    As an H1B tech worker in the US, thx for the vid. Moving to Canada has always been an option for me but I've got a nice life here so been reluctant. This vid answers a lot of my doubts. Cheers!

      No point. Almost everyone who lived in US and moved to Canada hates it, myself included. I went to India due to family reasons and realized after studying and working in US for 10 years, impossible to adjust back in India on long term. Came to Canada thinking of getting passport as backup, and returning to India later. Overall its really bad option, I have spent 20 months here, 16 more months to go. Don't know if I can even sustain that much time here.
      India has its own pains, Canada has its own. But India has family.

    CDN companies generally have lower salaries than the US. US H1Bs can move their technology jobs to Canada utilizing specialized EOR companies like Syndesus and keep the high US salary.

    Came to Canada as a student back in 2018 to study Master's in uOttawa.
    The Computer Science journey so far has been fantastic and now settled here happily as a Canadian citizen.
    I would agree the opportunities are less but the welcoming nature of the country has it's own perks as well.

    Hey Harnoor, you've covered most of the things. I moved from the Bay Area to Vancouver in March and the salary drop was close to 40%. I heard the same stories from many of my friends who also had to unfortunately move to Vancouver due to no H1B, from Seattle and other places and they also had the same drop.
    Almost all commodities are way more expensive than the US and you're left with very little in hand. If one leads the same lifestyle in San Francisco or Seattle, they can still save close to 3k every month which is a far cry in Vancouver.
    Especially for tech workers, financial growth in Canada is very slow compared to the US. It would be nice if you'd have covered that.

      Not really. I had admit from University of Waterloo and Texas A&M University. University of Waterloo expected me to pay fees despite financial aid, Texas A&M gave me a research grant giving 100 % tuition waiver + month stipend. I actually earned in US and published many papers during my master's. If you are an average student just wanting to move out of India, Canada. If you are a IIT/NIT top student, US will always be the top choice as they offer free education from research grants.

    Please also a make video for experienced software engineers which is a best decision to make whether getting a PR in Canada or getting a H1 B in USA ????

  • @makarandumarji55
    @makarandumarji55 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    US is easier to find jobs provided if you are in the field of anything related to computers, not when it comes to Manufacturing or Mechanical or any other field . If you are on H1-B it’s difficult to find jobs now because of this H1B transfer hassle. You will be happy in Canada only if you are in software field (provided if you are coming from USA, as salaries are some what higher than other fields). US engineers concentrate on skills rather than running after PR (which is so hard to get it in the US, it’s literally impossible nowadays obviously conditions apply). I don’t blame the students to run after PR in Canada bcoz they are not at fault the system is at fault.
    Also , not trying to de-mean the gentleman in this video , but 100k in Atlanta vs 100k in BC or for that matter anywhere in Canada are not similar, there is more to it. Hope this makes sense! When you move from US to Canada , you are looking at a potential pay cut of 30% on an average.

    In Canada, 'software engineer' is a regulated profession. Generally, you need a 4-yr of engineering Bachelor degree; and the program needs to be CEAB (Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board) accredited. There is a path for software engineers to become Professional Engineers (P.Eng.) through provincial licensing.
    Recently, Alberta relaxed the 'software engineer' title for tech sector. People in CS and IT can call themselves "software engineers" in Alberta. However, if the work involves applying engineering principles, it is still regulated by APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta). So far, other provinces have not followed Alberta's lead.

    Problem with Canada is type of tech jobs are very narrow here. Sometimes software/embedded and few other specialization can find job here, but others cannot. Imagine you are a mechanical/biomedical/aerospace engineer in US working at Principal engineer level. You move to Canada on PR to realize there are no jobs for you. Then whatever government jobs are there requires multiple years of Canadian residency.
    I have seen experienced engineers with masters and PhD forced to drive Uber in Canada just to rent 1 BHK for family of 4! I have studied and worked in US and now living in Canada. I am living here as after 20 months I realized this country is a scam, and 16 more months for passport. If I had seen this face of Canada, I would have not come here. But since there is 16 more months left, so now I just want to take passport and leave this country.
