14 years in H1b myself, it’s been a fun ride. You can’t win playing defense, take each job as a learning experience and you’ll grow as a professional and a human in the US. Don’t worry about job loss, family separation etc. Keep a positive mindset and enjoy everything you do. Be curious and embrace every opportunity instead of worrying what others experiences were like. Your experience will be unique!

Very very true!!! Especially with covid and the current travel restriction, living in the US on a temporary visa is so much pressure. And this affects the whole family. Frankly, the jobs in any other part of the world are just as good as the ones in the US. The only difference is pay. If you are ok to forego that, just move back.

This video is as real as it gets. I have been in the US for 18 years and I am just fortunate to have a job. For all of the 18 years the thought of losing my job was stressful. Having a family to feed, Americanized kids, visa renewals and shifting policies just added to the stress. There are no guarantees of permanent residency with the immigration policies as they are today. So please keep that in mind as is mentioned in the video.
That's the price you chose to pay. We all do.

@@Qpqql with the current approval trends for EB 2 and 3 categories from India about 25-30 years *assuming* something gets done to fix immigration for priority dates after 2019. Else there are 200K applicants and 2K gcs given out per year. You do the math. EB1 though is much quicker. Maybe 1- 1.5 years. I think EB1C is the route

@@mohammad5006 applied for GC in year 2, the day my company allowed sponsorship application. You have no idea how it works for indians. Once You have GC for five years you can apply for citizenship. That may not happen for another decade and i am not looking for citizenship.

If your child was born in the US, they are a citizen. Pursuant to the Fourteenth Amendment and the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) a person born within and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States automatically acquires US citizenship, known as jus soli.
@Susan K - yes any one who is born in the US automatically becomes a US citizen but the immigration status of parents would not change. A US citizen only sponsor someone after turning 18 and should be capable of financially capable for the sponsorship.

just moved to Canada from San Francisco. Worked on OPT for 3 years and on h1b for 8 months. Took a paycut but life on PR is peaceful. Nothing can beat Silicon Valley experience though and really happy and grateful for time in US.

With the way current things are with green card delays the day won’t be far when US born kids of H1 kids will grow up and start sponsoring their H1 parents for family based GC. Sounds crazy but with years of wait this may happen soon !
Kid has to be 21 (and willing to sign) but considering the average person works 40+ years, the time comes quick.

I miss India. USA is clean and nice but I miss hearing the crickets next to my house in the night. I miss the smell of sun soaked earth when it rains. I miss the flower lady coming to our house and my grandmother making hair garlands for me. I miss celebrating Pongal with family, New Years with crackers. I miss going to temples, riding an auto, going to Arul ice cream, seeing my friends, going to the beach. It is not worth it to go to the US. Try canada or the EU
India needs more urbanization, embrace new ideas & technologies.
@@prashant123singh Live in reality for once. Do you even know what 5 trillion dollars is? First make India a manufacturing hub for that you have to change labor laws. Guess is it possible? Not for at least ten years. Look how menial changes in life of farmers resulted in attack on Red Fort. First change mentality and only then change comes.
Hell doing a simple business in India is a complete headache. First come out of service based economy and move towards manufacturing. Its easy for politicians to say they will make India into double figure gdp but reality on land do defer.

I remember when I was applying for Universities( I ended up going to the UK ), and a good portion of my friends were keen on going to the US. I always thought they were brave lool because I had older cousins who had taken that route, and the horror stories they used to tell me about their and friends' experiences on the H-1B visa or even the process of trying to get it completely put me off. But of course, the UK route is challenging too, but the US makes it look like childsplay; then again, everyone should take a path that works best for them. With hindsight, I would advise people that if your looking for an easy path to PR, go the Canada, Australia, or New Zealand route, even places in the EU like Germany offer much more straightforward paths to PR
Many people wouldn't admit coming to the US was a mistake! They wouldn't admit that H-1B is legalized slavery. The US is OVER-RATED.
But in those countries job sources are not huge like U.S

What i do not understand is why so few employers are willing to hire overseas employee while theres a labor shortage going on.

