Iwata was one of the greatest members of the gaming industry. He was so humble yet so talented, the man was just a genius, always respectful and passionate. His work is incredibly inspirational and fuels my passion for gaming still to this day, to know that even being in a hospital bed did not stop him from working until his death. My favourite childhood games all owe Iwata for their existence and it's a true shame he is no longer with us.
Iwata-San, we do understand :'( and we miss you greatly

Geez louise, with both this and the Pokemon G2 video, I'm starting to think Satoru Iwata is just the master of decyphering code.
I also like how in your stories the way everything is written makes him sound like a cowboy from an old western flick, that rides into town, saves the day single handedly and asks for not even a thank you, before riding into the sunset.

  • @jlbeeen

I did a tribute to Iwata playing a song from Mother 3 on the ocarina while cosplaying as Kumatora. I did redo my cosplay later using similar advice as with this scenario. I'm glad these games were released as it is my favourite game trilogy!

  • @allseason08

I probably wouldn't known by my peers as an Earthbound obsessed weirdo (at least that's what they all say) had Iwata not helped Itoi and his team. Personally, I take pride in being the only person at my school who's even looked at the game as well as the rest of the series as some people actually enjoy me for this rare trait (Sean, Tony, if your reading this, I'm specifically talking to you), though I think I know a certain few who despise me for this just because I like Earthbound and not their favorite series so they think I'm a sin. Earthbound is a game that touched my heart with its great tweaks to the RPG formula, a story that was hilarious and a little relatable (after all, Ness and I are the same age), and just so much personality compared to other games that tend to bore me with its dialogue and it pains me to see I'm the only one at my school who's played this masterpiece. Thank you for bringing this video upon me and letting me see again how an amazing man saved what became an amazing game. Iwata, I salute you.

oh dear, 3 years later i can relate. i am probably the only one in my grade or even school who has played earthbound. i find it quite sad, but at least kids aren’t bragging about stuff in their game or doing stupid things with the game. i sound like i am old and i haven’t even reached high school.

    • @vanilla_cloud9258
      @vanilla_cloud9258 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ARCHIVED9610 yeah, i definitely understand. in my case, most kids at my school look down on retro games, finding the fact that i enjoy them laughable. but i guess they'll never understand what gems that they're missing out on. earthbound is one of a kind, a truly unique game - there's no other like it. i'm honestly glad that i discovered it so many years after release, along with many other games from previous generations. they really do have their own appeal, and finding out the backstories of how these masterpieces came to be is definitely fascinating.

To this day in 2017, the Mother series still stands as one unlike any ever seen. This series has one of the greatest fanbases I have ever witnessed. It's all centered around a truly magical game, with the reason people love it being very difficult to put into words. It's very relieving to know that Saturo Iwata's work has not gone to waste, and we still feel the profound effects of his genius. Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata.

Great videos you two, I love learning how these games were made and the contributions people gave.
Since you've been doing videos about Saturu Iwata, you should do one about Super Smash Bros Melee, how Iwata helped debug it to make it release at launch. Its an interesting story, as Iwata put it:
"That was the last time that I worked as an engineer ‘in the field’. I was right there, sitting by programmers, in the trenches, reading code together, finding the bugs, and fixing them together."
Anyways can't wait to see the snes videos!

As someone who considers Earthbound to be one of his favorite video games to this day, I fully approve of this episode :P
I relate a lot to Itoi. Part of why I decided I wanted to make video games was because I was to create an interactive, immersive world. Creating stories for other mediums is fun, but nothing else has worked to create exactly the sort of thing I've felt like I've wanted to make. Much like him, I originally planned to work with a friend who has the programming skills needed....but as it turned out, I don't think his skills extend into video game development, and I'm finding I do better just developing the thing myself, anyway (probably because, also much like Itoi, I'm not great at team management....or thorough planning, for that matter).
I can't wait to see the episode about itoi himself. It would be nice to get more insight into the story of how he created the Mother/Earthbound series. Knowing he's not even a game developer and still was able to get the chance to create games is part of what inspired me to give game development a shot. Well, that, and when I saw how he described what he had wanted to create with Earthbound, I realized he was describing EXACTLY what I was itching to create :P

Dude don't give up. Game Dev is hard but you will not be able to walk away if its your passion.
I'm finishing my first commercial game alone, working 3 days with no rest for the last year. I worked for 6 years to get the money for this process. I'm also a bipolar by the way.
Just a tip. Follow people like Iwata, Team Silent, Ron Gilbert, Lorne Lanning, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Brenda Romero, John Romero, and a lot of more people that can show you the real way. There is a lot of people that teach game design but never made a game and they will make you go in circles.
Just follow your passion, you have only one life to live!

    All of the sudden,
Some guy rushed into the room!
    It was Satoru Iwata!
Satoru Iwata fixed the programming errors of EarthBound!
I did it and they're gone that was so easy to fix!
    That was quick thinking!

Video Game Story Time It's cool, guys. You still make great stuff, even for overthinking young adults who just started college and stayed awake, being hard on themselves, questioning their existence and examining their darkest and heartbroken feelings.

Hi there! Love your work, my fave is the majoras mask video :)
I was wondering what you use to get images to fade in like that for your videos? Im an illustrator doing a kickstarter video for someone and need to do that effect but dont know how... >.< Thank you!

Hey there! We use a pretty standard video editing software, any program should have the fade in/out feature listed under transitions. Some programs if you overlap two images or video clips on the timeline it'll automatically fade from one to the other. Hope that helps! Good luck with your Kickstarter!
