part epoxy putty was amazing. Those sort of solutions to universal problems like that are SO satisfying.

See now this is some ruined building I could get behind! That looks amazing man! you did a fantastic job of pulling from the source material, and the wood strips and columns are such an easy way to add that 'neoclassic' look.

Very impressive, you really managed to capture the the results of a war-torn city. A lot of terrain pieces are more Gothic architecture or standard fantasy, so it's nice to see something creative.
Not a 3D printer in sight! So refreshing to get videos where the majority of us can hope to build what's on screen. This looks absolutely great man, using pre trimmed wood was such a great idea!
The broken concrete sections forming staircases reminds me a lot of Gears of War architecture, both convenient for the players and being plausibly formed during the conflict. Great work as always!
Very cool mr hobbyworkshop! 🥰🐶👌 when u said u thought about adding an Aquila I imediately thought u should have added some metal or magnets in that area before painting, so u could magnetise an Aquila for on it if u want in a particular game, if course u could add any sign etc 🥰😉🐶

I really like it. This makes me want to make my own hive city board one day that’s a full 4’ x 6’ but also has tall vertical skyscrapers with interlinked bridges
Did you see the skyscraper build zorpazorp made? Using old gw kits. That might be the most ridiculous set of skyscrapers I have seen in a build.

This is probably the coolest terrain build I've ever seen!
It blew my mind when you put the Snot Goblin piece on top. Fantastic work, gorgeous and it captures a lot of the neoclassical lowers of skyscrapers you can find in many Western cities. I had a chance to take a professional tour of my city of Tulsa and the oil barons here were creatures of the early 20th century, when Egypt was being dug up and shown around. It struck me that the fantastical psudo-Egyptian art-deco of the lower, highly visible parts of the buildings demonstrate to me that you could create Neoclassical, "Neo-Egyptian," etc, all capturing art deco for similar pop pieces that when disassembled wouldn't look out of place as a backdrop in D&D.
This is why I love this channel and your artwork. It is a huge peev of mine that every time I see a "ruined building" type piece of terrain, there never seems to be any rubble around it. It's always this collapsed or bombed out building, where someone apparently has come by to keep things tidy by picking up all the pieces of the building that have fallen off. Apparently, they never have time to just demolish and rebuild the structure itself, but at least those pesky pieces of buildings and structures that fell off are no longer junking up the place!
In short, I love this build. It has both the cool scenery of the building and façade while also having the rest of the building where it should be... laying around in piles as rubble and collapsed areas. And THAT is one of the things that makes this look so realistic, while just about all the other collapsed building terrain that I've seen, just never seems to look right.
It honestly took me a while to notice this detail in my hobby journey, but once I did, I just can't un-notice it! Thanks Eric, for not fueling my unreasonably strong hatred for typical Urban Ruin builds! 😆 And awesome job as usual.

Using Gesso as a sealant is a master stroke sir. Previously I would mix cheap acrylic with wood glue on my foam core and XPS builds. Will definitely need to give that a go. Also bonus points for the use of the word "magnanimous".

This is just amazing that wash just made everything pop like crazy and when you added the skyscraper I was completely sold. It really demonstrates that with the right finish you can integrate retail and home grown seamlessly

Another great build with wit and tips. You didn't mention it out loud, but I played back twice the way you pushed the toothpicks (rebar) through the foam with the eraser end of a pencil. Soooo useful... You are a master of the craft!
I don't know why I didn't see this earlier. The rubble is a major difference and I am going to remember it. Especially that layered effect that effectively allows models to stair step to the playable area. Well done sir.

The architect in me got so happy when you used all the appropriate terminology for the construction (lintel, architrave, parapet, etc.) Fun fact, the style that you used for the cornice is called a "dentil row" because of its resemblance to teeth, with "dentil" being Latin for "tooth" Great work!

Brilliant work Eric. I like the use of junk or cheap items as the base strucuture and once processed with paints, primers etc you have a quality looking scene. I don't play Warhammer but find diorama construction fascinating.
The sound effects are really adding to the production value and general ambiance of the video.