Hello, quite enjoyed the video as it contains some of the information I seek, however I'd like to know more, currently an agent is helping me with H-1B visa, I just don't know if they're genuine and the risk involve in quitting my job back home for an H-1B in American that can't guarantee my stay in America with my family.
I think this video presents an excessively rosy picture of what an H1B visa is. In essence, for the vast majority of immigrants, the H1B Visa is simply a temporary work visa that enables you to live and work in the U.S. for a few years and then depart the country. If that's all you're looking for, then this is the visa with which you'll do that. But if your goal is to settle down permanently in the United States, the H1B is not a sure path to permanent residency or U.S. citizenship. Relatively few H1B holders go on to become permanent residents. In order to sponsor an immigrant for permanent residency, an employer must provide the government with evidence as to why an immigrant is needed for this job. With the exception of elite major corporations, most U.S. employers will hesitate to sponsor immigrants' permanent residency because of the high costs involved. Alternatively, in a select few specialized professions it is possible to self-sponsor for permanent residency, but that is also a very expensive process which a lot of middle-class and working-class people would find to be cost prohibitive. This video is overall very accurate in its information, but I just think it's important to set realistic expectations. The truth is that immigrating permanently to the U.S. beginning with an H1B will be very complicated and lengthy, and in many cases it won't ultimately be possible.

The people in Germany thoroughly vet candidates for work. Unlike the US, fraudulent resumes and credentials are not tolerated (even the highest manager is tech savvy enough to spot such candidates). Their system is Merit Based. If you are good, you will get in. If you are looking to "game" the system, you will not be successful.
Too me a intelligent guy earn money & lead Posh life anywhere. Getting H1 or any visa doesn't gaurantee you money or happy life. I have seen many of friends getting bankruptcy or living substandard life in foreign countries.
That's true. If in US you're getting paid more for the same work then your also paying more for the same services.
The problem in my case however is that I wanna become an aerospace engineer and in that area there are really limited options here. Going to US won't help either because you need a green card to work in aerospace companies. So I am fucked just because I was born in this country.
Then I thought fine we have a pretty good airforce and being a pilot is equally awesome so I hope that works out

H1B is valid for sound design and graphic design. As long as a firm is willing to sponsor you.
Highest demand STEM is recommended with acoustic or graphic design a very crowed space so is extremely competitive with low employment probability - so match your degree with highest demand to maximize employment probability just as you would at home...

The three main beneficiary groups are the immediate family members of US citizens (unlimited green cards/year), family-sponsored applicants (226,000 green cards/year), and employment-based workers whom companies sponsor via H-1B visas (140,000 green cards/year).Employment‐Based Green Card pending application hits 1.2 Million in FY2020.
To work for your new company, you and your new employer must submit a new H1B visa petition from the begening. However, you do not have to get selected in the H1B lottery.
You can start working for your new company immediately upon filing the petition; you don’t have to wait for the petition to be approved. But If an extension is not filed, then you will only be able to work for 240 days after the date that your H1B expires. If your petition is denied at any stage at the process, you lose work authorization as well.

Note - 21% is for H1B Temporary Work Visa = Non Immigrant Visa - so Employment Based Green Card = EB Visa requires an employer sponsoring you for a permanent job aproved by immigration - reducing probabilities for F1 to Green Card to less than 5% - a very selective 5%...
For those who might not know, anybody born in the US (unless parents are diplomats) is a citizen and thus won't have to leave.

@@krishnamanohar2299 Like others have said, it does not matter. If your child is born on US soil it automatically has US citizenship regardless of the parents immigration status. Does not matter whether you are on a H1B visa or whether you are a tourist visiting the US or you are an illegal immigrant that illegally crossed over into the US. If you are pregnant and give birth on US soil that Child is a US citizen. The only exception is if the Child is born to foreign diplomats. For example one of the kings of Thailand was born in the US but because his parents were foreign diplomats he did not receive US citizenship.

I was on H1B..... Let me tell you the truth..... Now I am immigrating to Cyprus. Some many H1B holders are working now in Cyprus,Malta and Qatar/Dubai. There is no future with H1B, I wasted my years.

