I met up with my friend and fellow TH-camr Petrol Ped, he has been running the new Mini Clubman JCW for the past couple of months. In this video I compare the Clubman JCW to my BMW M135i long termer.

Glad it’s not just me who saw it was that awful JCW dark green with red stripes when on the field yet they’re interspersing the in-car shots with the white one zipping along the road. I mean.... Why? Is it just laziness?

Had the JCW clubman (before the power upgrade) - changed for an m140i, would keep the m140, but if I had to choose between the new m135 and new JCW clubman, it would 100% be the clubman.
The barn doors with the foot motion or key release is awesome 😎

Just kidding...Absolutely love my JCW Clubman, awesome and well sorted car.
TBH you need to have a drive of this car, I had a JCW Hatch for 3 years from new, changed it for one of these and its bloody fast, comfortable and I just love it to bits.
I specified the adaptive dampers, comfy ride in normal mode and very good in sports mode. I went for the all leather seats though which are really nice.
Monty Zumazoom I’ve had my new jcw clubman for 2 months now and love it, should I have ticked the adaptive suspension box, genuinely?
Jon Well I decided to spec in on my last car (JCW Hatch) bought new in 2016. It was pretty firm in sports mode but reasonable in mid mode which made it more comfortable for driving on poor road surfaces. With the JCW Clubman, I went for it again as it just gives you a bit of choice on whether you want a softer or firmer ride. The Clubman is a much more refined ride especially in mid mode when the dampers are on the softer setting. If you want to press on , the sports mode seems to ride better than my last car, with the dampers firmer but the ride is not as choppy as my last hatch. The ride is excellent on the Clubman. I put it down to the longer wheelbase and the fact that Mini has done some good work on upgrading the suspension and chassis on this car.
The only Clubman I drove to compare it with was a Cooper S version loan car. The ride was ok until you started pushing it as there was a fair bit of wallowing around bends. I think this new Clubman is ace and I think for me the variable dampers was a good choice.
Monty Zumazoom I agree, my clubman feels awesome to drive, and is a massive step up from the one before which I also owned. I’ll be looking to swap to the new X3, most likely when the 3 years is up. Thank you for replying, and enjoy your car.

I agree with you both on that. Why buy budget tyres. You should always get the best tyres
This is only applicable to medium to high performance car's in my opinion. Medium range tyres are good enough in most situations.

I would have the MINI. The F5x era MINI has never been a pretty car, it’s dimensions are are all out of whack. But having said that, it’s still a better looking car over the new 1. I’m not against a 4 cylinder BMW, some of them have been legendary (318iS, e30 m3 etc), but I am when it looks like a Korean hatchback.
I had a mini one 7 or 8 years ago. Was like a go cart and amazing fun even though it wasnt very fast. I've had jaguars and bmws since and now I'm about to get this clubman because nothings been as fun as that mini one.

I've owned M3's , Rs's etc etc and as you said I challenge anyone to drive one then say it wasnt fun. I got the bug and bought a R60 JCW all4 and have loved every minute of it. It's not the quickest car but its alot of fun. The only issues I've had with Mini is aftersales and Reliability. Aftersales isn't great and the reliability is shocking. They cost alot to maintain for sure but I think worth it.
same goes here ! owning E92 M3 but my r60 cooper S is alot more fun . feels like a go cart and solid 4 wheels . Especially with the sport mode On

I heard the notorious MINI giggle 😂 the most fun car I’ve ever driven. I think my Countryman must be bigger in the back than the Clubman. I had a 6’3 person in back without an issue. Thanks for the content!
Hey Joe! I bought myself the M135i, it’s coming in March and I can’t wait! Had a 24h test drive and absolutely loved it, especially coming from a Polo GTI it’s a completely different car. What tyres would you recommend? Pilot Sport 4 or 4 S?

The pull off delay is annoying. I think it holds gears the goes neutral when you're approaching a stop. It's fine - glad it holds gears.
Wow so a clubman is smaller in the rear than a GTI ??? And yea that Clubman sounds great! stock I’m 53 and would leave it alone no mods needed

I had a test drive in the new M135i a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was rubbish altogether compared to my M140i horrible 4WD system not smooth at all or balanced not a fan of the new cabin bring back the dials and them heater controls are stupid and it’s now way overpriced
I've just been given a jcw 5d as a courtesy car. When you drive the car it sells itself. When I go and pick my own car up I'm going straight to the mini dealership to what's on offer.
Just a suggestion, stop saying "Welcome to another video", Archie Hamilton says the exact same. Unless it's an in joke, its a bit lame n your game is a lot stronger than Hamiltons click bait car flipping stuff.

I’d choose the Mini Clubman….and did… because of the style and it’s more fun to drive. I am not anti BMW …. My 2nd car is an X5 but the mileage on my Mini is double the X5 even though they were purchased at the same time. Why? Because the Clubman is so much more exciting to drive and easier to maneuver in the city.

Can't wait to someday get a Mini Clubman JCW
Something you mentioned on Peds video, the once in a lifetime thing. The back catalogue reads e87 130i, the e82 135i, then f20 m135i/m140i and now the f40 m135i. Every single one previously has been 6cyl rwd, none perfect obviously and emissions regs etc but having owned the e82 135i, the engine was a huge draw for me and I suspect most buyers of the faster versions. Porsche have found a way to put the 6cyl back in the Cayman/Boxster, come on BMW!

Interested in how low you can sit in the mini, that’s one of the problems with FWD transverse engined platforms like both of these, I hate riding up like a CUV. Also, anyone know if you can get a manual?
I would definitely take the mini over the new 1er, at least it’s traditionally a transverse platform unlike that other traitorous abomination.
I'm 6ft 9" tall and I can fit in and drive my wife's mini with no issues. No one is getting behind me though the drivers seat is against the back seat and there is 1-2" head room.
Which one of these two or the Cupra st r would you buy with your own money?

Check out the pound to euro exchange rate history and you will find from the out vote result in june 2016 the pound fell and has traded consistantly 15/20% lower since. Manufacturers cannot absorb all this so has to be passed on to the customer.
The pound has been steadily falling for decades. It's actually at the same value now as it was in 2010.

So, the M135i is just as quick, has more room inside, is more practical, and has a much higher level of quality for the interior, yet is only a grand more expansive, means it's a shit car ? You're not very good at this are you.....
MINI is made by BMW why would you be surprised? The JCW is top quality for any mid range price brand.
tony152 so by your logic if the 135 is shit this makes the mini rubbish as the cars are very similar. I have reviewed the 135 and a modified clubman (makes it the same performance ) and enjoyed both. I know it seems difficult to imagine a mini being better than a BMW, a Skoda as good as a VW. I would suggest driving both if you have not done
Why do you think they have brought out the new M135i with less power than the Previous M140i? Do you think BMW have done this to save space for say a M145i with 380 hp? But then wouldnt that mess with the M2?
Because it's only a litre engine and they haven't managed to get 340bhp out of it yet... I've heard the M140E will be next

Have you ever driven a mini? I own a mini one d chiptuned. They drive like karts, it's the most fun car i've driven yet. My parents Mercedes CLA (petrol) is nowhere as fun as the mini...