Something I might have done to the frieze is hide magnets there and made pieces that fit over that in modular way so you have it clean, have motto or emblem there or even a part of a motto or emblem that got damaged in the what ever destroyed the building. That way you can keep it setting neutral while at the same time making it so that there's some detail there.
I love it! One thing I would do is add some of the snot goblin modular pieces in between the ruins, to further sell the idea of a ruined skyscraper. Either way, amazing build!

What an amazing instructional video. You are both creative and thorough. I hope others will use your ideas to build buildings and other terrain for their gaming boards, or tables. It will be time consuming, for sure, but it will save others plenty of money, versus purchasing their buildings and terrain from the gaming companies directly. 👍👍😁

this is so sick, i like the GW ruin kits a lot but this one feels like it does the setting so much more justice. Would love to play on a board made up of a bunch of these. Your videos continue to make me want to move to a part of the country where not everyone lives in a 600sqft apartment and have homes with plenty of space for terrain as always.
This looks great, I have no problem seeing that this is a bombed out and ruined skyscraper. Hope to try something with the same kind of materials in a little bit smaller scale sometime in the future.
Looks amazing! When you put the other ruin on top of it it was like "BAM" the scale looked spot on, which is something I find a lot of 40K terrain lacks. If you think about it, the foot print of a modern skyscraper is bigger than the table we play 40K on. My only critique is that it could use more weathering and layers of coloured flocking and pigment powders, but it's awesome looking as-is.
This build brought to mind the scene of the dropsite massacre, just as Horus chem bombs the planet! Wonderful build, definetely adding this idea to my table and convinced me to grab the new 30k box as well!

This was a very big help for me. I have some resin decorative pieces printed and was thinking of using pink insulation foam as fortress walls. This video helped me realize what to do to incorporate my decorative pieces. This is for my army display board for a GT. Thanks!

I once built something very similar to it, but decided to cut it into three pieces wich still fit together to form a big one if needed. A very handy way to create a modular board
I love the terrain builds like this and like that factory you did a while ago. Something about the realism with 40k components/inspiration really speaks to me.

An idea I've been toying around is to have some extra skyscraper ruins and terrain pieces sitting next to the gaming board. Just leave a bit of room for the players to move around.
Embed a few magnets (or small bits of ferrous metal) into the frieze; then you can make swappable signage or other effects.
Very cool. Liked making terrain more than the gaming 'in the day'. Tip, slightly watered-down plaster painted on is great for textures of all sorts.. can be layered, grit mixed in etc. Great for all kinds of terrain.
Those dioramas at the end were amazing.
for extra green stuff and modeling putty you can get yourself silicon brick molds and put it inside and use in rubble terrains . Or just make normal bricks , or if you play with nurgle you can use it to make small balls and later cut them in half to use as boils or something like that

I really loved this. Was worried about how you were going to paint inside around all those corners but you got in by not putting the roof down.
The washes did wonders. I would have loved to see some small scatter or dirt around the fronts also but amazing either way.

Priming is always my favourite part of the process as well. There's just something inherently pleasing in seeing all those disparate elements coalesce into a single piece before your eyes.
Yeah, it's the point where whatever you making starts looking like one thing and not as a bunch of bits randomly stuck together
That was a great build. Those columns could come in handy for some builds for Reign In Hell. Going with a Greco Roman look on some of the terrain for a whole Dante's Inferno look. Those columns would do nicely.

One small critique would be to chip off some of the smoother surfaces on the walls and on the backside of the building just to make it appear rough. I suppose this would be my own preference if I was building this terrain piece but either way I didn’t build it and everyone has their own preference when adding as much or as little details as they like.
Regardless this ruined building turned out amazing and I would love to battle it out amongst the ruins with my Post Apocalyptic/ Sci-fi miniatures!
The thing that I might have done is either scribing more stonework into it or filling the larger gaps in the front of it. They seemed to stand out quite a bit there in the end.