@@balkiprasanna1984Most of my H1B friends who left USA are settling in Dubai,Qatar,Cyprus and Malta.. In USA there are visa restrictions and never ending waiting in H1B life. We think we will be ok but it never happens. Countries like Cyprus,Malta, Qatar(richest country) ,Dubai,Saudi etc has so much opportunities in technology but don't have enough people. Most of my friends who left USA after H1B settled in these countries. When my H1B period ended I was thinking where to go. I tried Canada but my friends there said not to come because of tax and difficulty in finding jobs and future problems when having kids. They told me about other H1B people who settled in Cyprus,Malta,Dubai,Qatar etc. So I contacted them along with my friends whose visa expired in USA. I got entry to Cyprus(so many ex H1B are working here),my other friends got good jobs in Dubai and Qatar and few in Malta. After that some of them got married and got settled. Life is less stressful and salary is good. I recommend these countries like all other ex H1B holders.

That's why I referred to countries in my other replies. If you are Super brilliant they will accept you anywhere but even that brings you uncertainties if your company is bad. Then you may have to switch companies and doing that is not that enjoyable. Its hard. Other countries don't have this many formalities. Thats my advise.

Dear, i applied for H1b visa and my petition is returned back to USCIS as per mail received from Consulate. After Law suit, my lawyer sent me the Affirmation Notice received from USCIS and as pet the notice, my case sent back to state department. This notice states that
"What the Official Notice Said
This is to advise you that we have reaffirmed our previous decision on the above application or petition which the Department of State had previously returned for review. We have forwarded the case back to the Department of State for action." I sent this notice to consulate by mail but no reply. I am confused whether should i wait for the mail from consulate or i need to take appointment again with Embassy/consulate.

What a stressful life to live in temporary visa for so long. It is better to stay in India and live a lavish life. Live a life as first citizen than as a second citizen. How can US be a dream country if there is no job security.

Hi, just for the record, it's not possible to be on an H-1B for 20 or 30 years as the maximum duration is 6 years. So the last scenario you mentioned couldn't exist.
I think one will get chance after spending one year outside US for second chance on H1b.

That's why it is rightly said that working in the US is not for everyone. It needs special kinds of fighters to survive. It's a different feeling when you make your life king size on your own. But in all honesty, not everyone has to choose that path. It's only if you can see yourself as a fighter who never gives up.

33% tax and even with 100k salary can’t save much as half of the expenses goes to rent, EMIs. Ex: On an average most of the h1b’s earn $5k per month. Which is around 4 Lakhs in India. But if that person rents/buys even a single bedroom apartment he need to pay around $1500-2500/month. People pay a loan for 30 years to own one house, usually car will be taken on Emi either it is Honda or Tesla. Emi is around 700-1000/month. Cabs charge minimum $8 for 1 mile ride also which 400 rupees. Over all saving is very less and no maid facility. A married person saves more less. If a sink gets repair, charge will be $300. With this type of expense imagine how carefully people need to spend and on top of it if a job is lost they have to leave the country after 60 days. One biriyani - $20 = 1600 rupees. You need better money management if you can't save up money on that sort of income. For example you likely can get by without a car (bus, carpool, etc) and if you truly need one, buy used.
@@stevenroshni1228 even without car or any sort of EMI we can’t save much even by being single. Because the expenses will be in that way. We need atleast 1500-2000 dollars for a single person per month even with sharing. With own experience people can understand this very well! Bus are not used that often as that facility is not available that often in many area, car pool id not available and basically as people have less contact with neighbors it is not easy to find car pools.

I am having my own private room in a shared apartment.. and paying just around 635 dollars a month ..... when you're in US you have to manage it well ..... in new york public transports are readily available and it doesn't cost much truly speaking. I got a 2 hours journey at just about 10 dollars. In US it's not just about biryani you can get Mexican, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, delicious Korean foods which you will never get in India your whole life. Getting a car is good but the cost of oil is still less as compared to India. There are also other options available if you want to save money not all can be said here and after all people will not judge you on what religion you follow or what politics you follow. Don't just try to convert money..

And right now it has become so costly in India that unless you have your own house and cook your own foods you cannot survive in India. If you suffer from any type of medical emergencies in India you have to be really careful. In US there is less pollution so people don't suffer much from diseases or sickness....!!! If it's all about money then you should move to Pakistan Because it's the cheapest place in the world..

@@aruwinsantherasegaren879 let the dollar fall down to 60 and watch .I have been in USA for past 7 years I didn't got my H1B picked for 5 years.I studied there worked in an MNC joined CPT etc etc. Life is good in USA better infrastructure and well organized but let me tell you I came back to India and now getting paid 20 lakhs for annuum .When the price of dollar falls there is no difference if you are in India or USA
